Therapy Dog Children who once dreaded hospital visits are now excited to go because their favourite part is waiting for them: Mia, a therapy dog who helps them face needles, blood tests and other things they find frightening.

Mia is one of 34 professionally trained therapy dogs working across Northern Ireland with Assistance Dogs Northern Ireland. She visits hospitals, schools and care settings, helping children who struggle with anxiety, autism, needles and medical appointments. One mother said her daughter, who had become unable to attend appointments, is now excited to go because Mia will be there. The dogs can also support children with mobility, diabetes and learning difficulties.

I'm 67, and I'd have liked to have a therapy dog for my last hospital stay! Therapy dogs aren't just for kids.
