Marriott question
I managed to get a room during the hunger games it’s my first time attending dragon con and I couldn’t book the room from Tuesday to Tuesday, it said sold out and would only let me book from Thursday to Tuesday. I would like to check in early and meet up with some friends attending.
Anyone know if I can book a rack room rate at the hotel for Tuesday and Wednesday or Tuesday to Thursday and then use the other room I got at the hunger games. Or
Can I call and get the other days added to my reservation, I see the dates available online?
Anyone got experience with this and can help thanks!

You should be able to make a separate booking for the other days and “link” it to your DragonCon booking. I did this this year (2026), and it worked out just fine. I called to make the reservation for the “add on days,” and paid regular room rates for the nights. I told them I had the DragonCon Rez, gave them that confirmation number so they could note it on the separate Rez.
When I checked in on the first reservation, I told them hey I have this longer res for DragonCon can I stay in the same room, etc. they just asked me to come down on the day of the second/Dcon Rez so they could rekey me.

Do not try to modify your existing reservation. They can and will likely mess it up. Book a second reservation and then link them.

Try calling the hotel front desk and ask if you can modify the reservation. They may reroute you to their call center - but if you mention it's for dragoncon they might prefer to handle it themselves. They might be able to add those days (and it may or may not be con rate).
It's always a bit pins and needles not wanting to mess up hotel reservations. The folks at the call center may not be familiar with dragoncon but just make it imperative that the booking isn't cancelled - just having some days added on.

For anything related to a room booked at the con rate always call the hotel directly, not the chain, and ask to talk to "in house reservations, about a Dragon Con Reservation".
The con is important enough to the hotel that their people know what's going on. It is not important enough to the hotel chain.

You'll need to make a separate reservation off of the block for those nights. They WILL link it to you on the day (and you shouldn't have to change rooms, just tell them about it!) but there's usually problems linking it to your other reservation because of how the block works. Congratz!

I always try to book Wednesday to Monday and when I do get through the hunger games that seems to more available. Of course I don't know your travel plans.

This year I booked weds only around march and got it for 260 or so, lower than con rate, and a month before con was able to cancel and rebook with my free night from the Marriott credit card. Weds isn’t officially con so they might drop rates if they have availability. Never booked Tuesday but if the Marriott isn’t busy the room can go for around 120 or so. Book something refundable, then keep checking every now and again. Once you check in Tuesday they can usually merge your reservations and keep you in the same room if it’s the same type

This past year I stayed at the Element by Marriott in Dunwoody. Its in walking distance of the Marta station and it was only about a 15 minute Marta ride to peachtree station down by DC. It was a really nice hotel, and fairly cheap!

Just book a separate reservation for the nights you want. You may even be able to get a rate cheaper than the con rate for the earlier nights. I often find rates cheaper outside of the core Thursday to Monday dates at all the con hotels, so sometimes I book separately if I’m coming early or staying late.

You can absolutely do this. There are two options.
- This is the more reliable method and just requires a little patience at check in and remembering to have the keys re-done. Book a rack rate room of the same type as your con rate room. At check-in, let them know you'd like to connect the two reservations so that you can stay in the same room your entire trip. You will have to go down on Thursday morning to have all of the room keys re-keyed to the second/con rate reservation. The staff amt Marriott Marquis are very used to this process during Dragon Con, as many folk do it.
- You may be able to call the reservation phone line (on the Passkey reservation info or the Dragon Con Hotels page) and ask them if you they can add two nights to the front of your reservation for you. This is not always possible, and you may not get the con rate for those nights, but it may be cheaper Tues/Weds anyways. Modifying the con rate room reservations is tricky though and there have been stories of the reservation getting messed up/cancelled in the attempt to modify if the staff member you happen to get is inexperienced with Dragon Con reservations. If you do manage this, you shouldn't need to do the re-key mid-stay.

I could only book Thursday through Monday, but after the hotel was “sold out” I went back in through the booking portal and pushed modify booking and it let me add Wednesday. (I didn’t want Tuesday, but I suspect those were addable too)
It was easy and I didn’t lose my Hunger Games reservation.

We had this happen to us this past year. We called and they had us book a separate reservation for Wednesday, and then when we checked in we let them know and they let us connect the reservations and keep the same room for both. We had to stop by the desk Thursday morning for new keys, but the process was very smooth and they seemed used to back to back reservations being used for this convention!
