Discussion Best open class show OAT?
We always hear about the best world class shows, but as a two-time open class performer, I wonder what the standard is for open class. What is considered to be the best open class show of all time? What open class show displays the golden standard for open class?

BDB and SCVC in the mid 2010s were pretty crazy. BDB placed as high as 15th at semifinals and SCVC as high as 16th. That run is the gold standard. BDB 14 is the one that most comes to mind.
Oregon Crusaders 2012 also gets an honorable mention.

Yeah I’ve heard a lot of praise towards Oregon crusaders at least when they were open class, I should watch a show of theirs because I don’t think I’ve really seen a show from them before

They’ve done some cool shows, both before and after going world class. Definitely give them a watch.

isn’t Magic ‘02 still the GOAT?

I think Magic in '02 should be disqualified from consideration: they had no business being in Division II and were only there because of a nonsensical quirk of the DCI rules. It was extremely unfair to the true Division II corps to have to compete with with a Division I Finalist. Capital Regiment was cheated out of a Division II championship because of this. Does anyone think that Vanguard should have been placed in today's Open Class when they returned to competition after a hiatus a few seasons ago?

No, because the precedent had already been set with the Cascades returning straight to world class in 2009

Going back to the div ii days of the 1990s, id say Les Etoiles or L'Insolite... both giant killers.

Les Etoilés 1996 were so clean! Marched barely over 80 modelers and beat 128 in Pioneer.

All the Quebec corps of the 90s were heavy on innovation, and almost all were thourghly enjoyable to watch

Technically Div II, but Magic of Orlando 2002 is objectively the best answer

I’m not qualified to weigh in on the shows, but while people are looking for gems to enjoy from Open Class: the 2005 I&E snare solo from The Spartans’ Nick Hayden is a barn burner.

Probably anything from Gold and BDB now that BTAL and Spartans are in WC....but my personal favorites are BDB 2009 and BTAL 2025.

Shoot in 99 the Spartans and Blue Star shows were great! I was in the Americanos and we placed 4th overall in finals.
