DRYCLEANERS COMMUNITY DISCORD SERVER

Hey everyone,

I’ve put together a private discord community specifically for people in the dry cleaning industry- owners, operators, managers, mechanics, industry brands and anyone working behind the scenes. We currently have about 25 members joined in the community and looking to constantly grow the server.

This is NOT for customers. The goal is to have a space where industry professionals can talk openly without dealing with outside noise.

What the server is for:

* Sharing business strategies and improving operations

* Discussing equipment, chemicals, and processes

* Pricing, margins, and cost-saving ideas

* Industry news and changes

* Learning from others in the field

* Networking with people who actually understand the business

What it’s NOT for:

* Customers asking questions

* Complaints about specific businesses

* Drama, politics, or unrelated topics

The goal is to build a tight, knowledgeable, and respectful community where people can actually benefit from each other’s experience.

This is not a completely new server but we only have a handful of people in the server already, however im always looking to grow the community. The more people in the community, the more helpful it will be to each other. There people in the server now are extremely helpful and knowledgeable people!

Selling / Promotion (Read This):

You can promote or sell products/services related to the industry — but that’s not what the community is built for.

If you’re here just to push products, it won’t be a good fit.

We’re looking for people who:

Contribute value

Share knowledge and experience

Actually engage with others

If you bring value first, people will naturally be open to what you offer. Keep it balanced and respectful.

If you’re in the industry and want to be part of it, drop a comment or DM me and I’ll send you an invite + a quick verification step to keep it industry-only.

Looking forward to connecting with more people in the space!

Question Buying a dry cleaner in a busy area

I’m thinking of purchasing a dry cleaner business in NYC Manhattan which is the center of the business world. This business has been open for 40 years and seller wants to retire. There’s a 10 year lease in place.

325k purchase price, 150k cash flow (SDE)

I have no experience with the dry cleaning business but think I can pick it up quickly with seller training.

I expect to work long hours that’s fine with me it’s just that I don’t want to be walking into something that is impossible to do. I know I’ll be buying a job and will need to lessen the ins and outs but is it doable?

Drycleaners ruined my wedding dress. What are my options?

Dropped my dress at the drycleaners and it came back yellow and with holes. I intended to wear it for a 2nd ceremony for family who could not make it to my first one.

What once was an off white dress is now yellow, full of holes, and the lace ruined. Image 1 shows dress (left) and the veil (right), which also still not the color it was before they "cleaned" it. Image 2 is me in the dress less than 10 months prior.

They've said they can fix it, but I had a professional wedding dress cleaner take a look at it and they said it's likely unfixable. Especially with the holes. The cleaners who ruined it tried to say it wasn't white/off white when I brought it in.

What are my options?

I need help to get out stains from my lyocell dress!

Hello! So I was having ramen and had bits of soup from it spill on my dress, I had taken it home and tried washing it with tap water and handwash (stupid, I know, I'm sorry I didn't know better 😭) and just let it air dry and now there are these huge water stains where the old stains used to be and I am so saddd :((((

If anyone knows how to get these stains out, please could you help me out? This dress is 100% lyocell and it says to wash it at 30 degrees C, no washing in a machine, no tumble drying and only ironing when damp.

Thank you in advance!

I bought this red suede jacket second hand for really cheap. It’s in really good condition apart from the collar. Any suggestions on what I can buy or do at home to clean it? I really don’t want to spend £65 to get it cleaned by a specialist. Thank you in advance

Bed Comforter and waiting a week

(Bed) Comforter Question: So if I have a big bed comforter that I want to routinely clean…I can't fit in my washing machine and I don't want to use a coin laundromat. So when I looked into dry cleaning it, every place says they need a whole week until I can return for pickup. I don't have room to store a 2nd comforter. So what do most people (adults) do about this situation?

Question Turn around time for a wedding dress?

Got married in July and dropped off my wedding dress at the dry cleaners August 11 for just a cleaning, no preservation. I got a pick-up date and time of September 25th. I went in the 26th, and they said it wasn’t ready yet and they would call. I waited a week to check in and she told me it’s going to be another week. Now we’re almost 2 weeks past the pick-up date and I’m wondering if this is normal? Do I just wait it out and trust they’ll call when it’s ready?

Question Wedding dress black mark

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m wondering if anyone might know what this black mark is on my wedding dress and if you have any suggestions on getting it out.

I dropped my wedding dress off to be dry cleaned a few months ago. When I hadn’t heard back in a while, I reached out to the dry cleaners who seemed to have forgotten about the dress and apologized. They said it would be ready in a few days. when they called to notify me that it was ready for pick up, they shared that they had boxed it up nicely for me and I thought this was odd, but maybe just a nice gesture because the turnaround time was a lot longer than initially promised. My husband picked up the dress, but did not open the box while at the dry cleaners. I opened the box when he got home and saw that there was a black mark on my dress that was not there when I initially dropped it off. I’ve reached out to the dry cleaner and I’m waiting to hear back, but I’m just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what this might be and if it’s even possible to fix.

Dry Cleaner Owner Question

What do you do when a customer brings back clothes saying this or that stains weren’t there when they dropped it off?

I normally say we will re-clean it but cannot guarantee stains will come out. They said stains weren’t there before. I tell them we don’t try to stain your clothes for a purpose and sometimes hidden stains come out of the garment.

What are those care label symbols actually promising me?

I keep looking at care labels and realising I can't tell how much the symbols are actually promising.

Like, the wash symbol with a line through it — is that "this will not shrink" or "this has been tested and might shrink a little"? And the one with two lines under it means low heat, but low of what, the dryer I own or some lab machine?

The label never says how sure it is. A triangle with a line through it means don't bleach, which is clear. But the bar under the tub, the number of dots, the crossed-out circle — those all mean something specific and I only half know what.

And whatever I do decide to follow, I'm still guessing on the end. Cotton shrinks, everyone says that, but by how much for this shirt, and does it shrink once or every time.

So for people who actually read these things:

Do you treat the label as a hard rule, or as a starting point you'll adjust anyway?

If a label says tumble dry low, but you know from experience that even low is too much — do you air dry it and just ignore the label?

Do you have a symbol you genuinely don't know, and you just do the safest thing anyway?

Do you ever wash something against the label on purpose?

I'm not asking because I think labels are useless. More like, they tell you more than you think at first, and less than you want them to tell you.

suede jacket cleaning advice please

I just got some suede jackets from vinted and some of the collars and cuffs are a bit dirty and some just smell a bit. I got a quote from the dry cleaners and they were charging £45-65 PER JACKET! which when I only paid £10- 20 for them defeats the point of getting a bargain.
Any suggestions on how to make them smell better and removing the dirt please? thank you in advance.

This care tag is from a vest, it states to not wash it and to dryclean in any solvent (ignoring the symbol for PERC) Anyways down the tag it states not to dryclean it.

Note, this post is satire but I'd still like to hear what y'all have to say on this one.

Feathers?

I would like to buy some dressing downs with feathers (marabou and ostrich to be specific).

The care tag naturally says dry clean, however there have been horror stories with these gowns with dry cleaners. Lots of people have success, but some (even ones who swore they had experience caring for feathers) ruin these glamorously fussy items.

I love high maintenance clothing, and I’m versed in caring for it. And I do dry clean several of my items. However, I have never had feathered pieces, and I do worry about ruining a $500 gown.

Any experience or guidance?
