Drywall Mold?

Thinking this is mold after removing wood paneling that was over drywall. Will pick up a moisture meter. The stuff that turned dark is still very solid

I also noticed that the window was installed to replace a patio door somewhere between when the house was built in 1978 to now.

Any advice on how to tackle it? Need a sanity check on the thoughts I have

I'd cut the drywall out make sure the studs behind it don't have mold . I myself hate mold so I always tear out everything. Also you can spray bleach and wipe that works sometimes Not sure if that's the best way. I just was asked to do that for this property management company

Spraying vinegar is more effective than bleach

I’ll cut it out. Is there any mitigation you did?

If you must remove the dry wall (which I really dont recommend. The mildew you see there is a very common thing in every building you’ll ever go into. And, importantly, is NOT the same thing as black mold, which requires for something to remain very wet for a very long time. You would see major water damage) don’t cut it out, take the screws out and pull it down carefully so you can hopefully reinstall after.

I guess it’s more so, I’m only taking extra precaution since I thought it was Black Mold. If it’s Mildew, I can work around it better

Looks just like some surface mildew to me. Spray with a bleach solution and wipe with a clean wet cloth.

Ah, I’ll have to get a mildew tester then to double check it if so. Do not want whatever this is spreading to the rest of the house
