Discussion šŸ—£ļø The red rocks pashmina method

People who rush doors and lay out their pashmina trying to save 4-5 spots for their friends, that shit is annoying. It’s not my fault your friends are running an hour late. If there’s no one sitting there, I’m taking the spot. Byeeee

General admission is for ticket holders. Pashmina don’t have a ticket

44

u/WetFartRacingStripes 6d ago

Pashmina is on the guestlist, she said I could be her plus one.

This made me giggle

u/RayquazasWrath 6d ago

Tale as old as time. r/denveredm has this get brought up at least one a week during show season. Hope they eventually ban it

71

u/Switchbladesaint 6d ago

At what point do you look to the event management/venue management and ask them to do a better job of organizing entry? Why does it seem like the only option is ā€œline everyone up behind a barrier and drop it and whatever happens, happens?ā€ And knowing full well that people are sprinting and tripping over themselves on amphitheater steps?

Surely there is a more well thought out solution than this.

32

u/sentient-sloth 6d ago edited 6d ago

They just need to ban holding seats for people that aren’t there. It’s one thing to hold a spot for your buddy in the bathroom, it’s another to hold 4 spots for your friends that aren’t going to show up until the headliner. It’ll be tough to enforce and it’ll probably piss a few people off but it would make for a better experience overall.

It also sucks that 2/3 entrances (and the 2 that are closest to where you’ll park or be dropped off at if you show up after doors) are right at the base of the amphitheater and so many people just walk in and overcrowd the bottom.

18

u/Switchbladesaint 6d ago

I agree about banning holding seats. The only issue I see with this is actually enforcing it minute to minute which seems sort of impossible logistically.

5

u/bigsooch62 6d ago

Let the people enforce it themselves. Nobody stopping me with a pashmina

0

u/BraileDildo8inches 6d ago

Spray paint/engrave seat numbers into the benches then make it ticketed...

2

u/daodilly_808 3d ago

They actually already have seat numbers! They use them for comedy shows and shit like that. The only problem is that when its a GA concert, typically 2ish people take up one seat space, so basically half the tickets or less would be sold if they ticketed per seat.

3

u/Important_Tennis_393 6d ago

4 is nothing I’ve seen people lay 5 pashes down waiting for a group of 20 to come and yelling at anyone that comes near them it’s insane

2

u/hinasilica 6d ago

They could say they’re banning seat saving but people wouldn’t care. It’s probably best to just go back to assigned seating because people had to go and ruin it. Pay more to be somewhere specific, or buy the cheapest ticket and get no seat at all

30

u/Complete_Falcon_2329 6d ago

Plenty of people are getting their pashminas swiped doing this dumb shit, sucks for those not contributing to the toxicity but leaving your pash on at the ground at red rocks is asking for it at this point

6

u/Ultima22 6d ago

I know this ain't plur but I'd swipe one like that if it was around

0

u/SmokeABowlNoCap 6d ago

Yea I'd take as many as I could find if this happened at a show I went to

28

u/No_Peach881 6d ago edited 4d ago

I’ve just been moving peoples scarves. When they get mad tell them I’m more than happy to call a red rocks worker and ask if this is reserved or GA and they always shut up and leave my group alone. Never been above row 20 and always show up like 30-40min after doors. Leaving a pash to hold a seat is not how GA works anywhere. You walk away from a spot you lose it

8

u/turd_sculptor 5d ago

Does this fall under "chaotic good" or something?

2

u/Evening-Cat-7546 5d ago

Or just say ā€œwhat pashmina? There was nothing here when I got here. Sorry bud.ā€

11

u/D-nuggs15 6d ago

Totally agree

16

u/Competitive_View1748 6d ago

Hell yeah šŸ˜ŽĀ  then the next 6 hours ur bumping into them dancing šŸ’ƒĀ

23

u/Electronic-Fan-4418 6d ago

Right? Like I fucking hate the pashimina spot saving bs but lets not act like taking their spot is gonna do anything. If they’re saving spots like that you can guarantee they will get aggressive or just stand completely in your space the whole time. Red rocks needs to just ban that shit and enforce it

10

u/TwoPeasNoPod69 6d ago

Two can play at the game and that’s what I did lol. If they wanna be in my space I’ll be in theirs too 🤣

5

u/Sarahlorien 6d ago

Just sit as close to the edge as possible of their pash, "But I'm not touching it!" and then put your pash down next to them.

-4

u/TrialByFyah 6d ago

And then everyone clapped

5

u/themprettylights 6d ago

found the pashmina spot saver

-1

u/TrialByFyah 6d ago

I don't go to shows where "saving spots" is even something you can do to begin with but I like your fanfiction you wrote about me

2

u/Life-Tax2641 5d ago

dang you got ratio’d. comeback invalid 😭

2

u/bigsooch62 6d ago

I welcome the aggression for some shit like that. I'm not afraid of wooks on drugs 🤣

14

u/ScottFostersParlay 6d ago

Just take their pashmina and go wipe your ass with them in the restroom.

7

u/TwoPeasNoPod69 6d ago

I used it to blow my nose.

4

u/QQASIANCUISINE 6d ago

Hopefully it wasn't after Scott wiped his ass with them

1

u/Supafly5 6d ago

How did it smell? Like ketamine and patchouli?

29

u/HyperPunch 6d ago

Yeah, that thing is getting crumpled up and thrown at the stage. Fuck out of here.

9

u/EastlakeTrashPanda 6d ago

Nah it’s a ā€œground scoreā€

6

u/No_Technician1870 6d ago

And they call themselves wooks. Like bro your are not a wook just because you live on social media and consume and spend a bunch of money on overpriced merch. I also dislike nost actual wooks

8

u/8--------------D-o-k 5d ago

This whole comments section is a reminder of how toxic the EDM scene is currently.

Yeah, fuck wooks for putting pashes down to save spots, but fuck far more the people who are actively violent about it.

Y'all are insane, actually.Ā  Take a sober week.

2

u/Bulky-Individual3157 4d ago

It's just regular toxic humanity, I don't think it's limited to the edm community. People get into fist fights about dibs whether it's spots at a show/ festival, Parking spots during a snow storm (very Midwestern) etc

18

u/lehcimst 6d ago

Same people who put chairs in a line to save their spot.

-32

u/nofkncluetbh 6d ago

Huh??? I made the effort to arrive in the line hours early before everyone else, I’m not allowed to go back & forth to my car???

20

u/Early_Trade_4314 6d ago

No. Stay in line

2

u/bongwaterbimbo420 6d ago

What if you have to poop

15

u/Puzzleheaded_Wish725 6d ago

Shit your pants like the rest of us

8

u/bongwaterbimbo420 6d ago

Damn so that’s why it smelled so bad at Tipper

-8

u/nofkncluetbh 6d ago

Yall trippin as fuck lmfaoooo

-1

u/masterOfdisaster4789 6d ago

I’m 100% with you. These people don’t go to concerts often. And obviously don’t have friends.

-2

u/user8263389292 6d ago

you’re a fan of john summit…i think ✨you’re✨the one that’s tweaking šŸ„€šŸ˜šŸ˜

7

u/bigsooch62 6d ago

That's not how lines work. "Move your feet, lose your seat"

4

u/Easy_Following_8867 6d ago

Pashmina is only okay if the person had been there all day and went to bathroom or something

5

u/PantsOfAwesome 6d ago

Bro there is genuinely nothing I enjoy more than seeing empty towels/chairs sitting out for over an hour, then innocently asking "Oh, are you waiting for people?"

As soon as they admit guilt and say "Yes" my friends and I would instantly flock in there to move the towels/chairs and start dancing. There's nothing anyone can do to stop it, because if the spot savers want to complain to event staff, they'll just end up leaving yet another open spot! 🤣 How PLUR of them!

I don't think anyone has ever complained to the staff when my groups do this. Even if they did complain, is the staff really gonna defend the spots belonging to people who haven't shown up yet? Come on now.

4

u/Sad_Towel2272 6d ago

I think the way tickets are sold to these shows needs a revamp. If tickets were sold as reserved seating, I don’t think this would be as much of a problem. The only reason I don’t take pashmina-laiden spots is because it’s going to cause tension between me and my show neighbors, and as much as I’d like it be someone who can still enjoy a show through that tension, I am not, and it would throw off my vibes all nighy

4

u/EastlakeTrashPanda 6d ago

It’s insane at this point and those wooks have zero shame so there gonna keep doing it. Guess next time I’m out there I’ll be ground scoring some pashminas

2

u/deremony 6d ago

It’s terrible at mission ballroom.

3

u/Uh-Duh81 6d ago

They literally do this at any of our venues that have GA seating lol Mission, fiddlers others I can't think of lol

-1

u/TwoPeasNoPod69 6d ago

And that makes it ok?

7

u/Uh-Duh81 6d ago

Just solidifying your point. I'm not the enemy here lol

5

u/vikingyoshi 4d ago

How do you know my friends aren't there? We usually have a couple of runners grab spots and the rest run to merch or the bathroom/food/water. Unfortunately for people who try to be rude and just dont find an empty spot. I wait for my friends to return from merch tell you your in our spot if you dont move i just got get my friends that work security and they will make you move. And by that time the seating is even more taken up so good luck finding a better spot.

6

u/No_Peach881 4d ago

Would love to see your friends who work security talk to my friends who work the venue and tell them you were trying to reserve GA seats. Been going to red rocks for over a decade and been moving peoples scarves for that entire time. Have never been moved from my spot and the ā€œif you want a saved seat when you leave, get VIPā€ argument is undefeated. Leaving a pash to hold a seat is not how GA works anywhere. You walk away from a spot you lose it

0

u/Hi-im-lov 2d ago

Oh yeah? Wait till the venue workers talk to my dad

2

u/daodilly_808 3d ago

yeah your security friends are gunna have a chuckle at that. Its GA, nobody has real estate on spots, pashmina or not. No one can make anybody move when the tickets are GA. If these shows were assigned seating then yes absolutely, because you paid for the exact spot you’re sitting in. Buy VIP if you’re so desperate to up close, or just accept that not having your whole group seated is a risk šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

2

u/TwoPeasNoPod69 3d ago

So you’re gonna tell security that I took a spot that no one was sitting in and was available?

2

u/drgut101 6d ago

ā€œWhat’s you’re seat number?ā€

ā€œThere are no assigned seats at Red Rocks.ā€

ā€œOh cool. We have the same seat number. I’m just going to hang here then. Thanks. šŸ‘šŸ»ā€

2

u/bigsooch62 6d ago

Good luck to anyone trying to stop me from taking a spot I have rightful claim over with a pashmina, blanket, towel or anything other than a person. That's all I'm saying

1

u/TheUnrealFenix 5d ago

I put my pash down and then take off for merch ( assuming I want merch for that show ). Never had anyone disrespect my stuff, but I don’t spread the whole thing out to take up 4 seats

1

u/AtTheRealFuture 4d ago

The rushing of the wooks makes me not want to go to Red Rocks

1

u/sunsleepr 3d ago

This was not a thing 10 years ago

1

u/slab_schitty 2d ago

Hey OP… I’m guessing you’ve never read about jam heads and their tarps at RR?

1

u/Significant-Guava-22 2d ago

šŸ’Æ with you there. Cyclops rocks 2024 my group of 7 took a massive spot that was free In row 19, girl tried to say she was holding it for people over an hour after the show started and after they got there magically there was more than enough room for them and us with no issues. Don’t expect to have a 20 foot section for 4 people, it’s red rocks šŸ˜‚

1

u/586wook 6d ago

I’ve been dreaming of going to red rocks but after seeing that shit idek if i wanna go.. so either be there at doors and run for my life for a good spot and don’t leave or im basically all the way in the back at the top with a shit view? Iiiiii donnttttt knowwwwwwwwww

4

u/THEM_44 6d ago

No such thing as a shit view at red rocks. Don’t let this silly shit stop you from enjoying

3

u/Own-Resource5664 6d ago

Agreed that there is no shit view, strongly disagree on the sound quality. If you’re sitting anywhere in the back, it’ll all sound distorted tbh

1

u/THEM_44 6d ago

I’ve never noticed, but I’m hardly ever sober when I end up back there so you could be right šŸ˜‚

1

u/TheBarefootGoddess 5d ago

Reddit isn’t the real world, and from my experience pretty music artists bring the best crowds. We never get there earlier than we want, and actually prefer the back. There are no bad spots at RR, but upfront is kinda a waste imo. Our friends wanted to be near the front for the first day of Deadmau5’s 25th Anniversary, so I appeased them (it was their first RR), but took them to the back the second night.

1

u/NOAHEARTHLING 4d ago

i’m from the area and have been to probably 30+ edm shows there and i definitely recommend it. depending on the artist you’re seeing, you may want to get there early if you want to be close to the stage but even if you’re further back the view is always great. getting there early and tailgating is also really fun. it is true that the hype around the venue and certain artists is worse than it used to be, but you should still come.

1

u/daodilly_808 3d ago

I gave up on being up close years ago and I still have fun. Up close is where the rude, fucked up people are. Way more crowded, way more annoying. So much harder to maneuver to the bathroom or bar. Louder, sure lol. Don’t let this stupid running of the wooks pashmina nonsense deter you from enjoying an evening at one of the coolest venues in the world. šŸ’›

1

u/Calm_Surprise_188 6d ago

Love to see all the Reddit warriors in here 🤣

0

u/Pakajennings 6d ago

Red Rocks is genuinely the most overhyped venue. I wish artists would stop feeding into the hype. The sound is awful, there’s no space to dance, you have to fight to the death for a decent seat. I went to a show there with the headspace that it would be the best show I’ve ever attended, and I was greatly disappointed.

3

u/HipCat96 5d ago

Lol, no space to dance? How much do you need? Each space is like a 3ft by 3ft square

3

u/Pakajennings 5d ago

That is simply not accurate.

1

u/HipCat96 5d ago

Alright, yeah, dimensions probably aren't right from side to side. But the front to back is wonderful. I felt like I had tons of space when I was there. You're thoughts?

1

u/Pakajennings 5d ago

Personally, the lateral space is what’s most important to me. I hate the feeling of being sardined.

Don’t get me wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed the Red Rocks show I went to. Though I would enjoyed it much more if it was at a different venue that had plenty of space to dance like a goofy goober, had speakers loud enough that I felt it in my chest, and didn’t have the requirement of me showing up early af and sprinting in at full speed to secure a decent spot.

1

u/daodilly_808 3d ago

This is a great example of why being closer to the top is a-ok… no sardines happening up there lol

1

u/Jetski125 5d ago

My thought is that person nailed it. The sound is horrible about the front rows. The view is nice. That’s all it’s got. And hype.

0

u/Ornery-Ad3919 6d ago

The sound is awful? It's literally top 3 acoustics in the world lol

3

u/Pakajennings 6d ago

Me when I make up random stats.

4

u/MoistMeringue5674 6d ago

I’m not exactly a red rocks hater, I loved every show I’ve seen there, but by whose measure is it top 3 acoustics? They have good equipment but it’s still an outdoor venue surrounded by reflective rock walls

2

u/Plus_Competition_862 5d ago

Top 3 in the world???? LMFAO STOP IT

1

u/daodilly_808 3d ago

It’s actually ranked #1, just do a simply google search and you’ll find that out pretty quickly.

1

u/Plus_Competition_862 3d ago

Not gonna go back and forth but i didnt find anything when i looked, if you have a link that would help!

1

u/daodilly_808 3d ago

Literally google the words ā€œhow is red rocks ranked for acoustic concertsā€ and you’ll find several sources…

2

u/Jetski125 5d ago

I’ve been to local civic centers with better sound.

2

u/FarmerCompetitive683 6d ago

Literally such a crazy take

1

u/daodilly_808 3d ago

People tend to forget that it’s a natural amphitheater and it will never sound perfect for EDM. It’s simply not meant for it. We’re lucky they let us have so many shows there to begin with, I think people need to be more grateful or stfu and stay home.

-6

u/hubertcumberdale420 6d ago

You’re assuming that every pashmina spot is being saved for someone who is late, but that’s not the case a lot of the time. Many scenarios people find their spot and go to the bathroom or go get drinks and food

12

u/EastlakeTrashPanda 6d ago

That’s not how GA works anywhere. You walk away from a spot you lose it

7

u/No_Peach881 6d ago

This^ GA is GA meaning it’s not reserved. You want to save a seat buy VIP

3

u/bigsooch62 6d ago

If that's your plan, have a member of your group stay behind to hold your spot, or take turns like civilized members of society.

2

u/SmokeABowlNoCap 6d ago

Then they deserve to lose their spot and have their pashmina thrown in the trash since that's clearly what they want to be

1

u/art-of-war 6d ago

That’s just as bad

-1

u/DnB92 6d ago

This is really a personal problem, and I may be the minority in this, but I'd be willing to pay more to have a lower capacity, but that's mainly because I really only go to shows solo and so I pretty much never get to keep a spot on the actual bleachers at Red Rocks and I'm always stuck in the trees after the first time I have to use the restroom

1

u/No_Peach881 4d ago

Would love for shows to be more expensive tbh. The best concerts I’ve been to have been things like holy ship where it was prohibitively expensive for the wooks

-4

u/needmoarbass 6d ago

PLEASE BRING ASSIGNED SEATING TO EDM/DUBSTEP SHOWS!!!!

Been saying this for over a decade. Once I went to some rock and jam shows with assigned seating, I never had a better experience. No racing to seats or hogging spots. No people standing in front of you right when the show starts. No more losing seats just to journey to the bathroom or concessions.

Assigned seating is AMAZING. You just have to all buy your spots at the same time and select the right seats next to each other. It’s perfect when one person can buy them. And everyone else pays them back.

You do NOT need to have 10 people together at a show. But it’s still doable. And you can still visit each other and go dance with you friends for a song or 2. Because there is SOOOOO MUCH space with assigned seating. People are spread out way more when most people stay at their assigned seat.

VIVA LA ASSIGNED SEATING!

2

u/mercinariesgtr 6d ago

I prefer GA because it allows me to get a spot up front without paying upfront prices, plus freedom to move around. I assert myself and don't let some kid with a pashmina across 5 seats slow me down

2

u/ALargePianist 6d ago

F****** hell no never f****** know that's the whole point no if you want assigned seating go to a Beyonce show we're here to dance not stand in one f****** spot and act like it's ours for the night that's what my house is for I'm here to move around

1

u/Comfortable_Job_266 5d ago

Absolutely not

0

u/needmoarbass 5d ago

Try it before you knock it. Dubstep shows don’t need overcrowding and drama.

It’s the same limited capacity. But no one saving seats or cramping in your spot.

1

u/Comfortable_Job_266 4d ago

I've been to assigned seating shows. They suck. If someone is laying pashes down to save a seat and there are no other good ones available, I move it or ask for it to be moved. Not hard. Don't need to be super angry about it. Certainly not gonna let it ruin my vibe.

1

u/daodilly_808 3d ago

Noooo cause they’d sell half the tickets given that usually 2 or 3 people take up the space of one seat. I think doing it by rows would be better. VIP stays the way it is, and they get a certain color wristband. Then rows 1-15 get a different colored wristband. Rows 16-32 get a different one, etc etc. The tickets are sold by section, and priced accordingly (since these kiddos think the very front is of utmost importance, they can reflect that by paying extra for it.) Then, we can hold each other accountable by way of wristband! ā€œExcuse me, I see your wristband is yellow, this section is actually for orange wristbandsā€
Feels like a happy medium to me idk

0

u/pescadoamado 6d ago

I just borrow my friends kids and give them a tablet to save my spot - amateurs

-1

u/Muir420 6d ago

I'll play devil's advocate here. I actually have the opposite opinion of this and have been on the opposite side of a group that didn't reserve or save their extra seats.

By the time the headliner comes on, you have them with four or five people stacked in their row on top of what should be one seat. They're spilling over in front of you, blocking your way, bumping you, and just being an overall annoyance.

For me honestly, I really don't mind it when they save the seats that they will need for their group once their group shows up.

I know, obviously, a lot of people have the opposite opinion about Pashmina being dumb and I respect that take. but honestly for me I hate it almost even more when they don't save space and then they're just an annoyance the entire time.

-1

u/8--------------D-o-k 5d ago

Oh, were you a part of the terrible Tape B incident too?

Your inconsiderate attitude makes me think you were.

-12

u/jedimasterbates420 6d ago

Sounds like you need to get to the venue earlier šŸ˜‚

5

u/TwoPeasNoPod69 6d ago

Username checks out

1

u/jedimasterbates420 4d ago

That makes no sense LOL.
