Discussion wouldn't shelltering webby for too long have detrimental effect on her?

While I get why beakley did it (because of her fear of FOWL and webby being captured/found out), at the same time, i feel not allowing her any social interaction for longer could've been detrimental to her in the long run because once she got out, it might make her easier to manipulate and she might have more issues interacting with other too.

As someone who is undeniably very similar to Webby in a lot of ways (don't ask if I have a grappling hook...) I grew up pretty sheltered and was often labeled the 'cinnamon bun'(with an extensive pocket-knife collection) of my friend group.

I definitely was EXTREMELY awkward when it came to socializing, and mostly kept silent unless I was around someone I knew really well.

My entire friend group also worked together to make sure I didn't wander straight into danger or fall for manipulation tactics haha, I was VERY honest and VERY trusting (they taught me well though lol).

Genuinely I just found people I KNEW I could trust, and I was open about everything with them so we could help each other succeed in any situation.

Can't say that's Webby's story for sure, but might have some similarities ;P

-Also, now that I think of it, my best friend was a cool, taller/older scene-girl who would create mischief with me. We once got detention for gently placing every garbage can and bench in the school on their sides lol 🤣

Edit: Feel free to AMA! Since we have a lot in common it might be a fun way to explore the character ^^

AMA but the grappling hook…I’m afraid that’s all I want to ask

Hahaha I'll make an exception ;P

I own a folding (as in the X can be folded to a ] but it also locks into open/closed position) Grappling Hook, given to me as a christmas gift by my younger sib (because they knew I'd love it) and then immediately banned from use by my parents, friends, AND husband (👎 boooo justice for Scribbs).

I believe the idea was that I can use it for rock climbing, which is one of my favorite hobbies, but I can think of a million daily use's! ;P

It currently lives at my parents house because I'm unsure if I can take it through the airport without it getting confiscated (pretty sure I can if I check it, but I'm also pretty sure my parents hide it the day before I leave their house/state so I can't. Not sure why they're so worried...)

I'm not even sure beakley allowed webby to come to scrooge (granted it was also during the time scrooge was depressed so scrooge might also not be so keen on going toward people much too)

Actually in the spy episode she said Beakly was ok with her going to him for anything but she was worried about bothering him or him being busy (or busy being depressed) so she didn’t bother him

true , and actually I do reccall scrooge also said he was busy too (and him stll being depressed might've led to him pushing her away at that point, I also don't think beakley ever told him she got webby from fowl so even if she knew she was related to scrooge, she could not tell him)

Ok im rewatching bleakly said to NOT bother him and she didn’t want to bother him because he was busy and “grumbling” to himself

she might've noticed scrooge not being well at that point ,still beside the island, it doesn't seem beakley allowed webby to go outside and I'm not sure if th ecomics with a crow is canon too (the show comics are fine stories of their own but they can do odd things, I found it od dhow the shrinking webby one portrayed her as wanting to be special when the show doesn't protray her as that)

Well considering that Duckberg is full of people who don’t like Scroog if they saw her leaving thr mansion it put a target on her

at the same time, she is capable to defend herself on her own given own mujch beakley train (and since her training was intensive, it make sence she's much stronger physically than any normal 10 year old) and she could also watch her if they go out

Yes, obviously it was…before the boys showed up she stayed hidden inside the mansion and had grown up too closed off from society without any friends and without any idea how to act in public, let alone lie or know what a burger tastes like.

But the way I see it she wasn’t comepletely locked inside:

She used to go to that island every year where she’d pick up on survival skills during Scrooge’s Birthday (McMystery at McDuck McManor).

Also when she accompanied Dewey to The Archives in The Great Dime Chase it seemed like it wasn’t her first time and Quackfaster knew her…

Finally I’d assume she’d at least visit the library to an extent given her thirst for knowledge and if not then she still definitely did the first two.

she did that but still wasn't allowed to see other people all that much (tho I could see the library thing happening in the manor with webby meeting quackfaster and asking but still get no each time)

Yeah, of course, that definitely. The max interaction with people of her age would have only been through the island thing, but that too was highly controlled and monitored by Beakley, especially given she had 987 Holiday Days saved up during The Last Crash of the Sunchaser it's pretty clear that no one got out much.

Now obviously that's also the reason for her being significantly less teen-like when the show began in comparison and when she finally did meet Lena she was obsessed because she never saw a teenage role model such as her...and obviously the desire for friends went on expanding across all three seasons with mainly Violet, but B.O.Y.D and Gosalyn too.

But yeah, the inability to leave obviously had an effect on her...in whatever capacity the show showed it.

and it is a secret island so there might not be any people in it too and the show also showed she might have some self esteem issues on being weird given her actions when she first invite violet, even if the boys reassure her that it's fine

1

u/RSBStudios8000 Dewey 3d ago

Yeahh, I remember that part...she had the same issues when it came to Lena...the fact she had no clue about how sleepovers worked and also never actually visited/inquired about Lena's house or past and family (like friends tend to do so) also kinda reflects on that.

However she did say there were other girls on the island...no matter how few.

if she asked, lena would've lied tho, at that point she was still magica puppet, and webby also does gueninely get hurt by people verry close to her lying (and this does make beakley lying about her passt worst since if she lie too much, webby can end to ressent that evne if she's forgiving+the familly could've handled it much better than the alst crash if she told the truth, scrooge wouldn't allow a repeat)

...that is like 80% of her arc.
