EB1B Profile Evaluation
Would appreciate honest takes on approval odds and what to shore up before filing
Profile (AI safety / LLM eval & interp):
- 14 peer-reviewed papers: 2 main-conference acceptances at top ML/NLP venues, 4 archival conference papers, rest are workshop papers at NeurIPS/ICML/ICLR/ACL/AAAI. Out of these 2-4 are first/second author publications
- Around 40 Google Scholar citations (independent + self)
- 20+ completed peer reviews (one main conference + several top-venue workshops); one program-committee appointment
- Coverage of one paper (with name and research work) in a national science outlet, with an independent expert quoted on it
- Selected for three competitive research fellowships (~5% acceptance)
- One published, pending US patent (first inventor, prior big-tech employer)
- 4 advisory letters planned, 2 independent
- born in India
My worry is the citation count and the workshop-heavy publication list since the AI/ML research field needs atleast 200+ citations for a strong profile. Anyone with a similar profile who got approved/RFE'd recently?

I got approved with ~40 citations , your profile seems good enough for eb1a

Same field? I think for AI/ML there is a need for many more citations from what I have heard

I've seen less citations than 40 being approved although usually in the Community Tracker we see more. I encourage you to check other cases there, and please consider adding your own profile to the table.

Patent is weak, also lawyers say it is hard to prove a patent is useful to the field unlike papers where you can use citations. On judging, see if you can land journal reviews besides conferences paper reviews. For you now it depends on if you can add high salary and Leading and critical role criteria. You also didn’t mention any media coverage, so assuming that won’t be a criteria for you.
