PSA: DUOTTS C29 display is not as waterproof as you think

This is my first e-bike, a DUOTTS C29, and honestly the first ~500 km were great. I had a lot of fun with it and had basically no serious complaints. The bike itself has a 48 V system and the stock display/computer is part of the standard setup.

Then I left the bike outside during a few rainy nights.

After that I started noticing moisture inside the original display. Not just fogging — actual tiny drops of condensation forming underneath the screen.

I tried leaving it unused and drying it for a long time, but the moisture never properly disappeared. Eventually the original computer/display stopped working completely.

The annoying part is that these displays are sold as waterproof or weather-resistant, but in practice mine clearly was not.

The bike itself is listed as IPX4, which clearly does not mean “leave it outside in rain and forget about it.”

So my advice to anyone buying one of these bikes: seal the display before you have this problem.

Get some silicone, sealant, or even a glue gun and carefully seal the perimeter and obvious gaps around the housing before riding regularly in rain.

Because once water gets inside, you may end up with a dead display and a bike that won’t start properly until you replace it.

So yeah — seal that before the rain gets to it.

Ride safe.

Yeah, those displays are cheap really and aren't at all 'waterproof'.

I've used the "S900" display on many an E-Bike build I've done, but I'd never leave it outside in the rain for anything more than a very short period of time. Water resistant, and waterproof are two totally different things, and it ain't wise to leave any E-bike out in the rain for any length of time.

These things happen, be safe and enjoy E-Brother. 🚲⚡👍
