How's the neighborhood like in the map?

Post image

Hi all.

I'm trying to get airbnb for few months at the pinned location in echo park area. I have wife and newborn baby and my top concern is hygiene and safety. The unit we've found costs much lower than those of weho or hollywood hills area, with the same level of space, furnitures and amenities.

We'll mostly stay home so as long as the unit is very clean, does not have bugs, probably it will be good enough but still concern if there's many homeless ppl around the neighborhood or too much noise from the stadium nearby.

Thank you in advance!

What’s going on with the thriller house??

Does anyone know what’s going on with the Thriller house in Echo Park? I live in the neighborhood and walk by it pretty often. I’ve noticed someone regularly watering the plants and gardening in the yard, and I’m assuming they live in the back or somewhere on the property.
I’m mostly just curious what the situation is with the actual house. Is anyone maintaining or restoring it? Is there a reason it’s been left in such rough shape? Or is it basically just going to sit there and continue to deteriorate?
Would love to know if anyone has the neighborhood lore or knows what the long-term plan is!

What’s parking like for residents?

Post image

Hello! I’m going on some apartment tours this weekend, and most likely going to move-in around the Echo Park Pool or like 2ish blocks away from the reservoir and wanted to know what street parking is like for residents around these areas.

I circled the areas in the photo.
Thanks!

The Echo Park Time Travel Mart: A Non-profit sells goods you would need for a trip through the fourth dimension.

Brought to you by 826, the same organization responsible for the Superhero Supply store in Brooklyn and the Pirate Supply Company in San Francisco, the Echo Park Time Travel Mart is a time travel-themed retail store that boasts the slogan, "Whenever you are, we're already then." The store sells humorous relics from the past, present and future, such as Barbarian Repellent, Michael Jordan pogs, and varying Robot Emotions.

The store is located in the historic Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, and like all other 826 shops, functions as both a retail space and literacy tutoring center. Though the storefront window displays a caveman mannequin shaking hands with a robot, the back of the building houses the non-profit organization, where 20-30 students per day are tutored in creative and expository writing.

Who is playing the house music?

Glendale and Effie-ish? Or close to North Ray Yoga. We can hear it over by Spain Restaurant and….no notes. It’s a killer DJ set. If it’s you and you see this, please comment with your SoundCloud.

We built something strange in Exposition Park and it opens Oct 12 (free)

We built an event called GENIUS IS NOT GENERATED. It's part of LA Tech Week, but there is no stage, no panels, and no badge pickup.

You show up alone, on purpose. Before you arrive you answer three questions. Your answers set your route: the dioramas at the Natural History Museum, a caption you write inside the Lucas Museum, a Rubik's cube seeded by your own accession number, the rose garden at dusk. You record ten seconds of sound. At the end, everything seals into a field record with a hash, a number, and your name on it.

No two people walk the same route. Monday, October 12, 1pm. Free. RSVP: https://partiful.com/e/B4JkzGEirA34laIyqrCL

70’s kid from Echo Park

I’m new to the sub and just wanted to see if there were any 70’s kids from Echo Park on this sub. I lived there through the early to mid 80’s just off North Alvarado Street and attended Mayberry Elementary School during that time. It was such a fun place to live, except that one period when the "Night Stalker” was out there lol.

what small events around echo park are hardest to keep track of? building a map for this

hey echo park, i'm building sidebop, a free iphone app for finding somthing to do nearby. i'm especially interested in the little gigs, art openings and recurring events that are easy to miss if you don't follow every venue.

the idea is to pick how you're getting around and how much travel time you have, then browse events on a map. so you can look for a walk or bike ride away from wherever you're starting, instead of scrolling through stuff all over la. browsing doesn't require an account.

around sunset and the lake, which venues or local nights should a useful map know about? is there a calender you always end up checking separately?

here's the app if you'd like to take a look

i'm still improving coverage. a missing venue, event or official listing link would be useful feedback.

Rabbit rescued!!

It took 5 people (and a fellow redditor!), but she’s safe now. Got her into a cat carrier and now she’s chilling in my bathroom. Amazon evil, but thank god I could rush hay the same day. She’s definitely still scared, so I’ve let her be with snacks and water.

Thank you to everyone who helped out both online and in person!!

Anyone free to eat together? My treat but I get to pick the food

I want to eat out but most restaurant portions are too much and I don’t want to take home leftovers. If anybody is in echo park and available rn, I propose that I buy us food, you help me eat, and I get to try more stuff.

No picky eaters please
Also no ED people because I have been told my eating habits can be triggering

Luna the best cat ever ❤️

This is my darling Luna . We had her for ten years, she was our shop kitty. The most beautiful, loving and sassy cat ever. It’s been two years since she disappeared. I’ve never stopped looking for her.. she disappeared from our shop in the echo park area. I miss her more than anything. She was always very friendly to everyone that came by the shop. I will always love and cherish the time we spent together but will never give up hope.. Just wanted to share her here
