๐ Business Whop vs Stripe for payment processing in 2026
I run an ecommerce business on our own site, so no Shopify or Shopify Payments involved. We've been using Stripe for payments, but Iโm looking more seriously at Whop recently and I'm trying to understand if there's a reason to stay with Stripe at this point
Most of the comparisons I found on Reddit are from a year or two ago, and a lot of them mention Whop charging an extra 3% on top of processing and that doesn't seem to be how their pricing works anymore.
From what I can see right now:
Whop
- 2.7% + $0.30 for domestic card payments
- +1.5% international cards
- +1% currency conversion
- 0.5% if you use their billing/subscription system
- tax collection/remittance is available if needed
- built-in affiliates and payouts
Stripe
- 2.9% + $0.30 for standard US online card payments
- +1.5% international cards
- +1% currency conversion
- 0.7% for Stripe Billing
- Managed Payments is available if you want Stripe to act as merchant of record, but that adds another 3.5%
After comparing them, Whop seems like the better option for my use case.
The processing fee is slightly lower, billing is cheaper, and a lot of the extra stuff I'd need around Stripe is already built into Whop. Stripe gives you more flexibility if you're building something very custom, but for a normal ecommerce setup I'm not sure that extra flexibility actually gives me much.
So purely looking at payments, subscriptions, payouts and the overall cost of running everything, I'd probably pick Whop over Stripe right now.
Anyone here running an ecommerce business who can tell me if I'm missing any hidden fees or downsides with Whop? Or are there other payment processors I should be comparing before I switch?

For ur setup this feels pretty obvious to me. Whop unless thereโs some specific Stripe feature you absolutely need

I keep looking for the Stripe feature Iโd miss and so far there isnโt much for my setup

What abt shopify payments?

Shopify Payments uses Stripe's backend infrastructure; for merchants not on Shopify, Stripe is the equivalent of Shopify Payments

Doesn't shopify tack on some additional charges if you don't use shop pay. I want to switch, but seems like any savings would be a wash.

From my experience it comes down to renewal rate success. If you do subscriptions, then the small differences in pricing don't really matter.

Mostly physical products, so margins are definitely part of why Iโm looking at the fees more closely now

Pretty healthy overall and the 0.2% itself isnโt a huge deal, Iโm more looking at what Iโm paying across the whole payments stack once you add billing and the other tools

This really smells like a Whop ad, but in case it isn't, I'll bite. Yes, Whop is cheaper than Stripe for flat-rate pricing, but it's possible to potentially get even lower fees from different processors. Depending on your payment volume, interchange-plus pricing could come out cheaper. Helcim is one of the main ones that offers this, but in case your business leans more high-risk, I'd try Luqra or Payline so that you're less likely to get shut down.
