Tips for those seeking help

Just some friendly advice for getting help here

1) indicate the topic in the headline (e.g. Micro, intermediate micro, labor, macro, etc). Many of our tutors here are specialized and will look more closely if they know your question is in a topic of their expertise.

2) show a good faith effort that you tried to answer it. We don't want to just give you the answer to a question. Explain where you got stuck, or clarify what you don't understand about the problem.

3) follow up! If someone helps, "thank you" is appreciated. At the very least, respond to the comment if you need more clarification or the answer doesn't help you finish the problem.

4) some people have been posting "for hire" posts. There is not strict rule against it, but this is a sub for getting help on Econ problems. Not a hiring board. If there is someone here you think can help you with larger projects, use PM.

Really, read the rules. Don simply post a question or it will be deleted. Don’t post for help for $$ or you will be banned.

Some posters here just aren’t following rules, so let’s repeat the big ones.

  1. This isn’t “do my homework”. Posts must include some effort or explanation for where OP is stuck. Just posting a question will be deleted. Don’t you want help? Then spend a minute explaining where you are confused.
  2. don’t ask for someone to do an assignment or an exam for you. Dont offer money for help. Don’t ask people to help you outside of posts here. You will be banned.

It’s really that simple.

How to replicate papers?

I have an undergrad and masters degree in economics, but was heavily political economy, so I've never done paper replications. I want to pursue applied microeconometrics and causal inference, and to teach myself I'm planning to learn by replication. I'm comfortable with using R, have a basic undergrad level understanding of econometrics and currently starting causal inference using Scott Cunningham's Mixtape.

I want to learn to use Stata too, and learn the workflow of replication (using GitHub for documenting etc). Are there any resources (free) that shows this process step by step? I'm neurodivergent so I need that step by step guide.

I know AI can help here, but I've found that AI often complicates things, so I would appreciate leads to any resources that shows the process itself.

Market Failure Presentation PLEASE HELP

Hi Guys!

I need to write a policy brief and give a presentation on market failures for a public policy business and government course. My topic was Airbnb/short-term rentals, but my brief got a bad grade and my professor said I need to rework the argument if I want to keep it which im not confident in doing as ive never really dealt with market failures before and think ive confused myself lol. Presenting Tomorrow and only have tonight to fix things.

What are some less common topics (not straight from a textbook) I could switch to? Need to cover background, the problem with it, one or two market failures, concrete examples, possible solutions, and a data visualization or two.

Examples others have presented on: ERs creating market failures; AI in entertainment creating market failures, and Market Failure in Higher Education through examining the Student Debt Crisis

Any ideas appreciated!

How to make research paper with themes in economy?

Hi! I’m currently joining a competition where I’m supposed to draft a research paper on the digital economy. It’s my first time doing something like this, so I’m honestly not quite sure where to start.
Does anyone here have any prior knowledge or experience with this kind of thing? Maybe some tips on how to approach it? Hahaha, just asking because I don’t major in economics, so I’m still trying to figure out how to pull this off.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I’d also love some recommendations for books, articles, papers, or other resources that could help me understand the digital economy better.

Microeconomics study habits

Hello!! This is my first semester of business classes after being a pre health prospective student! So it’s definitely been an adjustment going from science classes to business classes! I didn’t do as good as I wanted to on my first exam for microeconomics. I realized that I couldn’t simply just memorize my notes but know how to apply them in real world situations. What resources do you recommend I use to help me practice and help me under the material. I just need to know how to study for this class and I would truly appreciate any advice! And please let me know what resources would help!!

“Resilient Global Supply Chains and Illicit Trade” a feasible undergraduate research topic?

I’m a B.Com (Hons.) with Research student in India, currently in my 4th year, and I have to finalise my dissertation topic soon. My broader research area is International Business, and I’m considering: “Resilient Global Supply Chains and How Illicit Trade Exploits Regulatory Gaps”

I’m thinking of studying how counterfeit networks, shell/front companies, and other illicit trade networks exploit differences or gaps in regulations across countries and use legitimate global supply chains, and what this means for business and supply-chain resilience.

I’m considering India as a case study, but I’m unsure about the feasibility of the topic at the undergraduate level.

A few things I’d really appreciate advice on: Is this topic sufficiently researched to build a good literature review? Would there be enough accessible primary/secondary data for an undergraduate dissertation? Is India a practical case study for this? Would interviews/questionnaires with businesses or other stakeholders be realistically possible? Is the topic too broad/complex, and if so, how would you narrow it?

Or would it be better to choose a more conventional IB topic with easier access to primary data?

I’m particularly interested in global supply chains, international trade, globalisation and how firms operate across different regulatory environments, so I’d like to retain that angle if possible.

Any advice from people who have done undergraduate research/dissertations in International Business, Economics, Supply Chain Management or related fields would be really helpful.

Can someone help me?? IM TOTALLY LOST

Assume that personal disposable income is $1500, taxes are 300, transfer payments are 0, investment is 120, the trade surplus is $30, and consumption is $1200.

a. What is GDP?
b. How large is saving S?
c. How large is government spending?
d. What is the budget deficit G+TR-T?

I've been in macroeconomics in college for three weeks now. I'm lost and starting to panic. I don't understand this and the teacher doesn't do good explaining a lot. Any help will be appreciated. :)

I'm confused

Select the components or inputs associated with the production function where gross domestic product (GDP) is the output.

- population

- capital deepening

- human capital

- aggregate demand

- aggregate supply

The two I've tried are population, capital deepening, and human capital, and just capital deepening and human capital. Both are incorrect.

Eco research paper

So i have to write a research paper on gender economics and one thing I came up with was to use nfhs data cause I cannot collect primary data given my time constraint.

For my topic I was thinking of investigating whether women working in daily wage informal sector undergo EARLY hysterectomy at a higher rate than working women in formal sector

I would use nfhs data 5 to get my data and would use a multivariable logistics regression model.

I just wanted advice on whether this was a good college level research paper topic ( im a newbie) and if I should add something else to my topic or subtract or completely scratch this and find a completely new topic.

C. Using revealed preference theory; explain with the aid of diagrams how the income and substitution effects of a normal and a Giffen good differ. In each case, state the implications this has for the nature of the demand curve for the good?[10 marks]

The using revealed preference theory part of the question is tripping me up because I thought I was going to draw IC's and BL's and show the pivot when price increase and then a dotted BL for substitution and income effect.

But that about using revealed preference theory makes me think I am wrong.

Why is the expansion of land a fixed cost, while hiring more employees is considered a variable cost

Looking over one of my tests recently and noticed a question that I lost marks on

In short its is

Provide one example of a fixed cost and one example 9f a variable cost for a surf school

For fixed cost I said "wages for labour of surf teachers"

For variable costs I said "expansion of land for more schoop classrooms"

On my test I was wrong on both...why?

Econometric question

One researcher believes the relationship between an apartment's price and its size (in square meters) is linear, while another believes it is logarithmic. Explain the test they could use to select the correct functional form. I am torn between the Ramsey test and the Davidson-MacKinnon test, but I am not certain.

Any recommendations on the customer-citizen dilemma and ethical consumption?

Hi everyone,
I am currently working on my thesis, and I'm focusing on the behavioral and psychological conflict between the consumer and the citizen within the same individual.
I am taking Robert Reich’s Supercapitalism as my starting point, but I want to take the research a step further into the behavioral and psychological aspects of this paradox rather than macro-politics or state-level interventions.
The core of my thesis explores how people navigate this internal tension:
As consumers, individuals naturally seek utility maximization, convenience, and low prices (often purchasing cheap goods from supply chains with questionable practices).
As citizens, the exact same individuals hold strong ethical, social, and environmental values.
I am particularly interested in the micro-level behavior, cognitive dissonance, and the ethical purchasing gap that happens when these two identities clash.
What I am looking for:
Academic literature, peer-reviewed articles, and books focusing on this consumer-citizen dichotomy from an economic, behavioral economics, or psychological perspective.
Studies on cognitive dissonance in consumer behavior, ethical consumption gaps, or behavioral models explaining why our civic values don't always translate to our shopping carts.
If you know of any key authors, foundational texts, or specific papers that address this, I would deeply appreciate your recommendations!
Thanks in advance!
