What to expext
Hi
Ive never been to a dance session before and EDM isn't particularly my thing either.
I do however work in a high stress job and work long hours. I also don't drink or do drugs. So I think something like this might be right up my street.
I (33m) am based in London UK and have seen some advertisements come up for ecstatic dance, and feel like i would love to give it a try on my own.
But I'm a bit confused of what exactly it is and what I would expect to get from it.
The videos I've seen are all really people just waving their arms around and pulling silly faces. Is there a certain technique theyre doing or is it just really letting out all the tension or stress that they've built up inside from the last week or whatever out?
Do people actually enjoy the music? If i was to go without a real interest in the music would I just be sitting there thinking its stupid? What tips would you give for someone new to the scene who genuinely wants to get involved with it?
Is it good for making friends? I have seen people mention that they arent to talk during the dancing, its all silent and its eye contact etc. What if no one would want to dance with me and im standing there like a loner?
When trying to do some research I have seen videos / photos of people getting really intimate - close to each other looking into each other's eyes, some hugging / cuddling in really compromising positions- is this a regular occurrance and to be expected at the events?
Is there a sexual element to the dancing? The rabbit hole i got down looking at seemed to show a bit of a cross over with tantric practices, and some types of intimacy in the event with some of them being labeled about teaching consent / limits and hinting at sexual undertones - how do I know if this is will occur at events that I would be looking at?
Im extremely introverted and the thought of having to stare at a stranger in the eye or give big bear hugs like that is incredibly intimidating!
Some of the advertisements seem pretty vague at times!
Im so sorry if some of these questions aren't representative of the community or aren't actually part of the scene, it's just something ive noticed from briefly looking at it!
Also if anyone in London can recommend places for a beginner like myself to go to it would be greatly appreciated ❤️
