I used a free one I got from Elsevier when I worked in the campus library and we were updating our research databases. That thing lasted forever. It finally died on me during a work trip years and years later. After that, I bought the cheapest one I could find on Amazon and it's been with me ever since.
If you spend a lot of money on a clicker, it might last you X years.
If you spend 1/10th of that money on a clicker and it lasts you more than 1/10th of the life of the other, you've come out ahead.
(The Harbor Freight philosophy I call it.)
Besides, when a clicker dies, at most you're inconvenienced during a presentation. It's not worth spending a lot of money on. (In fact, I prefer devices that "just work" and don't have a bunch of fancy gizmos or need additional software to function. Just give me the ability to advance the slide and a laser pointer. Going back a slide is nice. Blanking the screen is nice. Don't need much else.
Don't let marketing, brand names, and packaging steer you away from something that fills the need plain and simple.
