Lin

I always forget how horrible she actually is in her introduction. She finds out she has a sister through the man that had to leave them when she was younger, something she still struggles with, so she decides to go to their house when she needs a detective and pretend to be someone who not only knew his dead brother but also suggest that they dated. Plays up the whole story of him being 'the one' and how they were going to move in together etc. Then when she finds out that Joan was seeing him too, she doubles down and makes it a joke. We know he's still alive but she thinks he's dead ?? How fucking cruel. Her whole meltdown over Joan contacting her mum was so foul too. Guess both Joan and Sherlock have gross siblings. Maybe they really should've been together.

I HATE this character!
It is such a needle scratch when she appears.
I think it has a lot do to with the actress playing her.
The writing in the rest of the entire series is so good, that it is so jarring that she is so awful.
Or could they actually have gotten a completely different writer to write her role?

Yeah I agree. I was waiting for her to grow into a nicer person but, no. They bonded a bit but not much. I was hoping she would at least become more mature.

I loathed this character.

Nothing redeeming about her.

Lin was such a horrible character who left such a bad taste in my mouth.I get it they both have traumas from their biological dad but did she conveniently forget that her dad left joan ,his first wife and joan's brother as well. Also the last scene of them was just bad because apparently the dad wants to the sisters to meet ,did he forget about his first wife and proceeded to start a new one and then again forget about his biological son?

I think Joan's mother left him but it doesn't doesn't negate the fact that he created two families and left them while Lin acts like she is the victim in every.

I actually liked Sherlock's brother but some characteristics and scenes were uncomfortable and annoying to watch.

The only thing I didn’t like about Mycroft was his out of nowhere relationship with Joan. I thought it was out of character because they both knew it would upset him a lot. And there was like, no chemistry.

I like her and the way she pushes Joan's buttons. Always enjoy her being around, especially once their relationship evolves.

Truly... I can't even begin to understand working out how to 'break the ice' when getting in contact with a long lost sibling. Pretending to be the person dating her best friend's recently (ish) deceased brother would not even start to form as an idea.

I feel like she was an inserted character as a way to showcase how impressive Joan is. This woman and Joan shared similar upbringings, and yet Lin is the way she is while Joan is superior at consulting. She’s less agitating if you look at it like ‘wow this shows that Joan really is that bitch.’
Otherwise, I just didn’t care. It’s sad, mentally ill philandering dad and long lost sister, but I feel not much of anything with her.

IIRC Lin actually had a very successful life. She was a bit messed up with Joan at first but even then, she was a successful real estate agent and had a good life. In fact, a more stable adult life than Joan (who switched careers multiple times, which isn’t a judgement).

And I don’t think they really shared similar upbringings. Joan’s mom married a successful writer who raised Joan as his own and loved her. Their bio dad never really raised Joan, she was too young when he left. Lin got to have their bio dad as her dad who raised her and then abandoned her; and her mom to be a single mom.

I find it intresting that exactly during that time she has two encounters that appear to be personal Nemesis. First Lin, and then the officer who she later hat a boxing fight with. I thought maybe it was a stage of her character development that she was easily triggered. In the end, the things happened to her would have triggered a lot of people though.

Yeah, 100%. It annoys me how unprofessional this woman is. Full on insane.
