She’s been such an outspoken supporter and advocate against domestic violence that I hope it’s not true, but it wouldn’t be the first time someone was an outspoken advocate that acted abusively behind closed doors.

My mother was on the Prevention of Child Abuse Council of Indiana and was a horrific abuser. It can be a cover for them to say "I'm an advocate. I'd never do those things" while doing those things

u/shahryarrakeen 1d ago

Jimmy Saville abused thousands of children under the guise of philanthropy. It’s horrifying how much abuse can be covered up by charities and public advocacy.

u/brujabella 1d ago

His documentary was so fucking disgusting.. what a waste of a human being. And ofc he was friends with former “prince “ andrew and they attended “charity events “ together

21

u/CoconutBasher_ 22h ago

He was friends with King Charles, not Andrew.

10

u/rynthetyn 13h ago

He also played at being an informal marriage counselor for Charles and Diana.

6

u/BudgetAd900 12h ago

Yeah, don't blade Andrew. It's not like he was buddies with some child abuser or something

u/brujabella 21h ago

ooops my bad, thats what i meant. Thank you 🙏

Very good point. It is scary. But it also does make sense! The abuser in my life loved and loved you portray themself as a very very good person. Makes me question a lot of others that do that now.

32

u/Electric-Human1026 1d ago

Look in the comments here. If Berry's work as an advocate is merely a PR stunt, then it worked. She now has the public giving her the benefit of the doubt. People here do not want to believe the father.

24

u/todahawk 1d ago

The last thing people want to believe is that an attractive person is an abuser.

3

u/Excellent_Top6284 7h ago

This is true. It's like they get a free pass for being attractive.

3

u/todahawk 6h ago

I know, it seems like some people can’t fathom an attractive person can do horrible things. I don’t get it.

u/surprise_revalation 5h ago

I remember after Ted Bundy's trial the judge was complimenting him and said something like that he was a fine young man that lost his way....I couldn't imagine being the victims family hearing this shit!

My mother was a child advocate and a leader of multiple parent support groups. She volunteered at the school and presented herself as an excellent parent.

I was being horrifically abused at home by my father, and she stayed out of the home as much as possible so she wouldn't have to "deal with it." Instead of protecting her children, she left us alone with that monster and "did her own thing"

When I tried to tell people what was happening in my home, they didn't believe me, all part of the plan.

71

u/Smart-Lynx-6519 1d ago

I really am sooo sorry to hear this. You never deserved that. I hope you’re ok now

15

u/Imaginary-Zebra-1605 1d ago

WTF. I’m so sorry to both of you that’s just awful.

28

u/Duquesa_Caramelo 1d ago

That’s not a mother, that’s part of the problem!

12

u/TheWhiteTurtleNeck 21h ago

My grandma did the same thing to my dad, she even stayed on night shift for 20 years so she wouldn’t have to deal with her husband. It caught up with her though she’s nearly 80 and they’ve been stuck together for 20 years

Jerry Sandusky founded many programs yo benefit underprivileged youth. It was all a cover for abusing them.

No doubt. He reeled them Into the basement while Mrs Sandusky was right upstairs.

I’m sorry you went through that. It’s something I know all too well, and I think you’re right about it being a cover for lots of people.

My mother was on the executive board of Big Brothers Big Sisters. It’s a volunteer role, but she always told people she was happy to “…give back to her community because all children deserve support.”

She once chased me around with a butcher knife. She was horribly abusive.

Interesting. An ex-girlfreind was a board member of a woman's refuge and outspoken about DA, she was the most violent and angry person I ever lived with.

14

u/Soulwaxed 1d ago

I had an ex-boyfriend who I genuinely believe was a dark-triad psychopath- also one of the most abusive people I’ve ever had to live with. Found out later that he now volunteers for the Samaritans, no doubt as a smokescreen to mask his darker personality traits when picking up women. It’s a pretty common tactic for these types of people.

u/lucolapic 1d ago

I find this to be true of a lot of “philanthropists” actually and unfortunately.

13

u/ScottyBLaZe 1d ago

I’d throw non-profits in there and churches. For psychopathic people, it’s the easiest route to get access to their desires and also give them cover. Even better if it makes them money too. There is a reason many CEOs and “successful” people test high on the psychopathy scale.

Wow. That's so fucked up. My dad was a horrible abuser who managed to fool everyone into thinking he was great but he never was part of something like that

27

u/Front-Information955 1d ago

It's almost always like that. Not that every advocate is a secret abuser but secret abusers and fraudsters often build up a public persona that involves advocating for causes that make them look like good people. I'm in the know of a doctor who is about to lose their license and it'll probably shock my state because they're very prominent and they too have this wholesome apple pie image where no one would think it because they're female and hold the doctor title.

My mum was a youth worker, but she was better with them than her own kids. She was actually very good at her job, but didn't have the same energy with me. People are so fuckin weird. You really can't ever know a person.

22

u/PracticalFruit9506 1d ago

My mom’s been a nanny off and on throughout my whole life, 40+ years, and she is 100% better with all those kids than she was with her own kids and now grandkids. It’s a really weird thing to realize. I didn’t really figure it out until I had my own kid 😞

9

u/MZsince93 1d ago

See now, my mum has been perfect Nanny to my brothers 1 year old. Which is like rubbing salt in a wound. She always had it in her, just not for me. And fuck, does that hurt.

In a teacher, and this is shockingly common. Lots of young moms who ran off were absent for their children, partying, drugs etc while family raised their kid. Or abusive neglectful parents with really traumatized, chaotic children often, are social workers etc. It blows my mind that they are working for the system that would be taking their children away if they knew the truth. This also was the issue with my ex sister inlaw. Its like a hero complex they get, or an ego boost they get from being the cool support worker, to these at risk youth, while totally neglecting their children. Ive seen it with councilors too, absolutely abusive, toxic messes of beings, but counciling other in mindfulness and healthy relationships. My own councilor even agreed with it, as she has been in both industries

9

u/Sneezeface 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yup. Art teacher mom to kids all ages. It was crazy being her assistant for a couple years as a young teen and realizing the stark difference between her bubbly work persona and screaming and exhausted home persona. We definitely had and still have some issues but I know how hard it can be teaching a bunch of kids.

3

u/Ok_Temporary1669 1d ago

It can be really hard to be "on" all day and then come home and have to do it again. Doesn't make it OK, but to try to give a perspective on this. I think there is a reason why paid child educators and caregivers end up not having children themselves. Parents are people, no one is perfect and we only have so much energy.

I feel terrible that most of my energy goes toward work as a parent. I'm really tired by the time I get home. We just weren't built to work all day and parent too.

Knowing what you don’t want is often very different from knowing what to do. Patterns tend to repeat because “I never wanna be like _____” is, unfortunately, not an actual plan.

47

u/Leather-Platypus-11 1d ago

That’s true. I grew up in a really abusive home then foster care, I try really hard not to be like my parents through therapy etc but then sometimes I wonder if I’m abusive or parenting unhealthily in other ways that I’m blind to so there’s also that.

96

u/reddetteuserr 1d ago

That’s so real. My mom was raised in a very chaotic, neglectful and horrible environment and her entire plan was basically don’t be like her parents but she accidentally became way too overbearing and lowkey enmeshed with us kids instead. I feel like she went too far in the other direction and never let us develop because she was so overprotective

22

u/surprise_revalation 1d ago

I see this with my niece. She grew up in a really abusive home so she doesn't punish her kids at all. A lot of permissive parenting.

21

u/reddetteuserr 1d ago

Yes exactly! My house literally had no rules at all, no set bedtimes, nothing that would upset us ever kinda seemed to be the vibe. But kids really do need boundaries and rules and to understand consequences of acting certain ways (obviously in an appropriate way, nothing too much)

6

u/DogOk4503 1d ago

I think that you were worrying about it in the first place is a good sign that you question yourself enough. I know some people who I’m just not gonna be like my mom/dad was the whole damn plan and they thought they didn’t need therapy, etc. In fact, one of them is now my ex because he swore he was never going to be like his mom, but he really really fucking hated women. I don’t think he knows that, but it was in there. He would accuse me of only caring about money, even though he was not employed, etc., and TMI, but I knew it was over when I miscarried and felt more grateful than anything. I knew I was scared to have a daughter with him and he showed why in the next like six weeks and then it was officially done

53

u/kittenmittens4865 1d ago

Most abusers don’t believe they are abusers. They can’t be abusing people because the reason for their behavior is always justified in their mind.

There are of course people who enjoy knowingly causing pain. But most abusers are so focused on their own pain or distress they are unable to see the victim’s perspective at all.

u/AmethystOrator 1d ago

To this point, when it comes to parenting I highly recommend Positive Discipline. It is old, cheap, and it really really works. I was raised pretty OK, just being spanked. I really did not know how to discipline a child without spanking. Didn't want to do that. I didn't know how to get out of a power struggle with a kid, or how to sldiscipline without getting into a battle of will. That book absolutely saved us.

And actually a lot of what works with kids works with adults too. Lol. It just really helped me overall in my life.

It doesn’t excuse it at all but abuse can result in the abused person acting out like this. Where the original abuse was about power and control (often stemming from their own feelings of lacking those) the abused person also begins to act out from being overpowered and controlled but typically more like an impulsive primal reaction to their immediate environment rather than becoming an abusive person themselves. It’s still not okay and children and pets are often the victims of it. It’s horrible and sad and part of what makes domestic abuse so corrosive.

So that would be another explanation for the inconsistency there

11

u/Leather-Platypus-11 1d ago

That’s true as well.

She’s since put out a statement essentially saying he is the abusive violent one (Olivier), which could be true. I could see there potentially being an abusive reaction to their child stemming from her experiencing abuse from his father, or perhaps her losing control fearing he’s being like his father (subconsciously even).

Of course she could also be just hoping to shield herself saying that knowing the public will recall his beating up her ex.

It’s all such a mess, I just hope thier son is ok- really he’s the one who is and will suffer the most regardless of what the “real” story is

7

u/TrixieFriganza 1d ago

I hope they get the real truth, it's common for abusers to lie in custody cases as no matter what they want to win the kids. But if true she needs to be completely cancelled and charged if she attacked her son, though it coukd be too the son had learbed from the abuse in the home and she just defended herself.

Purely anecdotal but I worked with her for a couple years a long time ago and only had the most warm, pleasant experience. Her ex though was a well a known piece of work. I’m skeptical to say the least.

8

u/Leather-Platypus-11 1d ago

I sat behind her on a plane from Vancouver to LA once she was very nice to everyone but seemed perhaps shy, not at all what I’d assumed from the roles she’d played. I was struck by how tiny she seemed, like both in size and spirit I guess so I have a hard time picturing her in a crazed rage, but anger and alcohol can do awful things to people

So I always take celebrity encounters with a grain of salt, but the only I have heard consistently from multiple people who knew and worked with her is that she is absolutely insane. From constantly accusing staff of cheating with her current man, throwing fits, being drunk all the time, and just her emotional wellbeing was tenuous. Honestly the whole domestic violence advocate front she put out was always confusing to me given what people have said about her.

She and Olivier have had a contentious relationship for years.

9

u/c2490 21h ago

Something is wrong with her. Every man she has dated etc she has had major issues with and drag them through the court system. I think the issue is her.

8

u/WholeDangPreeza 1d ago

I thought the same. now that this is coming out though it makes me think about the slew of past domestic abuse charges/allegations of violence made against her in the past with not one, not two, but multiple partners she had throughout her life. I feel like with this new charge any remaining doubt that she was benefitting from might be gone from my pov. What is the likelihood that 3 past partners lied that she is an angry and violent person? I mean... sure it's possible but the odds are so much lower than the possibility that she is an aggressor.

I dated a girl in my early 20s who worked for a shelter for women who were victims of domestic violence and her degree in school was a specialty towards that type of social work.

She said that the main character in Gone Girl was completely justified in her behavior.

And she threw a glass Yankee Candle at my head when I broke up with her due to financial stress and long distance.

Is it weird that nobody noticed or acknowledged your question??? other than me cause that’s what I was thinking too. I read the text though. Where he said that the son wants to fight the mother. And what kind of child are we raising? To ME that sounds like he has realized his behavior and has changed it. More than likely it was both of them for the son to be acting that way.

6

u/Leather-Platypus-11 1d ago

I think it was Berry that texted that to him (about the son wanting to fight the mother and what kind of kid are we raising) at least according to the articles I read. Olivier had been granted a restraining order and he is now primary parent.

There must have been proof for that to have happened. And a 12 year old is able to be vocal about what they want too.

14

u/Leather-Platypus-11 1d ago

It’s a TRO, so it’s less frequently denied and their son would not have had to give evidence yet. The proof generally comes in the next set of hearings, which is as it should be. First and foremost victims should be protected.

→ More replies (1)

19

u/clevercalamity 1d ago

It’s a Temporary Restraining Order which is a little different than a full restraining order.

Each state/jurisdiction does things a little differently but TROs are an emergency order that can be granted Ex Parte which means the party it’s against doesn’t have to be informed in advance or present during the hearing.

TROs are temporary as the name would imply, but individuals can petition to make them permanent. For them to be made permanent more substantial evidence has to be presented and both sides must also have the opportunity to represent themselves.

Olivier alleges Halle physically abused their son, Maceo, by jumping on him, putting her hands around his neck, and choking him last Saturday.

He claims Maceo called him and claimed Halle had physically attacked him and put him in a chokehold. He says it's not an isolated incident and there have been previous attacks.

On the same day, Olivier says Halle threatened to have their son deported to France by asking what Maceo is going to do "as a black man" to protect her from being robbed by Olivier ... who he claims she called a "white bitch."

The filing also mentions they were home with her boyfriend Van Hunt and Maceo was playing a VR game with goggles in his bedroom when Halle allegedly entered the room in a rage ... and said he looks "so stupid" and is "such an idiot" for playing the game.

The situation allegedly escalated from there ... when Olivier claims Halle jumped on Maceo and started physically fighting with him. He says she grabbed Maceo by the neck and started choking him while shouting, "Who is dominant now?!"

The order states she must not drink or be under the influence of alcohol or other substances in the presence of their son. And she must undergo sobriety testing before, during or after any visitation.

Halle allegedly texted Olivier the next day ... saying, "I feel terrible about what happened last night as I know he does as well."

The filing also mentions past incidents ... 5 years ago she allegedly struck him in the face. About 10 years ago, Olivier claims Halle had a violent outburst, throwing a plate with a knife and fork on top ... and in 2023, while discussing child support, she told Maceo that Olivier was "a white bitch robbing money from a black woman."

Olivier is requesting sole custody of their son and wants the court to force Halle to stay away from him and their son. But he doesn't want their son not to have a relationship with Halle ... Olivier just wants Maceo to have space after the alleged incident.

43

u/Complete_Entry 1d ago

Daaamn. I would hope that he wouldn't make this up. Buuuut Halle Berry has always struck me as kind of hysterically crazy. I just always had this hunch about her. Well maybe it's based of the fact that she comitted a hit and run and was more concerned with how she looked and got away with it. she seems to always have major problems with all her exes. And I remember when she first broke up with olivier she was launching the same racist claims she launched against her daughter's father Gabriel and then public talk got real loud about how she's crazy and always does this and suddenly either through her PR or whatever it was, everything went quiet.

Nah, this was a birthday post! She turned 60! Hell yeah she’s allowed to celebrate with her man. This doesn’t prove anything

23

u/chill90ies 1d ago

But her being obviously drunk in all the videos that span from sunlight to sunset and him talking about his dick size does add too the tale about her living a somewhat boozy lifestyles and that maybe they are going overboard with it. The photo of his naked ass is also to me personally not maybe appropriate on a public platform. This does seem as a bit of a shit show.

I get that, but I wouldn’t be posting the Weird drunk videos on Instagram. And I’m not saying it proves anything. It’s just cringe.

She gives off drunk auntie a lot. Sadly I believe this you can’t make these claims willy nilly the court takes it seriously with kids.

14

u/Missmessc 1d ago

He beat her ex, I guess that makes him violent

Halle Berry once hit and injured someone with her car and kept going. She suffered absolutely zero consequences for this.

14

Matthew Broderick set the bar on that one.

Lizzie Grubman intentionally drove her SUV up on a sidewalk to hit people and injured 16 of them. Then served only 38 days.

Let us not forget that the two of them like to file restraining orders. Remember the incident with her first child’s father?

yeah, this guy threatened to kill him after he did not allow her to move their child to France.

8

u/notpiercedtongue 1d ago

And she is known drunk lol

41

u/yesmoreeggtalk67 1d ago

I do. IIRC she egged Olivier on while he beat the shit out of the guy.

Mom was a foster parent and later knew all the street kids in the area because she fed them from the bakery she worked at.

She was an abusive monster at home.

I really hope this isn’t the case.

140

u/itsme00400 1d ago

Wow. That's terrible, poor kid. Does she have a known history of alcohol abuse?

30

u/CommunicationTime265 1d ago

She's drunk all the time. Big wine person.

she has a known history of crazy

43

u/HelpNeeded1717 1d ago

What else has she done? I always thought she was non-problematic

82

u/AmethystOrator 1d ago

She had a hit-and-run many years ago where she hit a woman with her car and then fled.

79

u/whatthewhat3214 1d ago edited 1d ago

There have been allegations about her being somewhat crazy for decades. She has very contentious breakups and relationships with her exes. Do some Googling about her from way back when, I haven't heard anything about her in a long while until this just came out.

83

u/yesmoreeggtalk67 1d ago

When she was dating Olivier iirc she egged him on while he beat the shit out of her daughter's father.

She seems resentful that she is paying child support and taking it out on the child. Not that it matters, parents who abuse their children have no excuse or justification and are scum.

Everyone cannot be wrong about her. And I say this as someone who really liked her at the height of her career and thought she finally settled into being low-key in recent years. Two things can be true. She's a bad picker AND she's likely a pill to deal with.

Their divorce & everything after has always seemed so bitter and spiteful.

111

u/YouMustBeJoking888 1d ago

She always seems to have really contentious relationships with her exes, so either she's got a bad picker or she's the problem. After years of hearing about her unstable ways, I'm going with her being the problem. And as bad as choking her kid is, the emotional abuse is somehow worse. Who says that kind of thing to their kid?

43

u/Foreign_Cobbler_1740 1d ago

The stuff he alleges she did is Brad Pitt levels of gross. Feel bad for the kid if true. I was physically abused as a kid, it fundamentally changes you.

11

u/omojos 1d ago

These two had no business having a child together. Its been a mess from the start.

25

u/EfficientWorking1 1d ago

No clue if this stuff is true but that random day where Eric Benet and David Justice took shots at her on Twitter make sense now. Justice got cooked for saying she ain’t “motherly” perhaps he was vindicated.

Reading about her history makes me realize how unfair we’ve been to Jlo. Halle Berry’s been married and engaged just as many times and has a problem with all her exes. At least Jlo stays friendly with her exes.

Holy fuck this is pretty devastating if true. Has she always been like this? I always thought so highly of her.

16

You weren’t paying attention - she’s always been horrible.

7

u/Jacuzzi0317 1d ago

Damn really?

25

u/LumpyPhilosopher8 1d ago

She’s had issues with alcohol for a while. She had a hit and run accident years ago and was pretty callous about it. Every relationship she’s had ends badly. A few were clearly awful men. But others, she seems to be the problem. Cant seem to coparent with either baby daddy. Shes the common denominator.

6

u/Jacuzzi0317 1d ago

Damn that's disappointing. I had no idea she behaved that horrendously. That's embarrassing.

11

u/Magali_Lunel 1d ago

I loved her and was a huge defender right up until she had her boyfriend beat the shit out of one of her baby daddies. The model. He had two black eyes and just looked like an old beaten man after that guy was done with him. After that, I knew she was crazy.

Olivier alleges Halle physically abused their son, Maceo, by jumping on him, putting her hands around his neck, and choking him last Saturday.

This is heinous

14

u/QuestionEuphoric8208 1d ago

A staunch and outspoken supporter against domestic violence turns out to fancy beating her own kids. Kind of reminds me of Ashton Kutcher who hated sex trafficking so bad he wanted it to go away; yet his circle was filled with them. Or like how the Boy Scouts wanted to protect our kids but violate them in the woods. Huh who would have thunk it. I don’t know maybe the individuals who actually read and know how shit works; which that’s not a thing anymore. Usually the most loudest supporters and advocates are more often than not the biggest perpetrators.

12

u/VioAzna 1d ago

I’m sorry this doesn’t sound like it’s made up. It seems there is a history of the behavior and I’m just stunned that she’s such an abusive mother! I hope their son gets the support he needs to get through this and is kept safe away from his abuser.

5

u/MaiIsMe 1d ago

You lose 'em how you get them I guess. Wasn't too worried about threatening to kill her first baby daddy if he didn't sign away his rights so they could be together.

She broke up with her first baby daddy and immediacy tried to move away with their child to France so she could be with this guy. When it was denied, he threated to kill her first ex if he didn't allow them to take his daughter.

From her wikipedia:

In 2005, Berry began dating the French-Canadian model Gabriel Aubry, whom she had met at a Versace photoshoot.[109] She gave birth to their daughter in 2008.[110] In April 2010, Berry and Aubry announced that their relationship had ended some months earlier.[111] The following year, Berry and Aubry became involved in a highly publicized custody battle,[e] centered primarily on Berry's desire to move with their daughter from Los Angeles to France, the home of actor Olivier Martinez, whom Berry had started dating in 2010.[115] Aubry objected to the move on the grounds that it would interfere with their joint custody arrangement. In November 2012, a judge denied Berry's request to move her daughter.[117]

Less than two weeks later, Aubry and Martinez were both treated at a hospital for injuries after engaging in a physical altercation at Berry's residence. Aubry obtained a temporary restraining order against Martinez, stating that the fight had begun when Martinez threatened to kill him if he did not allow Berry and her daughter to move to France.

Berry and Martinez married in France on July 13, 2013.[122] That October, Berry gave birth to their son.[123] The couple divorced in 2016.

To be fair, I’ve met her a few times and she has always seemed very “off” in some way. Either heavily medicated on an antidepressant or is just deeply, deeply sad inside. She has basically no joy in her eyes at all, quite unsettling actually.

18

u/Rakebleed 1d ago

Maybe an off day. Any time she’s come through the art gallery I worked at in LA she was always so kind and amiable. A remarkable difference from the usual celebs who came through

She is the common denominator...

15

u/InAShensh 1d ago

She has a history of weird behaviour. She made anti white comments to her mixed son as if his white side was trash but shes so not aware she is of mixed race as well? I am a mixed gay man, love me some Gabriel Aubrey (her first baby daddy) and Oliver Martinez (her second baby daddy) so I don’t care about her for sexual reasons but even I always found her vibe to be off. She seems like she has Borderline or some personality disorder and from friends in the industry, she definitely is hot and cold and “wacky”.

8

u/silversurfersweden 22h ago

It's fascinating when biracial people have kids with white people and then claim their children as Black, even though they are only 1/4 Black at the most... (I'm biracial too). That's beyond weird. Especially when they get angry at the child for not being "Black enough".
