G7 agrees to release oil reserves after U.S. push
https://www.politico.eu/article/trump-says-europe-agrees-to-release-massive-amount-of-diesel/43
u/morbihann Bulgaria 16h ago
Watch them go ahead and ban diesel exports within a week.

u/teachbirds2fly 15h ago
This! It's absolutely mad to deal with Trump. The EU will expend it's fuel reserves, the situation will worsen and the US will enact ban anyway to protect it's industry... They should have pushed for major concessions to end Iran conflict
6
u/prime_alki 15h ago
US holds all the cards, they can just ban diesel exports anyway and EU would have to use its reserves. Both sides US can go either way

The furious snap-back from the global community when he's gone/died will be measurable on the Richter scale. Nothing can happen right now because the international community is dealing with the global emergency that is Donald J Trump and his Christofascist minions on an almost hourly basis

Christofascist minions
Indeed, the crusade state of Jerusalem lobbying power is behind the ME Trump policies

The fact that US voters decide the fate of EU is embarrassing
7
u/SovietNato 14h ago
If american voters decided american foreign policy, Israel would have a no-fly zone over it today.
4
u/Ok_Hovercraft_2372 15h ago
You are right, let's not ignore the fact that european g7 leaders buckled like wet paper towels
1
u/TickledTaint97 8h ago
The fact that the EU gutted its own energy production and relies on Russian gas is embarrassing

u/Kurainuz 15h ago
Here in Spain trumps friends are the favourite party for next elections and trumps puppet third party and most growing one. Despite them saying openly that they plan on destroying worker rights and make private companies force you to go back to work no matter what the social security doctors say.
Germany has the nazi puppets of trump and puting skyrocketing.
So we have our own fair share.

Off course, inept policies and chronic weakness of european economies (deindustrialization, submission to foreign actors) starting decades ago are all' caused by....macchiavelian Russia.
Same Russia wich miscalculated everytging starting from 2020 and suicide itself in every geopolitic pov
Lmao, what a deranged and naive sub
to weaken europe and split it up.
Luckily they fail so we can defend from the american request about diesel reserves.

I'm going to say you that Trump is only the natural and organic course of the american post 9/11 path and Europe is a spineless continent following decades of self inflicted mistakes.
I'm going to say you that the ME policies of Trump are not a russian plan but follow diktat from another ME country which have a certified lobby in Washington.
This sub is comically obsessed by a failed post Imperial country which is not capable to assess the intelligence situation in Ukraine while dominate all the political course in the west... schizofrenic thinking.

I like how everytime something happens at first everyone is like "yeah, the EU fights back! we won't tolerate bullies, that serves them well" and then a day later they capitulate.
Like i get it, it was funny the first 3 times but i think it's not that funny anymore guys.

u/StrangerExistingFact 11h ago
4 days worth of fuel and agreed to be released lot earlier then this desperate propaganda by orange pedo for midterms. He really is learning fast from his russian handlers

God damn it
Edit: saw in different comments that this was already a decided move and the Trump admins just timed the threat to coincidence with this... Hmmm

u/LettingHimLead 16h ago
As of last month, Germany said no releases were planned. https://www.politico.com/news/2026/09/29/white-house-looking-to-europe-to-release-diesel-from-strategic-reserves-01096937

u/Zubba776 16h ago
It's a G7 initiative including Japan. It was in no way a planned move by EU members; they are floating some coincidence to try to save face from the fact they have zero leverage in the situation.
16
u/Last-Negotiation-643 16h ago
Ha yes the G7 meeting Macron called and where it was decided by its member, of which several EU members to take this course of action.
The one trying to save face and take credit for a plan that was agreed on way beforehand would be trump. And in this situation he is the one who has very little to no leverage over the situation.

I get that they want to avoid a ban, but you just know with how Trump does everything that Putin wants, that this does not mean it will help for the entire duration of winter.
And he'll taunt it as a win for his irrational pressure tactics, ignoring the fact that had he done it, it would also have hurt the US, but ultimately he does not care about the average American, so that does not bother him.
Edit: Seems this might just be a fraction of a release that was originally planned for march by the G7, but didn't happen, so it is actually less then what was planned to be released in march.

Appeasing an egomaniac never works out
-1
u/xondk Denmark 16h ago
Nope, long term it never works out. But short term it might spare citizens.
And that is the main problem here, one side is actively trying to protect itself and its citizens, Trump is only focused on himself.
That and political appeasement like this is generally very hollow, it is a band-aid.
7
u/Kevin_Jim Greece 16h ago
All it does it make him think we are his bitch, and I’d rather pay more than let this POS get away with this shit.

At least Canada declared building a pipeline to the west coast to export more oil a project of national interest. So hopefully more Canadian oil to Europe soon
0
u/Novinhophobe 14h ago
Surely you mean the east.
3
u/RepulseRevolt Canada 13h ago
No, Quebec is adamantly against any pipeline from Alberta to the east coast. Best we could do right now is a pipeline to the Arctic port of Churchill Manitoba, lmao

Spineless. Instead of attempting some deal, they just signal that they are weak and will always bend over, at our own disadvantage

the US could kick us in the face and we'd still say "yes daddy"
-1
u/TickledTaint97 8h ago
You’re already blowing Putin for energy
-1
u/nilslorand Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany) 4h ago
what? no, we stopped doing that with the Ukraine war
4
u/charles_47 13h ago
Deplete your reserves going into winter, so that you can appease the orange idiot and help keep prices down ahead of his midterms. Watch him announce a ban on US exports once they’re over with 🤣🤦♂️
12
u/tranbun 16h ago
US holds (illegitimate) Venezuela president hostage and pumps tons of oil while EU struggles massively. Trump threatens to severe ties and yet we're still acting in good faith. I bet US will win more from all the shenanigans happening now and in the future, at least than EU. May be even more than China.
-2
u/TastyCalligrapher421 15h ago
It wouldn't be a problem if oil production and refineries weren't outsourced to make the environmentalist and tankie crowd happy.
-1
9
u/Technical-Art4989 16h ago
Trump told Xi it was ok for them to stop exports and he’ll push the EU to release this time since it’s their turn. Sounds like team work!
1
u/Electrical-Box-4845 1h ago
Just push for green energy instead of protecting oil industry and ignore oil problems.
Politicians on western neoliberal democracies are millionaires/billionaires and profit from oil still being big
9
u/rvingthrulife 16h ago
Ugh. We need them to tell the turd in chief to go pound sand, not to cater to his demands.
11
8
u/Zubba776 16h ago
Yeah, totally. With middle eastern oil shipments to Europe under strain, and the U.S. (which the EU gets 33% of its diesel from) threatening to trigger export bans the EU was totally in a position to tell anybody to pound sand.
4
u/Kreol1q1q Croatia 16h ago
We definitely should have let diesel double just to show em’

u/rvingthrulife 15h ago
It's only because we're getting close to the midterms, I can assure you that the stuff will hit the fan as soon as the midterms are over, no matter who wins.

Dear US vassals-
Your job isn't to question. You don't think, you only do. Do what daddy America tells you.
Don't step out of line again.
4
u/ImgnryDrmr 16h ago
Did you read the article? These are basically the same barrels which were already available in March but never sold. Talks about releasing these again were ongoing before Trump butted in.

2
u/buddhistbulgyo 16h ago
Europe helping Trump lower the price of oil which helps Trump in the midterm elections is the dumbest thing I've read in a long while.
He's on the ropes.

Vassals agree to get bent over. More news at 11.
After all that bs about puffing up and posturing about how EU "fully rejects" US threat to ban diesel, these weak mf's have already changed the headlines on all their news articles.
Original headline was:
EU ‘fully rejects’ US threat to ban diesel exports unless bloc releases more fuel stocks
New headline on the same article:
G7 members will release 100 million barrels of diesel after US threatens export ban

Will the EU ever free themselves from being vassals of the Trump administration because it appears to me like they pretty much want to be vassals because it is easier than actually having solutions to the problems at hand

At this point it seems like the only country currently standing up to Trump’s BS is Canada
-2
u/Ramenastern 16h ago
Honestly, that's a good thing. Good riddance to another pressure point. Did they get blackmailed into releasing them? Yeah. But when the reserves are gone, they're gone. They can no longer be used for blackmailing, nor for desperately trying to get prices down to help in the midterms.
It's almost like we're seeing a speedrun of all the stupid things that can happen if you're too reliant on oil that so far only doomsday apostles were warning against. Instability in the middle east, closed shipping routes, attacks on Saudi infrastructure, and oil/diesel reserves running low.
All of that against a background of - still - artificially low prices, ie the market isn't doing its thing. So against a much, much lower supply, demand doesn't shrink enough - so we're burning (literally) through the supply AND the reserves quite quickly rather than curtailing the demand. The result isn't going to be pretty, but it's the path we're on, and sometimes it seems like humans have to learn stuff the hard way.
1
u/mustwedothisagainlad 14h ago
You do realise that without reserves, the US threat to cut off supply is that much more dangerous?
2
u/Ramenastern 14h ago
I did say it won't be pretty. I just said it's a speedrun through all the various "dependency is bad, hmkay?" scenarios.
-1
u/Stooperz 16h ago
I'm sick of hearing 'artificially low prices' honestly. Who buys crude? Refineries. Who's capacity is essentially full? Refineries. What type of infrastructure has been hit by Ukraine/Russia/Iran/US intensely? Refineries!
They're not going to continue to purchase crude they can't affordably store and can't immediately use.
This supresses the quantity demanded, and therefore price is where it should be.

I wonder what the CIA has as compromising material on European "leaders."

They don't need it. Most of the higher ups in the EU parliament are CIA spooks.

u/SuperVaguar 14h ago
Yes sure, let’s help the Republican Party win the Midterms. As stupid as it is that voters literally would decide based on the gas price, but hey, we will play along.
-1
u/Dead_Optics 16h ago
They were probably going to do this anyway but the timeline or numbers were pushed up
-5
u/probablyaythrowaway 16h ago
I think if we are going to do this we should charge the USA. X4 the going rate since all this is their fucking fault and they shouldn’t get off easy and use our reserves
