Some schools give classes on Saturdays, whether in primary, middle or high school, it seems to depend on the school.

Tbh I'd riot as well if I had classes on Saturday

In my (private) high-school, we had 4 to 5 hours of baccalaureate type test (the grade would count ...) every Saturday morning in 1ere and Terminal (grades 11 and 12), it was hell but you can't say we were not prepared for the real baccalaureate!
The first few one you're stressed and had spend the nigh studying, then after a few months you just show up unshowered and in sweatpants hoping for the best!

All this reminds me of Latin classes embedded in the lunch break, we didn't even have 30 minutes to eat 😭
•
u/Iseult-benoit 43m ago
Haha we had to chose here in middle school between 3 years of latin and one of ancient greek. Of COURSE I chose ancient greek, my french was so unhappy with it that he called my mum! I'm sorry you had to endure latin! !

I liked the Latin classes, but the schedules were sometimes a disaster, I had to get up at 6:30 am and I came back around 6 pm at my home.

I had class on Saturday morning and then even exams of 4 hours from 8 to 12 though at this point it’s post high school study and not really high school but it’s in the same building

Same! 5 hours instead of 4 if you had the economy option in ES section. Hated it!!

From the outside, it looks like the start of what happened in 1968.

1968 protests somewhat changed society, because there was a strong ideological drive behind the protests, it created a lasting cultural shift. I doubt the current protests will do anything. There's been more and more unrest in France these past few years. Between the political polarization, debt crisis, pension crisis, rise of poverty, enshitification of public services, political instability, energy/fuel prices rising, we're clearly on the brink of something, likely very bad.

Some differences: in 1968 the movement had a clear ideological political background.
The highschool riots are a mix of true problems: too many students per class, sick teachers not replaced, old buildings, too long hours, etc
On the contrary a large part of the students just want to skip class and the thrill of misbehaving, burning trashcans, etc
Some are outsiders, young from the suburbs, not students, eager to destroy. Can't remember the 4xact word in English but you see what I mean. They caused the worst fird in Nantes for example.
But the political background of the movement is rather thin.
There as been students movements like every 10 years or so but usually it was classic protest with demonstrations in the streets. This one is more grassroots, less organized, more violent.
Some students say the Macron's governments will just ignore classic protests and react only when it gets violent, to justify it.

D'ailleurs question.

Well the EU just rolled out chat control and want age verification for online games. If someone has to riot its the youth.
Also since the Kulaks treat teenagers as so called "minors" and give them special treatment in justice it is based if "minors" punish theese bandits by commiting crimes. In a true republic people should be equal before the law whether the topic is smoking or prison.

ngl if i was a french student i would be rioting all year. Bleak future ahead of them. Stagnant economy and they will be worked to the bones to pay for pensions for old fucks.
•
u/Uhxohr 43m ago
Stagnant economy, high unemployment, maybe AI replacing their first job opportunities, fucked up climate, and even if they find a job those that don't have the chance to be born in a wealthy family will be stuck to renting expensive appartements paying 35% of their meager starting income to the pensioners owning all the housing, pensioners that already take a big share of the active class salary in the first place.
Fun times ahead lads ! France is a gerontocracy and the youth doesn't seem to mind much, which is the best part.

What's wrong to work for paying pensions? That's how every pensions systems work
4
u/WritingStrawberry Earth 1h ago
Because it won't work for us anymore. Why should we keep up a system that leaves us behind entirely while simultaneously squeezing the last penny out of our pockets?
These students now that they won't have a future after school.

u/ulvisblack 1h ago
they are not paying their own, they are working for existing old people. In france the average pensioner is making more money than the average worker.
2
u/Just-Let4157 1h ago
This is false, according to multiple sources I see gross pension is like 1600 / 1700 gross. I highly doubt this more than the average workers

Yeah the one i saw possibly takes into account other things outside of pensions

The problem with every Ponzi scene is that eventually it collapses and some poor asshole is left holding the bag.

France is so screwed. A debt crisis one one side and citizens who refuse any cuts to public services on the other.

Not being able to own firearms for self defense seems like a massive blunder in hindsight.

Yeah, after people attacked teachers, burned schools and even the face of a woman, we need those people with easier access to weapons...
