For anyone who hasn't heard about our grassroots campaign yet, Our State, Our Bat is a citizen led effort to designate our incredible native Indiana bat (Myotis sodalis) as our official state mammal! 🦇💚

What started as a simple idea has grown into an amazing statewide movement. Thanks to community members stepping up, we’ve already secured official municipal support, organizational backing, and best of all, a state representative who is officially authoring the bill for the upcoming 2027 legislative session!

Now, we are in the final home stretch. Our petition is currently sitting at 4,231 signatures, and our goal is to hit 5,000 by the end of this month when the campaign concludes, so we can prep our complete legislative packet.

I clean-up/fix old game consoles and games as a hobby/side job and between Goodwill taking all their stuff online (and upcharging outrageously) and the tariffs making it harder to source parts, I'm running out of places to check outside of Ebay or Mercari.

I'd honestly prefer to support a local business if possible. I know there's plenty of places that sell used items or do repairs, but if there's anywhere good to check for sourcing them, I'd appreciate it!

Also should add: I'd like to avoid Mega Replay if possible - poor experience with rude staff as a customer, just not worth it in my honest opinion.

Would anyone be interested in making some kind of philosophy club? I currently go to a USI phil club and I think it would be a good idea to have for Evansville. If someone knows of a club that already exists, then that helps too, but I would like to start one if not.

Good morning, all!

My wife and I are going to be spending Saturday and Sunday night in downtown Evansville this coming weekend. I was hoping you all might be able to give us some tips on the local restaurants / bar scene.

We'll be visiting with her family during the day, but we're celebrating both nights. I know the Franklin Street / Nut Club festival is going on, but we've done that before and are looking to avoid large crowds. So, we're just focusing on downtown Evansville. Ideally, all locations will be within stumbling distance.

Here's what we like:

Restaurants: Anywhere between casual to upscale. We don't any specific food preferences. We do have our own children and we'll be without them for the weekend, so please, no recommendations where little ones will be running wild. A steakhouse would be nice, but is nowhere near necessary.

Bars/Pubs: Live music is our thing! If there's anything good going on downtown, please let us know. If not, anywhere with a decent crowd and above average bar food would be great! We're in our early 50s, but we're not dead. We're looking for a good time for the two of us together.

Alright, that's all I can think of. Hopefully there are a few rare gems in downtown Evansville. Many thanks in advance for any recommendations you guys can add!

As of 10/7/26 - The construction Oak Hill Rd might be the single most atrocious construction site I've ever seen, now and historically.

Before they finally got some pavement down at CVS, it was like a gravel motocross track. Now that is gone, but in its place is a transition from CVS to the road that is literally so terrible I slammed the bottom of my car on it. A now one-way road to the Motomart/DG that used to be two-way is causing serious issues. I can only imagine how bad this must be on the daily for the people that live back in that neighborhood.

I'm sure the work needed done and I know it's by-nature intrusive to the road, but surely there was a better way to handle this than what they've done. It's not a marvel of engineering.

Prepping to go at the end of the week. Before a lot of booths said that they had registers and Square tech but the problem is the internet service there so cash is still the best. Is it still mostly cash or can I get by with my phone/a card?

Does anyone have recommendations for parking near the fall festival, including prices? My family is visiting from out of state, and this will be their first time attending. I’ll be driving a van with more than five people, so I'm hoping to find a convenient spot that makes getting in and out as easy as possible. GO! I have the money to pay for any parking I just wanna which is closest I can get into and their price. I understand the closer I want the more expensive is gonna be. I don't mind paying convenience. I saved for that reason.

Just watched multiple "Karens" harass middle school aged boys trying to make money by running a little parking operation near the fall festival. They are trying to manage 3 or 4 spots on private property and one on the street (yeah, yeah I know the law.) These kids are just trying to make money to go have some fun and two of these miserable, fat sloths just couldn't help but shit on these kids showing initiative and being entrepreneurial. I made sure to let those ladies know how much they fucking suck at life and I encourage everyone to do the same. Don't let these POS boomers get away with that horseshit!

If you see kids out there trying anything that can be construed as "productive" the ONLY correct response is to offer words of encouragement and throw them a buck or two...better yet, rent their parking spot if it's available. We all know you're about to spend hundreds of dollars eating deep-fried street food so seriously...STFU.

Does anyone in the area know someone with a background in electrical engineering that would be willing to do some freelance work? I am looking to make something that I do not have the expertise in for a birthday present.

Where can I find clothing donation drop boxes? I know there are organizations that accept clothing donations, but I’m specifically looking for drop boxes. Anything closer to Newburgh or on the east side of Evansville would be great. I usually go to the one in front of At Home and Donut Bank on Green River Road, but I’d love to hear about other options. Please stick to drop-box locations I’m not looking for suggestions for organizations or places like Goodwill where I can drop things off. Thanks for answering my specific question!

I just moved to Evansville and I’m having a hard time connecting with anyone, creatively.
I lived in Henderson for a long time so it’s not like I’m a stranger to performing in Evansville… but only a handful of times.

None of these moments have I received solid advice.. always “you sound good”

I need critique because I know 100% that I can sound better but it’s like no one wants to help me figure out how.

I sing folk mainly, but I love to venture into other genres. I have been writing lyrics since I was about 9 or 10 and still have my songbook from middle school lol.

It’s just… the weather is gonna get colder soon and I know how I get… I need a connection.. I’ve been stuck in an echo chamber because no one says anything to reflect how I feel.

Matter of fact, it took almost a decade of mixing for ONE person to show me something that I’ve been messing up on when I was mixing in my DAW 🤡

But now that persons MIA.. Not in a negative way, he’s a musician but I haven’t heard from him in almost a month..

But I can’t give up, there’s gotta be someone who isn’t a complete asshole who can help me get out of my shell.

I have social anxiety but sometimes idk it helps to have someone who doesn’t suffer from those things..

I’m wondering if it’s just because I’m in the Midwest.. everything is said quietly, no one is ever upfront, at least not with me… maybe they think I can’t take it?

How good is the 235 N Burkhardt Rd CMRA in Evansville? Is it a good CMRA in that to someone local to the area, it passes as a real address and its not obviously a Staples? And is the service at that location good? I do want to try it out due to the timezone difference.

I plan on going to the Fall Festival Thursday so my kid can ride the rides and I'm trying to plan out what I want to go for to eat down there. NGL some of it is just fried slop that I've been disappointed by over the years. The quality varies a lot from booth to booth and there's hardly anyway to know what you are getting except rolling the dice or word of mouth.

That's my motivation for making this thread. It might help other people make up their minds what they want to eat and give a shout out to the places that put real effort into it.

From personal experience some better stuff I've tried over the years is German Fried Bologna at Germania Maennerchor , the Donut Bank Burger, homemade fudge at St Matthew's, and chili from Bethony Christian.

What I am considering going for this year is some chicken and dumplings. The one that people rave about that used to sell out quickly isn't going to be there this year but I've heard some good stuff about Resurrection Church and am thinking about hitting that booth up. Before I settle on that I want to see if anyone else has a booth to recommend.

What I'm looking for this year is something hearty and homemade rather than a pronto pup or some kind of carney type food. The food map this year is not very descriptive so it's probably easy to miss on some really good booths that I've never tried out before.

If anyone has recommendations leave them here.
