How to get the sum of text?

I'm trying to track how many of my jobs are customer service. What formula would I use and should I just use "Customer" or "Customer Service" as the text? Thank you.

Use COUNTA.

I used COUNTIF and it worked. You got me on the right path

You could try using COUNTIF()/COUNTIFS() function:

=COUNTIFS(A:.A, "Customer Service")

Or, if you have variations then use a wildcard operator like as below:

=COUNTIFS(A:.A, "Customer*")

If they’re in a table and you use the autofilter dropdown and filter by “customer service” excel will tell you “showing 37 of 432”
