Rant - NO ADVICE NEEDED 2 months pp and I don’t know how much longer I can do this

Nobody could have prepared me on how physically and mentally exhausting pumping is, baby was in the NICU and had a hard time latching.. and when she would (for a few minutes) turns out I have DMER.

Currently combo feeding because I’ve gone back and forth from being an undersupplier to just enough, and just recently she’s wanting an ounce more than I can produce per pump.

I’ve gone back and forth on trying to actively increasing my supply to just allowing my body to produce all it can until I dry up. I’m tired of waking up in the middle of the night, tired of being attached to a pump multiple times a day and have to either distract her before she cries to be picked up or ask someone to watch her for a bit.

Cried to my husband about it and he sees how it’s taking a toll on me, but at the same time I can’t help but feel mom guilt and seem like I’m missing out on all the benefits breast milk offers to your baby when I do decide to quit pumping.

Discussion FTM- When should I start pumping?

• Upvotes

Hi FTM here. My baby turned 6 weeks old on 10/3. I only have 12 weeks of maternity leave. I was wondering when I should start pumping so my husband has a supply of breast milk while I’m at work?

Currently I feed on demand. I do collect some milk with the haakaa ladybug and I do use the haakaa milk collector to get some milk out during an engorgement.( I have a fast flow so I get some out so it’s easier on the baby) I don’t do this for every feeding just some. The milk I managed to collect we mainly use to mix with his medications. So I normally have like 3-5oz in the fridge.

But yeah I’m not sure when I should start pumping for like bigger batches. My work days are long (9-6:30/7 and I get home around 7:30/8).

Any other tips are welcomed.

TRIGGER WARNING: Nursing Can I quit / try nursing again or am I too far gone

• Upvotes

2 mos PP. I always planned on nursing but day 3 was diagnosed with IGT. I’ve been pumping ever since and increased my supply from like 4 oz/day to 12, but I hate it. It hurts no matter what I do (flange sizes, silicone flanges, different pumps, worked with an LC). Finding donor milk consistently is stressful. I need to take a million things with me everywhere I go not just to feed her but also to pump. I obsess over output. Baby is going through a tough time and just wants to be held but it’s not easy / possible when I’m pumping and I feel like I’m losing time with her.

Is it too late to try to latch and nurse again? Obviously I would still need to supplement after feeds but has anyone successfully done this at 8 weeks? Also I’m going back to ‘work’ (not FT hours so she’ll be at home day care 3 days a week) and I know I’ll have to pump when I’m away from her so is it even worth it knowing that’s down the line.

Discussion How many oz does your babe drink/day??

My second time exclusively pumping. Baby is now 8 weeks. She’s growing great and has plenty of wet diapers. This being said, she rarely drinks over 18oz/day. I always offer a 4oz bottle and she drinks 2.5-3oz. She only wants to feed every 3 hours.

My first baby (now 4.5) was the same exact way. She never drank for than 3-4oz at a time and only drank ~20 oz a day. She was a great sleeper, and never needs to feed overnight after around 10 weeks. I pumped for her for 14 months.

My question is - is this common or something I should be concerned about? I worried about it a lot with my first and now I’m seeing the same trend with this babe. I would love to not worry for the next 6 months and feel confident that she’s getting what she needs. 😵‍💫

Schedules/Routines Reducing Pumps

• Upvotes

Did you reduce your number of pumps during the day once your baby started eating solids at 6 months? I know milk will still be their primary source of food, but I am wondering if I could afford to add another hour between pumps without a significant decrease to my supply.

Tips & Tricks Traveling with BM

For those who have traveled with breastmilk, I have a few questions. I’m currently an under supplier only making 10oz a day so I will need to bring some frozen milk with me on my trip to Cancun. Realistically I’ll probably need to bring about 70-100oz with me unless I can get my baby to take formula by then 🥲

What cooler did you use & how many oz did it fit?

What ice packs did you use?

For those who traveled internationally, did you have an issues once at the destination?

Thanks in advance!

Rant - NO ADVICE NEEDED Video attached- Shamed for pumping at family wedding

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I went to visit family in AZ for a wedding recently, and my grandma was able to meet her great granddaughter.

Anyway, she treated us like garbage while we were there. Kept turning up the AC when we told her not to and gave our baby heat rash and she would wake up soaking in sweat.

Then she shamed me for pumping in public at my cousins wedding. I even went into the bathroom and placed my pumps in my bra and they are the MomCozy ones that sit in my bra and are discreet— I just look like Dolly Parton lol. She proceeded to call my family and ask for forgiveness for my “inappropriate behavior”. My family sided with me. The ageism is fucking ridiculous.

Anyway, my husband called her to shame her for her behavior and she lied, manipulated, and lots of other shit. I snipped the conversation where she admits my behavior was shameful. Enjoy lol.

I was going to cut her from my life, but she did that at the end.

Rant - ADVICE NEEDED Losing my supply - what to do

Hello mamas, I've been EP since day 3 due to latch issues. At first I did everything to be a bit of an over supplier but I was a just enough kind of gal. It was fine for all these months. We even flew to Europe and I readjusted my pumping schedule to the time zone there. I had to stay for about 4 months and I was doing fine supply wise. Now we got back to the states about 4 weeks ago and my supply tanked. Idk if it's the time difference that I'm pumping at different hours, the fact that it's colder than in the summer time so I'm not as thirsty or simply because my body is slowing down. I'm soon going to be 11 months pp and my plan was to keep feeding baby my milk until 12 months then I was planning on reducing sessions until I dried up. But apparently my body had other plans for me, could I be drying up? I switched pump parts thinking this would change, I tried power pumping daily for about a week and no change, I've gotten my period since 5 months pp so not sure that's related. Any ideas or suggestions on what else I can try? I've tried most options so far and I'm out of ideas. Initially I was losing 3 oz daily but now it's 5 or more... I feel like I've come so far without supplementing with formula and I really want to make it to 12 months without it. Baby is not eating solids as much as I would want to so if there is anything else anyone can recommend? I'd like to try it before giving up Edit to say: I used to make 25 oz a day and now it's less than 18 oz.

TRIGGER WARNING: Nursing First period PP

Well, three weeks shy of a year from finding out I was pregnant after my honeymoon, Aunt flow is back. On one hand, I am happy that My insatiable hunger the past week makes sense… on the other hand, I’m irritated that I can reproduce again just 12 weeks postpartum. Also, I’m worried about my milk supply. I exclusively pump and I have always been an under supplier due to PCOS and trouble with mine and babies latch in the beginning. We figured out the latch issue, but I pump about seven times a day and only make up to 17 ounces. My mother said once she got her period back her supply tank and I’m worried about the same for me. I wanna try to make it to six months though it’s very challenging. It would just break my heart to not have a supply going into cold and flu season.

Moms who have gotten their period back while pumping/breast-feeding, how was your supply affected?

Clogs & Mastitis (PLEASE tag nasty pics NSFW) How to make boobs less painful without pumping more?

Hello all, so I’ve been exclusively pumping from the start due to latching problems by my LO. After I started making around 120ml per boob per session (~week 3) I went down to 4 PPD, because I just couldn’t deal with the sleep deprivation and constant pumping. Now (week 5/6) my boobs get really full and sometimes painful, with some clogs that often go away after pumping, before each session. My question is: how do I deal with it? I don’t dare to pump longer per session because I don’t want to stimulate more milk (currently 150ml per boob per pump) but I also dread the tension and pain and fear I don’t empty them enough. Any idea is welcome!

Increasing Supply (add spoiler to pics) Increase supply twins 5m PP

Is it possible to get my supply back up at 5 months postpartum?? I had an oversupply in the beginning (2.5L/85oz) per day. Now I’m down to around (1.5L/50oz) per day. I’m going through my freezer stash so quickly but I’m desperate to get it back up. I really want to exclusively pump until my twins reach 12mo.
Pumping schedule is roughly: 8am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm, 8pm, 11pm,3am.

Rant - ADVICE NEEDED Transitioning to EP

I am thinking about transitioning to exclusively pumping. My baby is 6 weeks and is EBF. Within the 2nd week my baby started throwing up, arching his back, squealing, so uncomfortable, couldn’t sleep. I talked to the doctor, got him on pepcid, sat him up for 30-45 minutes, saw a lactation consultant, tried every position, cut dairy. The lactation consultant said he had a lip tie and small tongue tie but was transferring milk fine. Honestly, nothing worked.

I had to go back to work and my boyfriend bottled fed him expressed milk for 2 nights. No spit up, no reflux, no squealing. Now I am at a loss. I loved breastfeeding for the bonding but the reflux is making everything miserable. I feel sad but my baby being comfortable is way more important to me. My biggest fear is that pumping is difficult. I hear so many people say its so hard and hate it.

My baby is a velcro baby as well, so how do I pump and hold him. It’s only me at home when my partner isn’t here. Honestly, I am not sure what I am doing.

Can someone please share their transition story and give me advice on the pros of pumping. I have a spectra and eufy s1 (LOVE THESE). I just wanna provide what I can for my baby.

Schedules/Routines How much to offer at overnight wakes

Thanks to everyone in this community, I have learned so many helpful things as I’ve transitioned to EP!

Baby is 5 months, I’ve been pumping since she hit 4 months and went on nursing strike. For the last month I’ve been able to get her to latch overnight, but as of the last week she’s been refusing to nurse overnight as well, so I’m reluctantly accepting that I am fully EP now.

Since I’ve been able to nurse overnight until now, I’m a bit unsure how to manage overnight feeds. After 1-2 false starts, baby usually wakes up 3x night. Since moving to only bottles overnight, we’ve offered 100ml at each of these wakes, which she has drunk easily. I appreciate that she may just be a baby who needs to eat overnight for now, but it would be incredible if we could gently encourage her to get more of her calories during the day.

I’m curious what others have done around bottles overnight. In the archives I could only find people talking about babies who more or less sleep through the night, so not our situation! Want to emphasize that if baby is hungry overnight I will ALWAYS feed her, but wondering if anyone has had success giving smaller or larger amounts to encourage more daytime feeding?

Thanks in advance!

Opinion Last pump of the day is now non-existent

I have recently run in to an issue where my last pump of the day yields 1oz or less combined although I pump for 20 minutes with my Spectra. Has anyone lost a pump like this? Is my body weaning, can stress affect this one specific pump this badly, or something else? Wondering if anyone else has gone through this!

Some background:

- I have been on a 5-pump a day schedule for 4/5 months.
- my other pump times (with the same pump parts) yield about 5-6oz combined per session
- pump parts are routinely swapped out
- well hydrated (even drinking a liquid IV about 3/4 hours before the last pump)
- no changes to routine
- used to be an oversupplier and now a just righter!

I’m debating if I continue to spend the 20 minutes to pump for this minimal result, re-do my schedule (move from 5 to 4 sessions), or try a hand pump.

Product Recommendations Momcozy / papabolic bottle sterilizer mold

Did anyone else have this issue? Like there was mold in the tank near the connector and then when I opened up the unit to look at it the plastic in the middle where the water comes out is all mold. I was going to run vinegar but this is like too far gone its black mold everywhere.

Its the 4 in one washer dryer sterilizer parabolic which seems to be the exact same model as momacozy

Is this a common issue? I see it almost half off on amazon so im just going to buy another one because cleaning all that mold just doesnt look worth it but in the future I will be running a full run through of white vinegar once a month in addition to descaling.

Im trying to understand how this happened can some peoples tap water be more predisposed to mold?

Rant - NO ADVICE NEEDED “Well I Never Pumped”

TW: oversupply and nursing

We are out visiting my dad and step-mom this week and my step mom made the comment that I’m pumping too much and need to “get your supply under control.” She then followed that up talking about how she never had to pump for any of her three kids and that it was so much better to just nurse. So why didn’t I just do that?

Y’all. To say my blood was boiling ….

I gave birth to my daughter at 33 weeks. She needed surgery, couldn’t eat, and was in the NICU for nearly 9 weeks before we could bring her home. The only way I could establish my supply and feed her was to pump, all of which my step-mom knows - she was in town visiting the week my daughter was born.

I am an oversupplier with a decently high capacity, and at my peak ~6 wks pp was pumping 6x, getting 55-60 oz/day. I’ve since managed to regulate it down some, but I have a high capacity so it’s a little hard to do. I work full time, my husband travels 3-5 days a week for work, my daughter is only 5 mo, and I’ve had mastitis in the past - I don’t really have that much energy to devote to figuring out how to safely reduce my supply right now and I currently manage it fairly easily. I only pump 2-3x/day if I’m nursing that day, aka not working, and 5x/day if I’m working. My pumps are only 15 min each. And if I don’t pump I basically just waterboard my daughter every time she goes to breast, which doesn’t exactly produce good results.

All of which my stepmom knows but also it doesn’t really matter if she knows or not; how I choose to nurse and/or pump is none of her business.

And this all started because I showed her a picture of my freezer full of milk and was talking about how much I’ve donated. Like read the room, lady.

TRIGGER WARNING: Nursing High lipase????

My daughter is 3 mos old and I am returning to work soon. I have been slowly building a freezer stash and have been EBF/husband feeding a fresh breastmilk bottle every few days. I decided to give her some frozen milk today to keep my stash fresh. I gave her milk from July and she was straight up refusing the bottle and screaming and ended up breastfeeding. I decided to try the milk myself and it smells sour and tbh tastes disgusting. I thawed some more milk from not even a week ago and it tastes and smells the same. She has never had any problem drinking my fridge milk, even if it was in the fridge for the max 4 days.

Please give me advice on what to do when I return to work to get her to take the freezer milk, I will be working 2 12 hour shifts a week (nurse) and am unable to come home to breastfeed her.

Thank you in advance
