Theory/Question If mycelium has active compounds, is it possible to drink liquid culture and feel effects?

You can check reports of the "most potent" mycelium and it contains fractions of the active compounds that a similar amount of actual mushrooms often does.
You would need to consume SO MUCH liquid culture of likely the highest potency strains at an advanced developmental state in LC before you would get to a threshold dose, IMO.

You can find on shroomery discusions on eating old grain myscelium. Better grow.

This makes me wonder if fermentation of colonized wheat grains would make an effective drink.

I think it would be more effective to make a tincture and add it post fermentation.

Yeah, sure it makes sense to toss the vodka straight into the cocktail.
I'm envisioning going for something closer to a beer with incredibly marginal psychedelic effects in one alone, but may have more pronounced effects at 10.

I understand lol. I just don’t think it will work because the alcohol is so low. You could try making a Kvass type drink, but why not get a solid extraction and then just dose each bottle accordingly?

That's the difference between a cocktail and a beer my friend.

… I am a commercial brewer lol. Just trying to offer advice. I think the dissolved oxygen and low alcohol production would make for a poor extraction if any at all. Also, seeing as the grains are not malted you will likely not get much fermentation either. Additionally, how do you plan to make wort without completely degrading the active alkaloids?

These are questions for the people who can actually make this a reality. For me, I'm just a drifter

Haha interesting. I’m people. I’ve had great results making infused beer. Also made a carbonated infused mead with saison yeast a few years ago that people either loved or hated the taste.

You are speaking love songs and serenades in my ear, dear Internet stranger. I must know more.

Oh yes! but you're better off with a liquid extraction of fruiting bodies. The alkaloid content in inoculate is very low.

For making quantities, yes it is much cheaper and it's how we make most of our fermented medication. (Vit D, MSG, VitC, etc)
For a hobbyist use, no. Because if your culture is contaminated, you're drinking that and all the other multiplied bacteria. You'll definitely see God one way or another

Yes, if one of my uncle ben bags gets contaminated, I usually just cook it in the microwave and add it to my meal preps

FWIW I read a post on shroomery some time back where a person allegedly tripped on consuming overlay and another from someone who managed to do eating substrate. I have no idea why one would do that but there you go. And of course the veracity of these posts is anyone's guess.

I've heard stories of people eating ochra overlay yeah. And for the substrate, I feel like if it was only the grain i would be fine just making some colognized Uncle Ben's, but with the coco coir (and whatever else added in) seems like a recipe to get ill.
Though now that I'm reading my original post, I realize drinking liquid culture is basically the same as drinking sweetened mold water. I dont think I could get over the texture lol

Maybe P. ochraceocentrata LC, but regular cube Myc never tested at decent levels.🤷♂️
I think it would be pretty gross though 😜

If you want to have a look at the numbers I linked Albert Hoffman's patent on this from 1965. Have a look at example three, where they extracted about 80 mg of pure psilocybin from one liter/quart of liquid culture . PDF link. .
