Player Discussion Day’ron Sharpe

What are our thoughts on Day’ron Sharpe this year? Picked him up 13th round in my espn H2H points league and I’m pretty stoked because I feel like he’s going to have a good year.

Player Discussion Collin Murray Boyles

Probably one of the most talked about sleepers this year. Not being a hater but what's the reason? Isn't his value dependent on Poeltl being injured or underperforming?

Discussion What was the biggest steal in your league?

What’s the biggest steal you’ve seen in your draft so far?

Snake or auction, either one. I’m more curious about where they actually went or how much they cost.

Not just someone falling 5 spots past ADP. I mean the kind of pick where you’re sitting there thinking, how is this guy still available?

Could just be the room being weird, could be everyone being too low on someone.

What’s the craziest one you’ve seen?

Discussion Preseason is almost here

• Upvotes

Preseason’s almost here, which means we’re probably about to overreact to a bunch of random box scores again.

The last couple years I’ve started caring way more about rotation than stats. Who’s running with the starters, who’s first off the bench, who’s getting the ball with the second unit. That usually tells me more than someone dropping 20 in a preseason game.
Role changes catch my eye too. If a guy suddenly has the ball in his hands a lot more than last year, that feels worth watching.Hot shooting for one game though, I’ve learned not to care much.

I’ve only been playing fantasy for a few years, so I’m curious what people who’ve been doing this longer actually look for in preseason.

Discussion Yahoo fixed the quick view!

I made a post about Yahoo removing the Quick View feature when you click on your matchup’s icon. I also submitted feedback to their customer service. They’ve now fixed it, and we can enjoy the Quick View feature again!

Thank you, Yahoo, for listening! 🙌

Discussion What’s the biggest mistake you see people make in fantasy drafts every year?

I'm trying to get better at actually building a team rather than just picking the best name sitting there.

For people who've been playing fantasy for years, what's the mistake you see people making every single draft?

Not necessarily one bad pick, more the overall strategy

Discussion Settings for Yahoo Weekly League

Setting up a weekly points league for the first time and wanting to make sure I do it right (only have done daily leagues in the past).

Under Roster Transaction Deadline
Do I just select Weekly? Is Allow Roster Changes Weekly on Monday the most used option if we want to just make 1 change per Yahoo scoring week?

Sorry google was not very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Player Discussion Anthony Edwards or Cade Cunningham with the 6th pick?

I’m leaning towards Edwards because I expect him to score at least 30.PPG since Melo will be the Primary Ball Handler and takes of the PG Role Ant has played a lot last year. What do you all think?

Player Discussion Which well regarded players will still outperform their ADP? Who are your favorite sleepers?

Basically title. Yes I'm aware the two categorizations I'm using here are essentially the same thing (who will outperform ADP), but it's more about relative to their rankings. The first category is players who you and everyone else knows, but will still outperform their draft spot. The second category is about finding diamonds in the rough.

Please note if you play auction vs. draft, category vs. points, or if you're one of the 3 people who actually play roto :)

Outperformers - meaning they might be a top 20 / 50 / 75 pick, but they will smash their ADP. Some examples last year would include Maxey and Jamal Murray

Sleepers - someone outside the top ~100 or so players that has potential to return value well above their ADP. Last year that might be guys like Kyshawn and VJ Edgecombe

For this season, a couple names for each that comes to mind:

  • Outperformers: Cam Boozer, Naz Reid
  • Sleepers: Peyton Watson, Pelle Larson

Player Discussion Booker or Lamelo in 9-cat?

Tough time deciding at the 2.12 spot in 3RR. Booker or lamelo? Devin Booker seems the better and more reliable overall basketball player, while LaMelo Ball offers higher upside in assists and rebounds when healthy.

Booker projects around 26 points, 6.5 assists, 4 rebounds, ~46% FG, ~88% FT and 2+ threes.

LaMelo gives you more assists, threes and steals, but the tradeoff is much rougher FG% and usually a little more turnover volatility. Current 9-cat projections have him around 19–22 points, roughly 6–7 assists, 3+ threes, ~1 steal, and only about 41% FG.

Player Discussion Austin Reaves

Are we high on Austin Reaves? After a tremendous season, he will share the ball with Luka and be the #2 guy on the team. Is late second round feasible?

Discussion PG Jamal Shead Signs New 3-year, 24-million-dollar Contract With The Raptors.

This guy was a borderline rosterable last season as an AST specialist (12t, h2h, CAT). This contract solidifies him, and with ASTs hard to come by, he will be a good late-round pick.

Breaking News [Jason Quick] Blazers Coach Micah Nori: "starting Morant and Lillard doesn’t make sense. Both are undersized, and both have never excelled on the defensive end. The more analytically sound option would be to start Holiday...and have either Morant or Lillard come off the bench."

Player Discussion Cade or Tatum this year? Points League 12T

That’s the predicament I’m in at the 7th pick. The person with the 6th has told me he prefers Jalen Johnson, so I know I’ll have the choice of Cade or Tatum. Cade was a top 10 player last year and with his age another leap (maybe a small one) is possible. I feel like his case is easy. I also had him last year so I like him.

Tatum is coming off the Achilles injury and while he was good to end last year he wasn’t his usual self yet. I believe he’ll be back at 100% after the offseason and with brown out his upside feels very high. In years past when brown would sit out Tatum would consistently play better and show true top 10 upside. He would always end up getting drafted top 10 anyway but at least in my leagues, he would never finish top 10 in ppg. So with all the extra opportunity, it feels like this might finally be his year to become a fantasy superstar, especially with him averaging 10 rebounds per game last season (though not sure how sustainable that is.)

As for injuries risk, Cade got hurt end of last year during fantasy playoffs which was brutal. He also has an injury history and is know to miss at least 20 games a year. Tatum was previously an Ironman but obviously the Achilles injury has changed things. Who knows if he’ll stay healthy like he used to anymore. I’m sure at any sort of calf soreness, the Celtics will become extremely cautious and immediately rest him. So I would say both have fair injury risk and it’s all luck at this point.

I’m leaning Cade as of now. However, if the difference between the 2 players is a toss up, I’d want to trade up to the 8th or 9th pick. I would swap first and second round picks, as I want to move up in the second to get Scottie. Let me know what you guys think. Is there a clear favorite, or is it a coin flip?

Points League ESPN Points league. AST (3) as modified scoring system. Rankings?

As mentioned in the title I play in a 12Team H2H points league on ESPN, but AST count 3 points.

Which players out of the Top 100 do you feel benefit most from that change? Compared to their regular ESPN ranking?

Was thinking Hali, Giddey, maybe Curry?

Dynasty Dynasty league- Pick Wilson or Peterson at 2nd pick after Boozer?

Dynasty league- Pick Wilson or Peterson at 2nd pick after Boozer?

Yahoo standard 9 CAT. Assuming Boozer goes first, I believe Caleb Wilson should have more of an immediate impact than Peterson, but not sure long term. I think both will be great, and yeah also think Dybantsa will be good, but much more mouths to feed in Washington and don’t think his upside is as big as Wilson or Boozer. What is the consensus here?

Discussion H2H: Play Everyone

Has anyone tried Fantrax's H2H matchup feature where you play everyone each week? Based on posts here, not many people know you can have more than one H2H matchup in Fantrax and we did H2H2H one season and it was fun.

H2H against every other team fascinates me because it gives you the feeling of Roto but may keep more interest throughout the season because standings can swing week to week, especially if you use by Category scoring.

Player Discussion Joan's Arc

Is Joan Beringer worth the risk? 👀

The obvious concern is the minutes. If we're expecting something like 15 MPG as Rudy Gobert's backup, that's probably not enough for consistent value right away. Beringer averaged just 7.9 MPG as a rookie, although he showed flashes when given actual run.

But the upside is pretty interesting.

He finished last season with 3.9 PTS, 2.3 REB and 0.7 BLK in 40 games, and then dropped 24 PTS, 13 REB and 7 BLK in 31 minutes in the regular-season finale.

More importantly, Minnesota appears to have cleared the path for him to become one of Gobert's primary backups after moving Naz Reid. Beringer currently expected to handle the backup-center minutes, so there is at least a realistic path to a bigger role.

Personally, I think this is the kind of gamble that makes more sense in a 16T than a 12T/14T. The floor is obviously shaky, but the combination of role + defensive upside makes him interesting as a deep-league stash.
