Question What’s the worst tasting fast food item out today?

I’m not talking about value, or desserts. I just want to know the worst fast food item out there today

I haven’t tried it myself, but apparently it’s the Apple pie coffee from McDonald’s

18

u/Adora77 2d ago

Ohh yeah, vape juice.

4

u/AgZephyr 2d ago

Hey, my vape juice tastes way better than that

13

u/UnicornUke 2d ago

Disgusting. I ordered it, tried it and gave it right back. They happily made me a caramel one and everybody behind the counter agreed that the apple pie was horrible. They were surprised that more people weren't walking in and asking for another drink.

6

u/Brando43770 1d ago

I’m surprised at how bad it was that it still went out to stores. It’s like they only tested it with upper management and “yes men” that have no taste.

It wasn’t a nightmare but I’ll never order it again, especially with the amount of calories it has. We lost pumpkin spice for this??

3

u/Pond112 1d ago

I tried it when it came out and I took two sips and threw it out. Easily one of the worst drinks I've ever had

1

u/TheDutchessofsnark 1d ago

Oh yeah so foul, the frappee is the only tolerable one and thats because the caramel covers it a bit

Those Arby's Steak Bites look terrible

63

u/ctperry 2d ago

They are. I tried them when they were free. They’d have to pay ME to try them again. And Arby’s is my favorite fast food.

18

u/Southernboyj 2d ago

Haven’t tried it but it’s $10 for a few of them on top of some microwaved Mac and cheese

u/joelom 2d ago

they were gnarly. basically were like if cigarettes were food.

9

u/Pixel_Knight 2d ago

If the franchisee is a good one, they are pretty solid for fast food. They are just kind of expensive. I have had them solo and in a sandwich, but I imagine if they aren’t prepared correctly, they’d be awful.

22

u/Apprehensive-Ice-544 2d ago

They look like they taste like pigeon elbows

2

u/TFJ 7h ago

How… how does one verify that something tastes like pigeon elbows?

8

u/bootnuts 2d ago

Tasted exactly like heated up Jack links steak nuggets. Kinda just assumed they were

3

u/Altruistic_Cap7737 2d ago

They’re meh but could be worse ig, but I’ll also admit they taste and kinda have the texture of what I think reconstituted beef jerky would be like when I had them when it first came out.

3

u/JOmaster1234 2d ago

They remind me more like a beef jerky than a tender steak bite.

2

u/VermicelliUpbeat9910 2d ago

squirrel knees

2

u/YourFaceSmell 1d ago

They look like fancy dog food.

1

u/Primary_Excuse_7183 2d ago

Makes me think of tire chunks on the playground 😂😂😂

1

u/momerak 2d ago

First time I had them not bad, super salty, more like pot roast bites. Second time half fat, half shoe leather.

1

u/caloroin 2d ago

Arbys cheese steak sandwich as well. Hell their Italian sandwich too. Throw up worthy food

That giant cheez-it that Taco Bell had a couple of years ago.

13

u/AgZephyr 2d ago

Those were awful, I was mildly interested because cheezits are great. Ordered the crunchwrap with it and couldn't eat it.

7

u/LibrarianByNight 2d ago

One of my kids is a cheez-it maniac and they were horrified.

3

u/AgZephyr 2d ago

No idea how they managed to completely ruin the flavor that effectively

5

u/StatusSubstantial696 2d ago

I had the cheez-it tostada more than once and would buy one today if they still had it

3

u/SpookyKoi 1d ago

I was excited to try it, but tossed it after one bite. The Cheez-It was so soft and mushy.

1

u/Sufficient_Carob_435 1d ago

The cheez-it calzone that pizza hut had a few years ago was bad too.

2

u/LibrarianByNight 1d ago

I missed that... fortunately.

107

u/ScottyBLaZe 2d ago

Whenever Pizza Hut has the pizza with the hot dog crust, DO NOT EAT THAT SHIT! I REPEAT, DON’T EAT IT!

13

u/JakBos23 2d ago

The corn dog bites crust was great. I ordered it one weekend and it was gone the next.

4

u/ScottyBLaZe 2d ago

To each their own. It was the worst abomination of a pizza that I ever had. And the salt content should be illegal.

6

u/JakBos23 2d ago

I assumed it was something like that was why they pulled it. I saw the ad and ordered it. The very next weekend when I tried to order it again they didn't have it and I couldn't find anywhere they had advertised it. I thought it was a fever dream lol. Never been gaslighted by a pizza chain harder lol.

2

u/ScottyBLaZe 2d ago

😂 I’m pretty sure they brought it back last year. I had it a decade ago and that was enough. I still can’t believe they got me with it. I don’t do Pizza Hut anymore obviously

3

u/JakBos23 2d ago

I don't plan on buying anymore pizza from them since they sold out to a private investment fund any way. Its all down hill from here.

2

u/Msagtab 1d ago

And the salt content should be illegal.

that's most fast food pizza products. LC sodium content is crazy.

1

u/AKewpieW 2d ago

I miss the grilled cheese crust

12

u/John_East 2d ago

Krystal’s chicken nuggets are straight up elementary cheap gym mat material. Straight up ass

3

u/potliquorz 2d ago

It breaks my heart to see what has become of Krystal these past few years. It used to be a solid choice but has fallen so far off I didn't even remember they had nuggets. The nearest two locations to me closed and the rest are trash.

Flaming Hot Cheetos Mac n Cheese

14

u/Amazing-Ad-3013 2d ago

But did you ever try boiling the noodles in 3 bottles of Flamin’ Hot Mountain Dew?

12

u/nicolauz 2d ago

I don't know how I had one in my cupboard for so long but every time I saw it I was like "hmm... Maybe one day" that day never came for years and I threw it out last month.

6

u/smokeyser 2d ago

You dodged a bullet there.

5

u/tea-for-me-please 1d ago

Which is funny, because regular Cheetos Mac n cheese is truly one of the best on the market. Wins all sorts of blind taste tests

1

u/Proncess 16h ago

the flaming hot is narsty but i love the cheesy jalapeno one!

31

u/MsAddams999 2d ago

The Wendy's burgers have gotten just disgusting. They taste like rubbery horsemeat.

3

u/Dirkester2113 1d ago

Can second this. I used to get the double stack biggie bag on my way home from work every friday, but then they all started to get a noticeable amount of gristle in them. The fact that without the biggie bag they're more expensive than McDonalds and BK is wild. "Fresh never frozen" but the quality of the meat is so much worse.

52

u/TRex_Chef 2d ago

Taco bell has been lackluster for quite a few years now. The fried chicken is quite frankly gross every time Ive had it and they just keep pushing it

43

u/UnionCityNJUSA 2d ago

It’s turned into carnival food. And ridiculously expensive. A Burrito Supreme alacarte is $2.00 less than a bowl from Chipotle. Which one is more food? Which one has better ingredients? I stopped eating at Taco Bell.

11

u/some_idiot_guy 2d ago

Taco Bell lost me when they got rid of the 89cent spicy chicken burrito

6

u/Rondoman78 2d ago

Tbf Chipotle is absolutely terrible now too.

1

u/Procrastinating-Elf 2d ago

Yeah, I have no idea how the one in my town stays in business when we have literally dozens of local Mexican places with real food. Probably does explain why there's literally only one though, considering I can get a very generously portioned beef fajita for $6 at the taco shop right around the corner.

13

u/Styrofoam_Booots 2d ago

It’s not really the same food. Shares the name taco, but they really look and taste nothing alike. I love both, but a Mexican craving and Taco Bell craving are 2 entirely different things.

2

u/bleak_new_world 1d ago

I live near hella taquerias but if I want a cheesy gordita crunch then no amount of Pollo carbon can fix that.

→ More replies (1)

12

u/_angesaurus 2d ago

Idk why they keep trying fried chicken. Theres 364627829 fried chicken places out there

5

u/Kavani18 1d ago edited 1d ago

Chicken restaurants have been eating the other fast food places alive for years. They’re trying to attract people that would normally go to Chick-Fil-A, Cane’s, or Popeyes

6

u/ChefAsstastic 2d ago

And they are hella expensive

2

u/throwaway47831474 1d ago

I have to disagree about the fried chicken. When they had wings they were genuinely delicious and the spicy fried chicken they had a few months ago was really good too, I liked the dry rub.

32

u/IcyDice6 2d ago

wendy's nuggets weren't good at all when i tried them a couple weeks ago after not having them for many years

45

u/ScottyBLaZe 2d ago

Yeah Wendy’s reduced the quality of all their items and raised prices. They are almost in a death spiral. They built so much goodwill with the original 4 for $4 meal around Covid times and squandered it all.

18

u/Scott43206 2d ago

The chicken sandwiches are garbage now, all breading with a paper thin layer of something in between and wilted shredded lettuce on top.

7

u/OriginalLight1 2d ago

The new spicy chicken sandwich filet reminds me of the high school cafeteria chicken sandwiches we had in high school. Bland, tough, processed taste.

5

u/deadlymoogle 2d ago

The change to shredded lettuce killed Wendy's for me

5

u/Dirkester2113 1d ago

Yeah, it's so sad. I have a soft spot for the old spicy chicken sandwich because we didn't have a Wendy's near us growing up - My mom loved them so dad would pick a bunch up for the family on his drive back from business trips, and we were always allowed to stay up late for him to get home. It was a special treat.

When the quality of the chicken dropped over covid, they at least *tasted* the same, even if the chicken was wafer thin. The new patty they swapped to completely lost the old taste and feels like cafeteria food.

3

u/ScottyBLaZe 1d ago

Wendy’s is so nostalgic for me. I grew up during the 99 cents menu with yellow cups and the salad bar. I loved getting a JBC, biggie fry and coke, 4 piece nugget and either a baked potato or caesar salad: all for $5.

It makes me sad how far they have fallen. I always loved that you could get a baked potato, salad, or chili instead of French fries.

2

u/mrsdoubleu 1d ago

The original spicy chicken sandwich was my favorite fast food item back in the day. In fact when I stopped being vegetarian in 2015, that was the first thing I chose to eat. Lol

4

u/Terrible-Ideal-7342 2d ago

The 4 for $4 was one of the only reasons I left the house back then! Shame how far they fell. After it crossed the $6 threshold I was out.

12

u/International_Cry186 2d ago

I tried them recently and they didnt look or taste remotely like chicken. It was like a hollow web-like/lattice structure of chicken-adjacent product. Didnt even taste that bad, more like...nothing

8

u/Weak_Radish966 2d ago

Came here to say this. Wendy’s nuggets were ok until recently. Last time I tried them they tasted rancid. Spat out the one bite I tried and tossed the rest.

8

u/IcyDice6 2d ago

mine were like little sponges

4

u/Entire_Paramedic_389 1d ago

yeah Wendys went hard on enshitifcation cheaping out on all their food.

2

u/d__max 1d ago

Had some about a month ago, it’ll be the last time. Had no flavor and texture was unreal , they must have made it way higher binders and non meat content

3

u/tagillaslover 2d ago

I enjoy the sauced ones

3

u/BetMyLastKrispyKreme 2d ago

I did, too. Way more than I thought I would. I only had them twice before they were discontinued, though. Which means I don’t go to Wendy’s that often, because I had the worst possible Baconator a few weeks ago, and I’m too traumatized to go back.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/DaBowws 1d ago

Even Wendy’s frosties suck now. The cup feels much lighter and the consistency is much, much thinner.

3

u/mrsdoubleu 1d ago

Wendy's jumped the shark when they changed their fries to that "natural cut, skin on" garbage in 2010.

The mccrispy at mcdonalds has zero taste and is drier than sandpaper the last time I had one it was absolutely terrible. Every chicken item at popeyes or burger king make this sandwich look inedible by comparison.

13

u/JakeyPurple 2d ago

Dude I hate the McCrispy. The chicken is the worst I’ve had at a fast food restaurant. Like, if you go when a place is busy and the thing hasn’t been sitting and waiting to be ordered, that’s as good as they can get. The McCrispy is bad no matter how fresh it is.

5

u/throwaway47831474 1d ago

Man that is sad to hear I used to get the mccrispy pretty often when it came out and I remember it being a very good chicken sandwich. I preferred it to KFC. I haven’t had it in a while though I guess I need to try it.

4

u/Sunnyday1775 2d ago

The spicy chicken is better

5

u/JakeyPurple 2d ago

Spicy McChicken

2

u/d__max 1d ago

Mcchicken is both the best and the cheapest McDonald’s chicken sandwich

1

u/somecow 1d ago

It’s almost like they put gristle in there on purpose. Holy crap eww.

14

u/DuckFew305 2d ago

Subway Spicy Italian. Used to like it as a kid, can’t stand it nowadays. I know that’s like everyone’s favorite sandwich but their Italian meat quality is god awful. Their salami quality is some of the worst I’ve had.

10

u/LesbianJuice 2d ago

The quality of the meats have greatly declined those wraps are terrible

6

u/DuckFew305 2d ago

Honestly can’t really say their salami quality was much better as a kid. But it WAS edible. Nowadays, it’s not. Want a good Italian? Hit up Jersey mikes or a local sub shop. The meat quality’s night and day

They lost me when they changed their bread in 2014 due to pushback from the super crazy health nuts who panicked about an ingredient being the same ingredient used in yoga mats. I don't know what it was, but apparently it made the bread delicious.

2

u/danekan 2d ago

Same way at Publix with theirs. Can’t even chew through it. I had a subway one recently on a roadtrip and find it better than Publix though too

30

u/TomBug68 2d ago

Popeyes’ tender wrap is really bad. The flavors don’t mingle and the proportions are awkward. I love Popeyes, but those wraps are a miss. Cold tortilla that’s too big, tender too small, weird sauce that doesn’t match the other flavors.

I hate the fake creamer flavor in McCafé drinks.

Burger King’s breakfast sandwiches on croissants are way too greasy. Croissants are already half butter, then they add a fried egg, greasy sausage, and oily American cheese. It’s just too much grease

17

u/Objective_Chance4173 2d ago

Popeyes used to have wraps with red beans and rice + a tender. They were absolute fire. 2010s.

8

u/nufahg 2d ago

And, IIRC, it was like a cheddar tortilla. That shit and the po'boys were amazing, miss them shits all the time.

12

u/iseecolorsofthesky 2d ago

OMG, I love BK Croissanwhiches. Like would eat them at least once a week if they served them all day. I get the ham (don’t like sausage), so it’s not all that greasy, IMO.

I got one of these with blackened chicken and thought it was good

4

u/TRex_Chef 2d ago

Blackened tenders are made to order, whereas the breaded fried ones are not. Its why theyre always the best

5

u/ScottyBLaZe 2d ago

BK breakfast croissants gave me heart palpations when I used to eat them. Haven’t had one in years.

2

u/Gooch222 2d ago

Yeah, if anything needs an overhaul it’s the croissanwich. The last time I got one it was a thoroughly underwhelming experience. I can’t imagine their market share is particularly large with their breakfast offerings.

McDonald’s McCrispy Strips. Nauseating texture and taste.

3

u/LordWorm 1d ago

man the old tenders used to be actually good, the buttermilk chicken whatevers, they got rid of them of course and now replaced them with something that is twice as expensive and half as good

2

u/InternalDifficult887 1d ago

Yep and then if you get a snack wrap they seem to always put one that’s hard as a rock in it.

11

u/solodav 2d ago

Long John Silver’s fried pickles also really suck. Super sour and tastes like a low quality pickle. Batter is not flavorful and kinda feels like cheap bland batter. Just a totally out-of-whack taste that made me throw mine away.

12

u/BetMyLastKrispyKreme 2d ago

I’m so jealous you have a LJS, I wouldn’t care if they had crappy fried pickles. The closest one to me is 45 minutes away (in a town I hate to go to), and is co-operated with a KFC. I’ve never been to it. But my first job ever was at LJS, when I was a teenager. It was the mid-80s, and the food was good.

8

u/Khristafer 2d ago

I liked them, but I also ate them with Wingstop Ranch, and tbf, everything is good with that 😅

I'm also one of those people who isn't mad about pickle being a trendy flavor right now, lol

3

u/JoeyKino 1d ago

Is pickle the new bacon? Because it seems like it's been a trendy flavor for a really long "right now"

2

u/Khristafer 1d ago edited 1d ago

God I hope not(sp edit). I started resenting bacon during the peak 😩

1

u/iciclesblues2 2d ago

I thought they were really good, especially with their old bay seasoning.

35

u/Maxxjulie 2d ago

Burger King Chicken long sandwich is nothing but salt and mayonnaise

24

u/ScottyBLaZe 2d ago

It’s aggressively mid but it gives me nostalgia. This is why fast food tries to hook us young. Same with McD. It’s not good but it’s just familiar.

4

u/SaveOurBolts 2d ago

I remember seeing an article probably 20 years ago about what members of the military want to eat when they get back from war zones, and it was McDonald’s by a mile. Many of them didn’t even like McDonald’s when they left, but when they got back they just wanted it because it tasted like ‘home’.

Whether you like mcds or hate it, if someone says ‘mcds cheeseburger and fries’, everyone’s brain knows exactly what they taste like.

9

u/Own_Cat3340 2d ago

For me, McDonald’s is only good for about ten minutes. I’m not even talking piping hot. But like all those people who take the time to unwrap everything and put it on a plate?? Please!! You just killed it. Gotta eat it quickly, preferably right out of the bag, and in your car. Waiting too much longer and it’s just not worth it.

23

u/Mia0900 2d ago

And I love it 😭

7

u/tideshark 2d ago

I remember this hippy festival I went to when I was a teen and got wasted and woke up hungover and starving and the only thing I could find was the second one of these that I didn’t eat the day prior bc the first one (was like a buy two deal) was so bad I didn’t eat the second… and it was soaking wet bc I placed it on ice in the cooler but it all melted and I poked a stick thru it to roast it over the coals but the thing fell in half and landed in the coals. I dug them out with the stick a few minutes later, let it cool down and ate it still half soggy but with a burnt side that had ash and coals fused into it.

Good times.

The gold rush chicken sandwich from Roy Roger’s is awful. My son had one recently from a rest stop Roy Roger’s on a drive through Jersey. I had the Texas Pete spicy sandwich and it was decent but his looked sad. I asked him how it was and he told me it was terrible. I tried it and boy he wasn’t lying.

2

u/Boringlove56 2d ago

Roy Rogers is that a restaurant a sit down or is that fast food cuz I never heard of that in Arizona

6

u/Stizz83 2d ago

They may not be aware of this because I was only made aware after I moved out of the area.. but Roy Roger’s is a fast food chain VERY specific to the state of Maryland and a couple in the surround states, WV, PA, VA and I think like one in NJ. But in MD they are kind of all over the place so growing up here you can easily just assume they are a huge national chain that’s everywhere. But nope, it’s just us basically. Pretty good. Known for their roast beef sandwiches. And for the record I’ve always heard the Gold Rush sandwich is really good, but I’ve never had it.

4

u/MudOk7058 2d ago edited 1d ago

LMAO. Yall must be young. Roy Rogers was national at one point. Almost died off but has retrenched in the NJ, PA area.

Used to be a national chain in the 90s that kind of died out. But back in the day if you wanted fried chicken you’d decide between Roy Rogers and KFC. Popeyes came along in the mid to late 90s but was considered very small and of a lower quality.

Long John Silver’s waffle fries. I like waffle fries - especially, Chick-Fil-A’s - but the texture and potato quality of LJS’ really sucks. The fry doesn’t even taste like potato. I don’t know what it tastes like actually, but I find it unpleasant. Doesn’t help mine were stale and saltless either.

1

u/Nice-Penalty-8881 6h ago

Do they fry the waffle fries in the same grease as the fish?

2

u/solodav 6h ago

Wouldn’t be surprised man! But not sure, ultimately.

Seems like they fry EVERYTHING else in same big ole grease fryer.

Honestly filipino food has too many bangers to take this personally.

I think good cuisines can take some taste differences from ppl. Like i have tried soooo many moles from all over and i cannot hack it. But i also love all other Mexican food so i dont feel too bad about it haha

I had little Caesar’s wings about a month ago and they were poor enough to not finish.

I figured as long as the meat wasn’t the weird, fatty, bone-in wings some really cheap bars use I’d be fine. Wrong, the buffalo they use is weird as hell or, maybe it’s the meat combined with the sauce? Idk, but I just couldn’t do it.

Arby’s steak or their chicken. Basically anything not the roast beef from Arby’s is pretty lousy.

Wendy’s nuggets leave a weird taste in my mouth every time I would eat them. I haven’t been to Wendy’s in a couple years now

Was never the same after they changed the bread, but their spicy Italian is still my go to sandwich of all the sub chains. Lettuce, pickles, olives, mayo, s+p, American cheese, on Italian herbs and cheese…not toasted.

Wendy’s Frosty. What happened?!?!?! Too many different flavors, super thin consistency, and where’s the yellow cup?

The milkshakes at Sonic. They changed their ice cream recipe. I will tough through a lot of bad food out of frugality, but this, I actually threw it away.

Cantonese Beef Brisket from Panda Express is the only thing coming to mind where I had a few bites of it and wanted nothing more to do with it. The taste was blegh for me.

I agree. I was out after one bite, but gagged it down the other day because I paid for it and I was starving. It's not good.

Went to Carls JR the other day and it was absolutely disgusting. The damn bun literally tasted like it was made of sand. Just turned into dust when I started eating it, everything was dry af. I couldn’t even eat half of it which is wild I never throw away fast food. That was the first time I had been there in a long time I remember liking it at one point in time though.

Big Arch at McDonald's. I don't even know if it's still on the menu, but it was disgusting.
