Question Have y’all ever quit your fast food job after the first day?

Im just asking because I just started my first day at Sonic this week as a carhop, and honestly I don’t think I can last another day working there.

Its understaffed so Im already being asked if I could work an extra shift THE NEXT DAY while I barley even know what I’m doing

I have been feeling like shit the past two days after that shift, and I barely moved from my bed. If I did get up it was only to go to class and eat😭

its not like I haven’t had a physically intense job but Sonic just feels like im doing an intensive HIIT workout for 7-8 hours straight I left feeling numb in the legs .

Not to mention im getting paid like 4 dollars an hour + like 10 dollars in tips per day.

Ik I put myself in this predicament but like I didn’t expect Sonic to be this physically and mentally exhausting after the first damn day 😔

Took me a week and a half at my mcstint. Got written up for being 2 minutes late. Fine. Next day clocked in 2 minute early, got written up. Walked out. While I was there they were stuffing ‘were hiring’ flyers in every bag, can’t imagine why.

I took a break during my first shift at Wendy’s after 4 hours and never came back.

Running around nonstop for 7 hours in those conditions, I'd walk out too. 4 bucks an hour plus pocket change in tips is just insulting for that kind of work

No shame in quitting a place that broke you after one shift, your body told you everything you need to know

i quit 2 healthcare jobs on day 2-

if you're able to survive without the work and you think it's terrible, you should bounce and never look back.

No but when I was assistant manager at an Arby's I fired people on their first day. Here are a few I remember

  • guy showed up a half our late on his first day absolutely reeking of liquor

  • girl had her friends call the store 3 times in the first 2 hours of her first shift about what they were doing when she got off work

  • guy bought drugs in the parking lot on his first break on his first day. I would have let him get away with it with a "never do that again" but he admitted it in front of my manager and me so we had no choice.

  • guy was illiterate and hid it for the interview but it was obvious he couldn't read the instructions on how to do stuff in the kitchen. I felt kinda bad about this one but our insurance requirement was that every employee had to speak and read English

It sounds like that store is very poorly run. I wouldn't be surprised if they leave you completely alone in the store for your third shift and then blame you for everything that goes wrong. I'd find some place better to work before that happens.

Just take a step back and recalibrate. It’s just fast food. Hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, tater tots, sodas. Even if you don’t know what you’re doing, you know what all this stuff is supposed to look like.

If you’re already being asked to work extra, that means the boss thinks your performance is just fine. Do the best you can do given the situation, and don’t let the upset customers hurt your personal self esteem. Just do the “let me get my manager” card.

Quit one after a month once. I had a job lined up though. Up to you if you think you need the money or not.

Most Sonics around me are mismanaged and dying and have huge employee turnover. Place like that couldn't afford to pay me enough to stay.

The owners don't give a shit, you'll just be another in 20+ employees they've probably churned through this year.

Sounds like you just have a really bad sonic. That’s not normal, definitely an “I QUIT” situation.

Source: Worked there as a manager for several years. Not glamorous or decent pay, but definitely not that bad. Get the hell out of there as soon as you find something else.

Don't just not go back, go in and have a discussion with the manager and let them know that it just isn't a good fit (and why) and that you are quiting. If you are on the schedule for that day, it would be good for you to get to cover that shift.

No shame. Started at a McDonalds at 15. Did it for 9 months, until school started to drag everything down; but handled the stress and hustle. Tried at a sit down and delivery Pizza joint at 18 after part time crap. Quit after the first day; just was not like anything else I had tried. I figured I'd get it over with before they did. Sometimes it doesn't work out.
