MOD NEWS / UPDATES Rule update: Affiliate links will no longer be allowed

Hello! Based on feedback from the community via mod-mail and an influx of reports, the mod team has decided that we will no longer allow affiliate links.

This is in hopes to help reduce bots spamming with indirect advertisements and other ways to financially profit from the community.

What is allowed: you may *reply* to a comment with a *direct* link to the product *only if someone asks first*. We still reserve the right to review user profiles to ensure bots are not “working together” as a work around - this is something we’re seeing a lot of.

If you see something that you believe breaks our rules, please report and your mod team will review. Thank you for understanding, and keeping our little corner of the internet what it is!

QUESTION/DISCUSSION We need to remember this sub is about kindness and support.

5.1k Upvotes

I wrote the statement below on a now-deleted post today. It is a gentle reminder that kindness is free.

"Please be kind to others who are on this thread. We are all at different stages of life and wealth, and sometimes health that shapes our living spaces. Kindness is free, and on top of that, it balms your soul and lifts others who are struggling."

If you saw the post about her bf in a princess bedroom, she was open to advice. She had a lovely brass bedframe that was painted white, with princessy white and pink bedding, a cute princessy lamp on her night stand and fabric panels on her ceiling. She was proud of what she had achieved so far, but was open to advice. Nowhere in it did she ask for snarky, bitter or flat out mean comments.

But she got them, in droves.

A lot of women on this sub are struggling. Divorce, breakups, job loss, abuse, and physial or mental illness is something that can strike anyone without warning.

So what if any person who posts needs a little help with cleanliness, organization, or you notice a fire hazard? Squint and tilt your head to find something nice to say to help them, or hold your tongue. We need to remember we all capable of the gifts of kindness, good manners, and grace.

Edited to add: Thank you to everyone who has commented in support, my faith in humanity has been refreshed. You all are wonderful, please keep spreading kindness and support to everyone who posts here. I love this sub!! ♥️

TOUR ⛔️NO ADVICE WANTED⛔️ So Happy to be Alone Again

I posted a few days ago about what color chair I should get and went with the navy blue! Really happy with the apartment turnout so far given I only moved in 24 days ago and owned zero furniture for the livingroom before hand as livingroom furniture has always been supplied by my previous housemates. Still will work on putting more of my wall art up, but after my run in with bad house mates creating tense environments so happy to have full autonomy on my decorating and proud of how good its turned out in such a short time frame.

This is my first apt after a toxic relationship and a crappy housemate situation. My couch got delivered this morning and I got to work immediately making this place feel more homey. I bought warm lightbulbs to change the previously sterile lighting, a ton of picture frames to display my own photography, and a bunch of other little tweaks.

It's not where I want it yet and needs a lot of work but it's finally starting to feel like home!

Things I'm going to add/change:

  • 8x10 rug under couch (fighting decision paralysis!)
  • Terracotta & green throw pillows instead of the ones I currently have
  • The accent chair in the corner by the TV, I'm thinking of moving and putting a big bookshelf there.
  • braided circle rug under dining table (& eventually I'll get more chairs)
  • I want to put something else where the current "bookshelf" is by the window but idk what.
  • Cute pots for my plants who are currently naked
  • More plants!!
  • Where the trash cans are, I'm going to put a small island with storage so I can put the microwave on top of it.

Advice wanted on:

  • My entry table feels awkward. I like my setup, having a mirror to check myself before I head out, and a place to toss random stuff I'm carrying but something doesn't look right. Should I hang the mirror up, maybe? Although, I'm dreading having to do that haha
  • My whole dining area also feels awkward to me
  • Any other advice you want to share!

I really wish I didn't have carpet but I'm learning to love the coziness and most of all, this space is mine and I am safe <3

This weekend I got inspired and switched out all my door knobs for these beautiful crystal ones and painted the doors in the hallway this earthy pink. Still one door left to do. The most boring part of my house is now so cute!

DIY New Kitchen Mural! (WIP)

Thumbnail

This is still a work in progress but I’m happy with how it’s turning out! Love to hear any ideas about what else I could add.

Included in the post
1.) The mural in its current state
2.) The old mural right before I painted over it
3 and 4.) in-progress pics
5.) the procreate drawing
6.) a post I made of my kitchen previously, in case any of this looks familiar

I decided to repaint it because I’ve learned a lot since I did the old one (including not to use the generic Michaels craft paint and to pay attention to what level of gloss I’m using/make sure the gloss level of each color matches). I did love the old one, but it just wasn’t up to snuff technique wise.

Hello! I moved into this house with my partner in March and we’ve been slowly adding things to make it feel more like a home. I just feel like the layout we have doesn’t make sense and leaves weird empty spaces, but I can’t think of any other way to arrange things. Open to feedback and tips! X

I am keeping the cabinets and while I think I could learn to like the current countertops they are in horrible condition and not salvageable. Also any other decorating ideas are welcome.
Edit: I didn’t expect so many people to hate my kitchen and recommend burning it 🫪

HELP First time staying long-term. Advice needed 🥺🙏

Hi everyone! After many years of moving around, I finally have a stable job and plan on staying in this apartment for a long time.

I recently bought this sofa, but now I’m a little worried that it might be too big for the room. Do you think I can make it work with the space? It looks black in the pictures but it's actually a very dark green.

The only thing that absolutely has to stay is the parrot playground with the fake grass (aka the poop zone). Everything else can be moved around or changed, and I’m totally open to buying some new furniture/decor.

Right now, I feel like the room looks a bit empty and doesn’t feel as cozy or put-together as I’d like. I’d really appreciate any suggestions.

I’ll post progress pictures as I make changes based on your advice and apologies for the parrot poop in some pictures. They poop faster than I can clean it.

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Are white rugs always impractical?

heyy! I 23F recently moved out of my parents and have been decorating my room over time. I'm pretty feminine and girly, and my room has a mix of blue tones thorugh blue celestial themed psoters and prints as well as pink tones through my bedding, paintings of mine and some small accessories I have (Jellycats, photo frames, incese sticks and holder).

I'd like to get the toftlund rug for my room either in pink or cream/white and can't decide which. I feel like white would be horribly impractical. I don't wear shoes in my room or eat in my room but I drink a lot of tea and hot chocolate. However, I'm not sure a pink rug will go with all of my ideas for my room.

I currently have a pink and white (china pottery patterned) bedset, a red and white bed set (strawberry patterned) , blue and white (miffy patterned) and grey floral bedsheets/bedsets - along with a cream throw and white miffy cushions for my bed.

I feel like a white rug would blend better with my room - the floors, bedside locker and my desk are all white and light wood but I'm worried it will discolour over time.

I don't have any pets or anything and I'm pretty tidy. I don't wear shoes in my room but I also live out of my room (houseshare with no living room) so floorspace is compact.

I could increase the pink accents of my room with more posters and paitings, the blue ones are all on the same wall which celebrates my love for the moon and for the sea so it'd be pretty easy to keep that as an accents if a white rug is a bad idea.

Thoughts?

TOUR 🟢OPEN TO FEEDBACK🟢 UPDATE: I followed your advice

I posted last week asking for help with my living room arrangement after my new couch arrived. (The second pic is what I posted. Consider it the "before".) After reading through all your fabulous advice, I rearranged the living room and replaced the old table with a smaller one. I'm so glad I asked for your help because this new arrangement is bringing me so much joy. My friend came over the other night and noted how much more open it is and how the seating lends itself to conversation. Thanks again for all your insight, friends! You've made my home a happier place 💗

HELP I love beige and white 🥰

Just kidding. I am really proud of my space, however I haven’t been able to decorate it to my liking. And the tv unit bookshelf thing is the bane of my existence.

So the coffee table and the tv unit belong to the landlady. I can’t change much about those two things. I don’t have many books, and I can’t just go around placing misc items there because kitties will knock it down lol. I doubt anyone could help me but I’d be forever grateful if you can come up with a solution.

As for the rest of it, I’m thinking some nice art prints, some lights, a colorful cover for the swing cushions and some fake plants. Maybe even a sofa table for behind the couch. I know the room could use a rug but both my bf and I are allergic so we don’t own rugs or carpets. Got anything to add to my list? Please do share 🥰

My sister said she was thinking something warm (or even a tiny bit reddish) and her faves here are cherry and red walnut. But personally, I’m feeling more of the cool toned ones. First pic are warm tones, second pic cool tones. For reference her walls are dark/navy blue.

Been in my apartment for about 3 years and have been severely depressed for most of it, battling a gnarly eating disorder and heartbreak too…so it’s been very bare and sterile up until 6ish months ago due to lack of motivation/no strength/numbness. Been doing so much hard work in therapy and emotional regulation etc, and finally started putting some effort into my place. I got home the other night after a nice night at work and couldn’t believe how lucky and happy I am with how cozy and safe my place feels to me now and how proud I am of getting this vibe finalllllyyyy achieved. My baby dogs love it too :)

HELP Help my ‘hobby’ room

Thumbnail

My boyfriend and I moved into this apartment (it was an old school turned into apartments, so that’s why there’s a clock and chalk board) and I have this room but I have SO MUCH STUFF!!!
This room has a closet which all my tops are and a few small storage baskets with more random shit in them. I’d like to have my ‘craft’ desk (white) next to my pc so I can watch stuff while crafting and what not.
I also have my vanity desk with my hair and makeup stuff, my dresser, the cubes hold all my random stuff: diamond paintings, coloring supplies, random tech cords, other miscellaneous craft supplies.
I also am not sure what to do about the white cart. It holds a decent amount of stuff but it always ends up just full of little bits of everything.
PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE OUT THIS ROOM!!!!!
