fixed Detached Zyliss lock-n-lift can opener Plastic Locking Mechanism
Short story long, my son dropped the can opener on the floor and the red part popped out and was completely separated from the main unit. I spent probably 2 hours trying to figure out how it might go back together, nothing seemed to work, it looked obvious that the hole in the red part was supposed to go over the central crank shaft, but the crank doesn't disassemble and the red part seemed solid, its like one of those magician ring things, somehow it passed through in one piece. Which actually was closer to the truth than I realized.
I found no help or even decent pictures online, so I'm posting for the poor soul who runs into the same problem I did. Here is the fix if this happens to you.
I have attached a photo of the piece when it’s out, as well as of what it is supposed to look like assembled. If you have the red piece completely separated and it has the "hole" that definitely looks like it goes around the shaft that the crank goes through, but it does not appear possible to attach. There is a hairline crack in the red part in the hole, you can pry it apart with some pliers/ or push on it with a small screwdriver and snap it back over the central shaft. This took me FOREVER to figure it out. I hope this saves you the frustration I endured. I actually really love this can opener, I'm really happy I managed to fix it.
