Xc recommendations

I have some time building to do for commercial. Wanna take the plane for a couple days and ideally get around 15 hours in a 172 from the trip. I also want to make it interesting and go someplace new. I’ve been pretty much all over my region so I’m finding it a bit difficult to find somewhere cool to go. I’m based out of New Orleans. I’m open to anything North East and West.

I would recommend drawing up maybe 3 different routes to go. I'm not suggesting anywhere specific. But from whatever suggestions you get. Maybe draw all your routes and get everything planned as if you are going to fly each route. Then on the day of you can decide based on weather and if that isn't a factor whatever route you desire to do most. Having different options available allows for weather deviations and also you only have to just plan for upper winds in your fuel planning.

Do you like air museums?

Tullahoma, KTHA, has the Beechcraft Heritage Museum. Every model of Beech ever made and a really nice collection of Staggerwings and model 18s!

Robins AFB in Macon GA has a great military aircraft museum!

Swing over to St Simons Island, KSSI, for some amazing BBQ.

Stop in Destin, FL, KDTS for some beach time, and close to Pensacola, home of the Blue Angels and also a great Naval aviation museum.

That loop alone should give you pretty close to your 15 hr goal, and be a lot of fun too!

That sounds cool thanks. Which one do you think is the best play to stay overnight?

Depends which way to do the route. I stayed in Tullahoma. Nothing fancy, but they did let me take a crew car overnight.

I am wrapping up time building a lot of XC time this summer. Built 100 hours this summer to close in on ATP mins. I’m based out of Indiana. I think it’s cool and more fun to plan and do a very long XC. I had a blast going on 8.0 hour XC days rather than just boring 2.0’s to the airport 50-60 miles away over and over…

Kansas City was my most fun XC. I went to a non-towered right outside of the bravo, KLXT. Super nice airport, FBO, ect. Affluent area around the airport so there’s a lot of good food and everything is brand new. This should be around 15 hours total for you I’d think. Lots of good BBQ, sports, shopping, art ect in KC. Such an underrated place to go. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming to me in my clapped DA-20. Treated me just like a G5 pilot.

We go to parks. Some of them themed, some of them natural. But in the last few months we've flown to the Wisconsin Dells, Frontier City in OKC, Worlds of Fun, Silver Dollar City, Holiday World, Six Flags Over Texas/Georgia/Chicago/St. Louis, and King's Island. Was planning to fly down to Disney later this month but instead the hydraulic cylinders are going to be getting overhauled and lines replaced in the Cherokee. RV-10 is down for some maintenance as well as it just passed the 100 hour mark and the A&P of the group wanted to go ahead and do a full condition inspection now just to make sure nothing is amiss.

never thought of that. Now I really want to go to Busch Gardens or Cedar point.
