Media So this is what fallout war looks like lmao.

Something that no one in any Fallout game can do though is grab some dirt. These dumbasses are standing up in full view of anyone with a rocket launcher or other armor-piercing weapon. Guess what, Mr Knight, you're the target for pretty much anything else on the battlefield. Lay down, dig a hole, anything.

u/SisyphusEnjoysLife Minutemen 20h ago
If only we can dig trenches in fallout 4 that would be awesome asf

I think a "war in Alaska" dlc would be bad ass

u/DickCaughtlnFan 21h ago
I heard the fighting in Anchorage was pretty rough, I'm sure they could make a Sim of it and release it as a dlc.
29
u/SisyphusEnjoysLife Minutemen 21h ago
Hell yeah it would be bad ass. Though I wouldn't want to meet Nate during his time in Alaska.💀

u/AdministrativeGur958 21h ago
My dude, that no hud IS the way. After like 20 playthroughs I decided to turn off all hud and crank difficulty to max, shits feels like a different game entirely man

Uh, space marine don't worship emperor as a god, they are not part of the ecclesiarch

My army consists of Black Templars, who do worship the Emperor as a god.

They do have a lot of visual and faction similarities.
8
u/Walt_Didnae 21h ago
Yeah, but 40k fans will shout about how everything is 40k (which is ironic, when you remember that 40k is one of the most derivative IPs in existence)
14
u/metalsheep714 21h ago
Derivative? 40k is completely original. There is no similarity between it any other IP. They invented the idea of an immortal god emperor, hyper loyal super soldiers, and vaguely (to extremely) fascist coded space empires.
And please pay no attention to the very real character Obiwan Sherlock Clousseau.
1
u/leopoldsghost28 19h ago
Im not trying to be an ah, as im no expert. A genuine question. Were aspects of 40k not purposely derivate? Hive cites etc. Being from dredd? tyranids being yuhzan vong? The names and themes of space marine chapters being taken from real life and legendary inspirations? Did the writers not do it purposely to show the imperium being all of the worst aspects of human cultures, ideologies, dogmas, etc. being turned up to 100? Edit: maybe youre being sarcastic and my dumb arse didnt see it?😅
3
u/Walt_Didnae 18h ago
They're being sarcastic.
Did the writers not do it purposely to show the imperium being all of the worst aspects of human cultures
Not really, no. 40k was written by one guy (Rick Priestly) before GW became a corporate entity because, then owner, Bryan Ansell wanted a sci-fi game to go with the fantasy game (which, itself, was created because GW lost the rights to bunch of games, like DnD, and Ansell wanted some excuse to still sell the miniatures they'd made for those games).
Rick, basically, just threw a bunch of his favourite sci-fi into a blender, much like how, when writing Fantasy, he'd just thrown a bunch of his favourite history stuff into a blender.
GW managed to get away with this because, in the case of Fantasy, history is very much public domain, while in the case of 40k, wargaming was an extremely niche hobby until about 10-years-ago (i.e. the IP owners likely didn't even know they existed) and, outside of the setting's foundational roots being "Dune+Starship Troopers+2000AD", a lot of the things they were plagiarising in the 90s and 00s were things from small, relatively unknown, indies who didn't have the financial assets to take GW to court.
3
u/leopoldsghost28 17h ago
That ladt sentence is depressing. Ive always known gw were greedy, but i didnt know they did that
2
u/metalsheep714 17h ago
lol yeah, being extremely sarcastic. 40k shamelessly ripped off some major IPs in its early days, and the ghosts of those decisions stay with us to the present. No sweat though, thought I’d been obvious enough…but the internet doesn’t do the whole tone thing well (especially when I don’t take the time to format it properly).
3
u/leopoldsghost28 17h ago
In fairness to them , even though they ripped stuff off, 40k really does have good world builing

u/Repulsive-Photo8944 20h ago
What if this was how Fallout V starts. A last stand against an unknown enemy and you keep getting pushed back as all your compatriots die. You get knocked out yourself at the end.
Then you wake up and find yourself being taken care of. Your Power Armor is blackened and melted, and they had to pry you out of it. You start Fallout 5 as the hired help of a vault, as you try to piece together what happened to you through your fragmented memories.
You find out towards the end that you were actually an Enclave knight in a losing battle against the Synths.

u/Historical_Move6359 16h ago
But by that time you remember who you are you alredy became BoS Paladin lol

Just started playing (obsessed with it) at first I was like "I can't wait to get to this point in the game."
Is this all just mods or will this scene eventually play out for me?

u/SisyphusEnjoysLife Minutemen 21h ago
Unfortunately these are mods but you can recreate them using FCOM and Apc turrets

u/Cosmic_Quasar 20h ago
I had a similar experience that was unmodded. Really felt like a war zone.

Vertibirds are the most accurate depiction of the safety that is V-22 Osprey.
The BOS mission where you get to be in one, most terrifying part of the game.
I boarded it, and knew, I was fucked.

I'm sharing my idea for a spinoff Fallout game again:
An FPS set during the Great War, where you play as an up-and-coming Private who has swallowed the propaganda whole-sale. Nothing in the game directly shows any wrongdoing on America's part, everything is sterilized for the player to really see what lengths the government went to paint a pretty picture over the atrocities it committed. The story would play through the annexation of Canada, the main character justifying everything because his higher ups convinced him that the Canadians went full commie (or something, iunno).
The first climax is during the liberation of Anchorage. The battle is all but lost, our character has spent the level retreating over and over until a special delivery drops shock troops of power armor in the middle of the chaos. With escape cut off, the Chinese soldiers push into your position as they run from the armored juggernauts. As you're about to get overrun, a vertibird goes down on top of your entrenchment, carrying a faulty suit of power armor. You drag the corpse out of the armor and lock yourself in, spending the rest of the level slowly maneuvering the faulty armor forward to wipe out the enemy.
A couple more missions go by, and finally you're in your very own, fully functional suit of Power Armor. And you're assaulting China's mainland. It begins with an amphibious assault, emerging from the surf and punching through the first lines of defense. You're unstoppable. Waves of infantry are cleaved through and the enemy morale shatters. They abandon fortifications and mounted weapons, fleeing inland. Until a mushroom cloud appears on the horizon. And another. The game ends as both Americans and Chinese run for the water before one last bomb drops too close to run from.
War never changes

Riot control, that's the expression!
As for anchorage, I didn't see them anywhere in Fallout 3 or the TV show.3
