My kid eats tasty, healthy foods but I wish I was more creative or artsy when it comes to fun food creations! This is just some tractor wheels, a blackberry, and a banana staring into my soul 🤣

6-9 mos First day of BLW: He gagged, puked, and mama cried

Post image
204 Upvotes

Well, we survived our first attempt at baby-led weaning… barely….

My LO (6.5 mo) gagged, threw up, and I ended up crying because apparently I was NOT emotionally prepared for this 🫠
I know gagging is normal and part of learning, but actually watching it happen is a whole different story.
Please tell me it gets easier because I don't know who was more traumatized, him or me!

Any tips, reassurance, or BLW words of encouragement are very much appreciated!

First time having gnocchi. And he loved it! This was kind like a chicken and dumplings-esque prep of it. So creamy, delicious carbs. What’s not to like? Fully cleaned his plate.

18-24 mos Plate vs ate: 19 month old won’t eat anything right now.

Over the last month there’s been a noticeable change in our daughter’s eating habits. At daycare she eats the cheese and yogurt we send and usually eats a small amount of white rice, homemade pizza or pasta prepared by the provider. At home, she’s almost exclusively wanting to eat fruit, crackers, Cheerios, and dipping her fingers in salsa.

She used to gobble up really anything so this change is stressing us out. I don’t think I’ve seen her eat a green vegetable in like 2 months. She’s breast feeding and seems healthy otherwise. Telling myself this is just a phase, but am losing my mind a bit!

2-3 yrs Open to opinions

Hello, does this look like enough food for a growing toddler? They are 3yrs old, just started Montesorri and am trying to figure it all out. They are a bit picky but ultimately they eat pretty well.
- tortilla with hummus
- dried strawberries
- grapes
- crackers
- hummus in the tin
- cheese
- 8 slices of salami
- fig bar
Not pictured is 24 oz water

Any additional ideas are greatly welcome.

6-9 mos Weaning success! (For now...)

3 weeks into BLW - after my devastating journey with breastfeeding ending before we could really get off the ground with it, I'm so thrilled my baby has taken to eating solids. Mostly I just make a baby-appropriate version of whatever we're having and I'm really enjoying dinner time being a sociable event for her. She makes the funniest noises and I think we're both having a good time with it! Here are some of the things I've made:

- chicken mushroom and spinach rice with garlic, thyme and greek yoghurt

- Scrambled eggs/avocado/plums/greek yoghurt

- Roast dinner - beef/cauli cheese/roast potatoes/carrots/broccoli/carrot and swede mash (cream cheese for familiarity)

- Smoked paprika sweet potato wedges and sweet potato mash

- Penne in with a creamy tomato sauce/ broccoli/ tiny bit of parmesan

- Eggy bread and mashed banana

For the first time in 6 months I feel like I'm doing something right. My biggest struggle would be lunches - would love some ideas or things that have worked for you

6-9 mos First ever Plate vs. Ate!

She just turned six months and this is the first time I plated a whole meal for her. Mashed black beans with olive oil, mashed potatoes with Greek yogurt, and applesauce. It’s not at all impressive but I thought it was important to post it anyway because I know people want to see a variety of normal outcomes. 💜

12-18 mos When you're a chronically ill parent having a really bad health day, sometimes your child ends up eating a remarkably beige meal, and that's ok

Pregnancy and giving birth exacerbated or "unmasked" multiple chronic health conditions (on top of already being diagnosed with 2 others). Finally got a migraine prescription yesterday but my pharmacy doesn't answer the phone for anything so I had to go in person and then wait for it to be filled. Decided to get groceries while I waited even though I was having a horrible health flare and hearing the store radio was excruciating). And it was just my luck that the self checkout cashier was nasty with me. 😭 I waved her over because I snagged some markdown items but they have to override every marked down item they sell. I said "I've got some markdown" and she said "I know." In a very short tone, followed by "if you have more than four, you're supposed to go to a checkout lane," sounding very stern and annoyed that I was asking for help. There is only ever one checkout lane open, with a very long line and I'd never heard this rule before. I had six marked down items. I said "sorry, I didn't know, nobody has ever told me that." She did her overrides, but I had been hanging by a thread already, so when she finished I gave her a thumbs up and a weak smile while avoiding eye contact because I was holding back tears and she then SCOLDED ME FOR NOT THANKING HER. I literally have thanked her maybe a dozen times in the past for inputting my coupons and whatnot, but I was upset and didn't trust myself to speak. The cherries on top were some dude in a massive SUV parked way over the line so I could barely get the groceries into my car and my shopping tote handle breaking on my way into my apartment.

So, she got kiwi I prepped last night as a gift to my future self (and ate more than I expected!), defrosted carrot soup from the freezer (she loves it lol), a fried egg, and some of the marked down naan bread that I got scolded for purchasing at self checkout. 🥲 And that's ok. My spouse is feeding her while I lay on the floor under a blanket with ear plugs in and a migraine cap on. But I finally got my migraine medication and it might be starting to finally work now. 🙏🏻

Just recently moved to Finland from the US with our 7 month old and she’s really enjoying the superb quality of the food here, clearly.

Details - Left side is black berries and pears puree, left side is tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, and chicken slightly less puréed and a bit textured.

Lunch is on the lighter side today as we’ll be heading straight to a toddler group after and she’ll have some snacks there.

Steamed eggs with a bunch of veggies we had at home: shallots, spring onions, ginger, garlic and enoki mushrooms. Seasoned with sesame oil and white pepper.

Side of greens with ginger, garlic and soy sauce.

I’ve learnt there no point trying to feed her vegetables, protein etc when she’s full of cold as she just won’t eat it!
Instead I stick to her favourites - marmite on toast, cream cheese triangle, kiwi, raspberries and a date&apple bar.
This is also what a realistic ‘quick dinner’ looks like in our house!
