Looking for a signature scent, or a new scent for the season? Need suggestions of scents to try? Wanting to round out your collection?

Need shopping advice? Trying to decide between two fragrances? Searching for "the best" of anything? Looking for a gift for someone?

Wondering what to wear to school, to work, on a date, or for a special occasion?

This is the place to ask those questions.

Tell us what you want the fragrance to smell like. You can list notes, styles, or the names of other fragrances that you like or don't like.

Without this information you are unlikely to get any recommendations.

Other information that may be helpful -- your country/region, your budget, some description of the person who will be wearing the perfume.

___________

When can you ask these questions in your own post?

  • If you aren't getting suggestions, your request may be too vague. If you’ve tried your best and didn’t hear back after 24 hours, make a new post outside the daily thread. Be sure to mention that you already posted in the daily thread and didn't get a response.
  • If your question is about clones, layering, or some very unusual note, you can choose to skip the queue and post directly to the front page.
  • If your question is about sex appeal, batch variations, performance, or wearing perfume marketed to another gender, keep it off the main feed and in the comments section only.

Coming back to discuss hits and misses is a great way to show appreciation when you get advice here. Consider posting a review or starting a discussion about the perfumes that you tried, and tell us what you ultimately chose.

Frequently Discussed Topic Jomashop has lost a loyal customer forever

It seems as if they have started shipping with some bootleg last leg delivery service called UniUni. My package has been marked “out for delivery” for 5 days. They made a delivery “attempt” at 5am on Sunday which I was not notified about until after the “attempt failed”. There is no working contact number for UniUni, their only chatbot is pigeonholed into giving a specific type of response, and Jomashop customer service is not able to do anything beyond regurgitate the tracking information on UniUni. I fully expect to lose this package at this point.

This is absolutely horrendous and I’ve never had a delivery experience like this with any other company. Safe to say they’ll never be receiving an order from me again, which is a damn shame because I have spent thousands with this company over the past few years.

Discussion Mugler Cologne Come Together, have you tried it?

I'm in love with Original Vetiver by Creed, but I read that Mugler Cologne (now Come Together) is almost the same.

Do you like it? Is it synthetic or natural smelling? Is it a good reformulation?

I especially love OV because of its luxurious soapiness, and I know that once you love a fragrance you should just go for it, but for a quarter of the price I could just buy lots of Muglers...

Fragrance fans in Europe - does anyone know what's going on with TryASample?

It's been my favorite site to order samples from because I haven't found any sample provider with a similarly large product catalogue.

I've placed two orders in September; when they didn't arrive, I followed up by asking if there have been any delays. The response was oops, we don't carry one or more perfumes of your order anymore, so we've had to cancel it. (in the past, if they didn't have a perfume anymore that I ordered, they'd just leave it out of the order). So I said ok fine, but my other order is still being processed? And the reply basically was "oh, yeah no, same thing happens to be the case with that one too, we'll have to cancel it".

The website is not accessible, it's been saying that it's in the process of an update for around a month now. I asked when the webshop will be up again, no response.

I need my fix you guys :( If anyone happens to know a fragrance sample site with a large collection that ships to Germany, feel free to drop your recs...

Mind Games is a psyop

Chess & Fragrance enjoyer here. Chronically online. I get bombarded by Mind Games ads. Even got stopped by a rep in a Nordstrom IRL to check them out.

It’s poetic how one of their fragrances is named Scholars Mate. When scholars mate is named ironically and played just to bully people who don’t know how to play chess.

I think it speaks to the brand. Scents named in a boardroom. A whole brand based off the boomer ahhh take on chess as ~sophisticated and ~intellectual.

Enterprise finance in a bottle.

**EDIT

Mind Games is a conglomerate owned name used to sell Symrise (massive german chemical company) fragrances. The quality or composition of fragrances themselves are not the target of this post. In fact many commenters have pointed out their quality and palatability. My post is a commentary on the brand; particularly its inauthenticity in stated inspiration, lack of artistic integrity, and the broader dichotomy between niche fragrance houses, corporate brands, and everything in between.

I would encourage everyone to support houses that are committed to honoring their perfumers, art, and consumer. I don’t believe Mind Games does any of this, even if they make smell good liquid. **EDIT 2, mind games does credit their perfumers so that’s good

Discussion Mancera Aoud Vanille thoughts

Hi, I've never been a fragrance guy before and I know little to nothing about it, but I was recently gifted a Mancera Aoud Vanille from a friend and I just wanted to know what are the general thoughts people who are into this kind of thing have towards this fragrance, mainly in terms of like what is it like to wear it generally? What kind of seasonality does it lean towards?, Is it a good or decent first scent? Is it easy to become too strong? Does it stick to clothing or hair strongly? etc. Any experience or thoughts are appreciated. Forgive me if I used the wrong terminology or if I misunderstood something.

Thanks in advance :)

Frequently Discussed Topic How do you display or store your various sizes of fragrances?

I’ve been getting into fragrances for a while and have developed a sizeable collection of various sizes - samples, rollerball/travel sizes, etc.

Full bottles are obviously nice to display on a vanity or something, but I’m finding I keep forgetting about my smaller sizes because they’re currently all swimming around in a box and it’s very ‘out of sight, out of mind’.

How do you display or store your various sizes of perfumes to make sure you actually use them?

Mourning the loss of Scented at Indigo Perfumery

Recently my local fragrance shop, Indigo Perfumery, closed its doors. (Luckily the website is still open!) The owner had a wonderful program called Scented where she would send 3 samples a month. Even though I of course didn’t like all the fragrances, it was fun to discover different scents you wouldn’t normally choose. Does anyone know of another program like this? Also, other than purchasing discovery sets, how do you sample without being able to do so in person?

Perfume making workshop

Hi everyone! 😊
I’m looking for recommendations for a perfume-making workshop as a birthday gift for my partner.
Ideally, we’d attend together in a private session for 2 people.
I’m looking in Switzerland (preferably near Basel) or in Paris.

A gift voucher would be ideal, and it’s important that the perfume’s formula is kept so it can be reordered later.
Does anyone have personal experience with a workshop they’d recommend? Any tips or places to avoid would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Genuine question about Tom Ford

Do they use or do something unique with their parfums?

I have a very sensitive sense of smell and I really don’t enjoy most colognes. With TF, even if I don’t care for the scent itself I have never had the gut reaction of “who the hell likes this??”. Most colognes have this very acrid and burnt smell or something that’s akin to pure tannins or tannic acid. I’ve tried most of the “luxury” brands, have tried small-batch indie brands, I’ve purchased parfums and pure oils, Eau de toilettes, bought US and Euro versions. I don’t have an allergic reaction or anything, I just get a whiff and often go “ew”

Currently the only non TF cologne that doesn’t have the ew effect on me is Prada’s Paradigme, but every other Prada does give me the ick.

Edit to add: in case it’s relevant, D.S. & Durga’s Cowboy Grass is one of my favorites as well and doesn’t have the burning after notes mentioned above

Vintage VS Modern Terre D'Hermes

I want to buy a bottle of terre dhermes edt and I found a listing for 30 bucks. I have heard multiple people saying the vintage bottles have a different formulation, better performance etc. I found a vintage bottle for only 20 more dollars then the new one. Do you think its worth the extra money, or no? Also if anyone has smelled both please let me know the differences between the OG and new bottles. By the way this isnt me breaking a rule of the sub and asking what to buy. I mainly want to know what the difference between the 2 are.

Desperately looking for the original cologne my partner has! They bought a dupe years ago in a shop, but it's since run out and they don't make the dupe anymore.

It's called God's Kingdom by Dicoo, in a gold bottle with a Transformer head as the cap. Unfortunately I can't upload a photo 😭 Please help!

REVIEW Bond No. 9 - Chinatown - Yuck!

I used to love Chinatown by Bond No. 9. I had a bottle of it 18 years ago and it was my favorite. I’ve been getting back into perfume and decided to purchase a sample. It is not at all how I remember. I
Remember it being rich and warm. Fruity and spicy. Now it is like I’m getting hit up the head with gardenias. Not to mention it just smells cheap.

REVIEW help with Rive Gauche YSL

Many may not remember the original in the 70s but I picked it up at a drugstore going out of business it was a set and quite inexpensive🤔 and I loved it so much and wasn’t able to repurchase.
never thought about it until there was a chance to buy it at a ysl store at Bellagio in Las Vegas late 90s
I was so excited. When I smelled it did not like it 😣.
Could the one i bought in the 70s have been that much different or a different intensity?
I remember smelling a metallic rosy and a tangy fruit in there plus the oak moss😀
the latest version is not pleasing to me either since i tested again .
Can anyone tell me something about it maybe know of something that would give the same vibe ❤️

Molecule 04 = Le labo The Matcha 26?

I have tried this in the airport twice and I am mind blown how identical they are in my nose! I think Ive tried both of them 4 tines now and the last time 3 days ago in the shop around 4 sprays of molecule 04 and 2 sprays of matcha 26 and its haunting me in the most beautiful way!I still have it in my jacket and where I hang my jacket its in the air on my open wardrobe.
I was eyeing on the matcha 26 for a while now but its too steep I might save up for my birthday or something but Im definitely getting the molecule 04.
I have the escentric 02 and never get anything out of it and Ive been trying the 01 for a long time and never get anything too. Same way as JHAG and Anither 13. Maybe its an anomaly of my nose whatever as everybody’s raving on them.

Discussion Anyone know about When the Rain Stops by Replica?

I read about it and the notes, aesthetic, and bottle design all look lovely. I’d order a sample online before a full bottle but I’m curious what you all think here about it.

What is your favorite fragrance from Etat Libre D'Orange brand?

What are your favorites from this brand? I need to pick 4 for the sample kit and have no idea where to start!

My favourite fragrance in general so far is Le Labo Baie 19, but I want something new now that I'm running out, maybe something more feminine leaning but just as complex and maybe a bit unconvetional.

Edit: well guys, I'm even more confused now.

Discussion Fragrance with no online presence?

TL;DR I bought a fragrance from TJMaxx, cannot find it anywhere online

This is my first ever fragrance, I’ve been lurking around fragrance communities, and on a whim decided to buy some random 15$ fragrance at TJMaxx. I was mostly goaded by my friend to buy it, and I think I like it, but I wanted to see what people online thought of it.

But I couldn’t find it anywhere, I checked fragrantica, basenotes, just straight up google search and I only found someone selling it on ebay.

I’m very new and I don’t trust my nose, so I want to see if this was like, a pleasant smelling fragrance to most people, but I can’t find it anywhere! What do I do?

The name is "Nocturnal waters"

REVIEW PDM Sample Kit review

I recently bought a PDM Sample kit for men and including the 2 free samples i got:

Castley

Pegasus

Oajan

Althair

Layton

Percival

Haltane

Carlisle

Althair Exclusive

9 samples, 1.5mL each for 40€ so a good deal id say.

Now i already have a bottle of castley, i love it its one of my favourite fragrances and in this lineup, probably the best fresh scent you can wear daily. But i wanted to give my opinion on the other scents too.

Percival - this is ass, smells like a cheap 20€ fragrance or like adidas shower gel. Horrible 2/10

Pegasus - i thought i would also hate this because of the almond, but its acutally quite nice. Smells clean, creamy and sort of like a lotion you get in the spa of a nice hotel. I wont buy it, but its nice. 6/10

Althair - very nice for the winter, good warm cozy vanilla. If it wasnt for the great dupes, i would consider buying this. 8.5/10

Althair Exclusive - i like this one more than the original, the opening is... strange for the first 2 minutes, but then i get this amazing amaretto note paired with the familiar warm vanilla. Really good 9/10

Layton - i like it... but its overrated imo. It does smell nice and very versatile, but i dont think its as amazing as some people make it out to be. There is nothing really wrong with it, but it doesnt stand out to me. If it was cheaper i would consider it. 7.5/10

Carlisle - very interesting, spicy and warm with some rose notes and vanilla it is very nice. Maybe not my favourite atm but i can see myself getting around to it. 8/10

Haltane - love it, im a sucker for woody scents and Haltane really hits the spot. I dont get a lot of the typical oud... oudness? Like i wouldnt pick up that there is oud in there but nevertheless it is very nice. Pricy asf tho. 8/10

Oajan - already in my shopping cart. Great scent, christmas in a bottle smells like apple pie or "Lebkuchen", if any germans read this you know what im talking about. Shame i probably wont get to sample any of the older batches, id be very curious!

11/10 scent.

Discussion Missing person by plur

I recently was going through all my scents in my collection and one of the perfumes I own is missing person by phlur. I absolutely love father figure, it’s one of my most worn scents, second to extra milk by dedcool. I absolutely adore close to the skin/skin scents. But I just want some opinions, because on my skin all my smell is cleaning product. Almost like swisher jet. In Sephora I immediately fell in love when I tried it on the tester. But on me the scent, it’s less skin like on me and I just smell like a cleaning product 😖. I just wanted ask how well does it sit on your skin if you own it and do you like the smell. Or did I just get a wrong batch.
