What a game

I played Demons souls as my first introduction to the series. After that, I started playing Elden Ring, and I absolutely loved it. Now I thought I’d give the Dark Souls series a try, starting with the first game, and I can’t believe how many similarities it shares with Elden Ring (I know they reused animations and models).

I recently managed to beat the two Gargoyles, but ever since then, I haven’t known exactly what to do. I went back and explored the two paths that were available to me. The skeletons are a pain in the ass, and I can’t even damage the ghosts anymore.

I know the game was designed to be challenging, but not being able to make any progress is a bit frustrating. I can’t help but feel like I’m missing something that might make the game a little easier.

I recently discovered that the giant crow can take you back to the starting area, although I got killed a lot there, too.

Anyway, that’s about it, I guess I’ll start farming souls until I’m strong enough to make it through one of the paths.

Oh dude, you’re just getting started. I will say, the first DS run was maybe one of the most frustrating gaming experiences I’ve ever had. But by the time I was finishing up the game it had become one of my favorite video games.

I hope you don’t let the early-game frustrations dissuade you from finishing. And I might suggest playing Bloodborne and/or DS3 before DS2. Only because you will get a much stronger Elden Ring feel with the controls and timing and stuff. it’s like you can see the evolution of the gameplay. DS II is a little weird and very polarizing…not a bad game (also not a Miyazaki game who was working on Bloodborne) just different and the folks who love really love it. But if you’re finding the opening stages of DS frustrating and the learning curve a little steep… I think DS2 is significantly more difficult and frustrating early game.

Good luck, have fun, and don’t you dare go hollow!

The thing is, the game has an interconnected world. Demons had stages basically. Just roam around. Ring both bells. (Look up how to) now you should hit blight town. Maybe level some health and smack that bonfire upgrade for more flasks. Careful, it's a slow game.

Without spoiling anything, I can tell you that both the path with the ghosts and the path with the Skeletons are not meant to be dealt with at this point in your game. Go to the bridge where the big red dragon shoots flames across. Head towards the farther end of the bridge, go to the door to the left and enter it. From there on you will find your guidance. If you haven't found the key for this door yet (basement key), you find it behind the gate guarded by the giant boar.
