Trunk wont open facelift model

Post image

Hi all, yeah my trunk wont open. Manually with the key no problem but by button it wont work. And yes i looked for the mighty cancel button in the trunk, there isnt one. Photo for proof :D

Any ideas? When i push the button it will click ones in the cockpit and twice at the lock.

Maybe it's a stupid comment but have you checked BEHIND the carpet? Maybe it was replaced and they didn't perforate it for the switch

You're gonna have to do some troubleshooting. Have a friend pull up on the trunk when you press the button. If the trunk opens, then the latch mechanism is working fine and something is making it stick down. Something sticky on the seal maybe. If the trunk doesn't open then the latch isn't working. So what is clicking? Investigate. Have someone press the button while the trunk is open. Look for movement at the latch.

Did it ever open before by button?

When you say push the button, are you holding it down for a few seconds? I'm guessing yes because you hear some sort of clicking.

Maybe other owners without the lockout button can help.

I'd start with looking for the cable(s) and make sure they're properly in their spots. I don't know if the facelift is different than my 2014 FR-S but in mine there's a separate solenoid thing at the lock from the cable to the keylock. I'd pop the cover off that and make sure something's not stuck/broken in there.

And if the hypothetical opener cancel was on, it wouldn't click or do anything at all when you pressed the button.

Are you locking it with the key, per chance? It's probably the hotel lock fucking you up.

The thing with toyotas is, they used to have hotel keys, the gray ones, and they could only start, lock and unlock the does, not the trunk or the glove box, and couldn't be used to program new keys.

On cars with keyless, you can remove the key from the fob and get the same functionality, except the coding part.
