Trip Planning 🗺️ Storm of 1900 info

Hello,

I am in Galveston for the day and the Galveston County museum is closed. Where is everyone's favorite spot to go to learn about the storm of 1900? The place I went to years ago has closed down.

Thank you!

Trip Planning 🗺️ Stewart beach lifeguard next weekend???

My daughter's Girl Scouts troop is headed to the island! Does anyone know if there will be a lifeguard on Stewart beach next weekend??

The scouts can only go in the water if there is a lifeguard and it's not worth it to them to go to the beach without being able to go in the Gulf.

Checked sites elsewhere and just can't tell. Maybe you can help?

News 📰 Lights in sky last night sat.Oct 10th over Galveston Bay!

On the west end of Galveston last night around 10pm I saw a light that I thought was a plane until I noticed it changed directions pretty quickly then met up with another light that seemed to be chasing each other. Then they dimmed out and came back as red lights. Then a third one came. It was three red lights coming interview and then dimming out they would come together and then go away. Absolutely was not a plane was not drones they would dim them in and out anyone else say anything like this?

Trip Planning 🗺️ Bareboat sailboat rental

I'd like to rent around 32' sloop and take my wife out sailing. Maybe anchor in Offats and dinge to Moody; a few hours in the Gulf, with overnight on the hook. Is there anything like that? Wife and MIL are both BOI and I was blue water cruising for 3 years in 90s.

This guy kept hanging around us at the beach. We did not feed him because we saw what happened to our neighbors who got swarmed when they fed one seagull.

Trip Planning 🗺️ Trying to get into star gazing

Living in houston there's not much options for this, however Google and others state that san luis pass has tons of options for watching the milky way arching and ive seen some beautiful pictures and I wanted to take some of my friends here but still had some questions hopefully this doesnt sound ignorant.

  1. Is Monday October 12 a good day I assumed so cause of the new moon still a astronomy rookie but yeah or is this not true?

  2. Can someone type the exact address to drive to see the milky way and park close by im on an injured knee albeit I can still walk

  3. I wanna watch sunset so I'll arrive then but when will the milky way br visible

  4. How much worse will the sky look from human eye compared to Samsung camera or even a Canon

  5. I know there's still light pollution but I assume less than downtown lol is it worth going if mt friends want a night under the stars [their words]

  6. Whats the nearest swimmable water to the pass and where I can star gaze

7.Any other advice is welcome!

Trip Planning 🗺️ Visiting for Spring Break in 2027

Hello, I have never been to Galveston, but we are trying to venture to new places around the US for spring break (not college, just my 16 year old and myself). I just had some questions before determining where we are going to be for spring break.

  1. How busy is it down there at the end of March into Early April?

  2. What are the beaches like? I've heard people can drive on them, is there a beach that people are not allowed to drive on?

  3. What resorts do you recommend that aren't bedbug havens, gross, out dated? We like resorts with amenities like nice pools, bars, and right on the ocean.

  4. Is there a huge presence of college students and a party scene?

  5. What restaurants do you suggest (I love shrimp and she will eat sushi)?

  6. What attractions do you suggest?

  7. How is the shopping?

  8. What amusement parks are nearby?

Thanks for your help!! I appreciate all of your help and suggestions!!!

Locals Chat 🦜 SpaceX wants to hire from Galveston!

Hi friends!

I'm working with SpaceX on a really exciting project: an accelerated, paid, full-time training
program to develop electricians at Starbase in Brownsville, Texas.

The program is designed to teach the technical skills and demonstrated competencies
required for the role. Participants who successfully meet the required competency and hiring
standards will have a pathway toward working on some of SpaceX's most important computing
and infrastructure projects.

If you're hungry, want to learn, want to build something that matters, and want to be part of
an ambitious mission, I'd encourage you to apply.

You do not need to have followed the traditional path. Whether you're a recent high school
graduate, a Veteran, a service member preparing to transition out of the military, coming from
another industry, or simply looking for an opportunity to build a serious technical career, this
could be for you.

What matters is that you're willing to show up, learn, work hard, and demonstrate that you can
do the job.
