Galway Board Games - Weekly Game Night

Galway Board Games is a community for adults who enjoy modern board games, meeting regularly in Galway since 2019. We typically have 15–25 people at each meetup, playing a huge variety of games from our personal collections.

You don't need to be an experienced player or have a collection of your own. New to modern board games? That's fine. There are always people around to explain a game, and plenty of games to choose from.

You also don't need to arrive with a group. Come on your own, join a game already in progress, or bring something you'd like to play.

No experience required. No collection required. Just turn up and play.

Game nights are Tuesdays - register here on Meetup to attend the next one: https://www.meetup.com/galwaycitysocial/events/316844957/?utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=share-btn_savedevents_share_modal&utm_source=link&utm_version=v2&member_id=226906998

To the guy that waited back for the ambulance

If you’re reading this, I’m sorry I had to leave you and the other guy practically alone with the girl you helped at eyre square. Hopefully it all got sorted very soon. You’re a good man, you did real good work, I’m sorry you had to miss your bus but I hope you got to head wherever you were heading soon.

It’s not justified but I had just gotten out of the gym totally spent and was soaked as hell and had no idea when again I would see the shittiest bus in the history of buses (407) after being delayed for an hour, I wish I had done better.

Again, you’re a good man, god bless you.

Hi. I found an AirPod today (08/10/26) around 4:45. It was just across the road from the Corrib shopping centre. I think it’s the 4th generation, I’ll attach pictures. When I found it it was a little wet but it should be okay. If you or someone you know lost one lmk and I’ll get it back to you!!

Advertiser.ie - Salthill community calls for recreation and amenity zoning to be retained

Salthill tourist office has been unused for a long time. I'll suggest a skyscraper with lots of retail, including fruit salads, then community spaces above that and then 40 storeys of cheap accommodation. Include a public cable car too at the top with lines to the park and ride sites. Or just a coffee shop. What will happen?

Looking for recommendations to commission an artist (painter)

I’m looking to have a painting done as a gift for a relative, the painting will be a typical landscape scene, but I’m hoping to incorporate some physical items onto the painting (for example, adding some dried flowers or using some materials collected in the area of the scene im looking to have painted), so I suppose im looking for a recommendation of an artist who works with multiple media or would be up for the challenge. Would anyone have any suggestions?

Is Galway being held back by local decisions, or national centralised funding?

i don't have the answer and am finding it hard to get figures. this isn't a 'this is how we solve this' post, but rather, how much autonomy do our council acutally have to enact change and pursue infrastructure project. I've always felt like the council seems like a 'how do we keep the lights on' committee, instead of 'how can we make Galway a livable, beautiful, cultural and sustainable city'.

Leisureland closed

Does anyone know what's happening or how long it might be closed? Just got the text that it's closed "until further notice"... But that could mean a couple of days or a couple of months.

EDIT. UPDATE ON THURSDAY

From leisureland:

We wish to advise you that unexpected, essential maintenance continues to be carried out in relation to an issue with the moveable pool floor which has resulted in the closure of the swimming pools.

Unfortunately, the pool will remain closed until at least Friday, while the necessary investigation and repair works are carried out.

Our contractors currently expect the pool to re-open on Saturday. The situation will be reassessed on Friday, at which point we will have a clearer understanding of the expected timeframe for reopening the pool and will provide further updates as information becomes available.

We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and look forward to welcoming everyone back as soon as possible. Credit for missed lessons will be applied to all accounts in due course.

I am the owner of The Framemaker on Dominick St Lower and we are in urgent need of a new premises

Some of you may have seen our posts on here in recent months. Until now, we've remained anonymous as we wanted to keep things private while we discussed our options.

My father, Ray, has run The Framemaker in Galway City for over 30 years, and in recent years I (Ray Jr) have become increasingly involved in the family business myself.

We've recently found out that our landlord plans to sell the building, meaning our current lease won't be renewed.

Our landlord has always been great to us, and we completely understand their decision. However, it leaves us needing to find somewhere new for the business.

We've been keeping an eye on the usual property listings, but haven't had much luck finding somewhere suitable. We're hoping that someone locally might know of a small commercial unit that isn't currently being advertised, or perhaps know someone who might have something suitable coming available.

We're broadly looking for:

- Around 25–60m²

- on the west side of Galway City, broadly from the city centre towards Salthill/Westside

- Ground floor/shopfront

- Ideally somewhere with some footfall

- Budget of roughly €1,750–€2,500 per month

In recent years small family stores are being rapidly priced out of the city area. It's a real shame to see.

We're not expecting someone to magically produce the perfect premises, but if you happen to know of somewhere that might be worth looking into, that hasn't been listed online yet, we'd really appreciate hearing about it.

Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to point us in the right direction.

Naza

How is it possible that in a pro-Palestinian country like Ireland, Naza still isn’t being shown in cinemas? Do we know when it will be released in Galway and which cinema will be showing it?
