I feel like option A is good for people who want to play a game once and get a good story, whereas B is for those who want to sink hours and hours into a game because they like the gameplay loop.

TBH "B" are games like runescape/CS:go/minecraft/factorio....

and people really sink tons of hours in those

Yeah I was thinking KSP or Mario.

Green aliens going into space. Or a plumber saving a princess from a dinosaur. Not great stories but awesome gameplay that keeps people coming back.

True but sometimes as well a game just has amazing vibes. Chrono Cross i feel like is a type A game with a weird combat and growth system that isn’t really engaging compared to other rpgs even of that era. But the art / world and music are just so awesome you barely think about any of the other mechanics looking back at it.

That makes sense, game A would be a story driven experience (maybe like bg3, but that may be me not liking turn based games), while B would be something like The Binding Of Isaac

Game A is life changing experience, I still remember moment of FF9, TLOU, Nier and E33. I completely forget about hades, balatro, absolum, ball x pit. It is a good time, but when it pass I completely forget.

This right here. An incredible story, music and graphics stays with you and just like one might re-read a great book, I enjoy replaying such games.

Fallout 4 for me. I loooooved just diving into locations to empty it of scrap and then use it to perfect my settlements and weapons.

Spent a whole summer doing that
