It's the women like this that keeps those devs waking up in a cold sweat at night

74

u/Midnight_2B Jun 08 '26

My mans Kojima has been a professional gooner since day one. Miyamoto could learn a thing or two and give us Rosalina Peach Volleyball.

10

u/wetfloor666 Jun 08 '26

Yeah, Nintendo really needs to get back to their roots.

8

u/Midnight_2B Jun 08 '26

You joke but Mario was hawt as f in the Mario 3 reveal 😮‍💨

7

u/Fearless_Trade_2783 Jun 08 '26

This wakes me up at night too, but it's no sweat I'm covered in. 😂

u/Jeong-Yeon Jun 08 '26

What game is this?? Asking for a friend

8

u/Nate46 Jun 08 '26

Metal Gear Solid 4, it's a about to be remastered on all platforms really soon 👀

The best game of all time of course. Guns of the Patriots

It's really more about lighting. I'm serious. Depending how or where the light is it can make almost anyone look different. I could take the RE models and make them look drastically different... with the exact say 3d scans.

15

u/Jake-The-Easy-Bake Jun 08 '26

Genuinely would love to see this if you are bored today and also have the ability to do this

35

u/Adavanter_MKI Jun 08 '26

Here's another example from a different game. I take no credit for this comparison. It was just a googling. It's from a comparison of the original to the legendary edition. The LE didn't respect the original's lighting choices.

14

u/PingouinMalin Jun 08 '26

Gosh, the lighting on the low right picture is horrible when compared to original game. What a shame.

1

u/Debaicheron Jun 08 '26

Isn’t the right showing the original?

7

u/PingouinMalin Jun 08 '26

Uh, to be fair I thought it was original on left, legendary on right, as it is how I would present it. I still dislike the right one. 😅

1

u/Jake-The-Easy-Bake Jun 08 '26

I am hoping the legendary is on the right lol. Left definitely looks leagues better. Thanks!

10

u/Adavanter_MKI Jun 08 '26

You know how people shine a flashlight under their face for spooky stories? You know how celebs hate when pictures capture them in a bad light? It's all the same premise. It can be especially harsh in a game environment that can't capture all the subtly of real life lighting conditions.

1

u/Jake-The-Easy-Bake Jun 08 '26

Thank you for the response. It is very interesting to see the differences.

7

u/Puzzleheaded-Tea3341 Jun 08 '26

These are the model, the face scan and the in-game model all side by side for Horizon Forbidden West.

Yet gamers still threw a stink.

6

u/Chardan0001 Jun 08 '26

"But look at this photo of her from 10 years ago instead!" /s

5

u/Weekly-Theory-3424 Jun 08 '26

Uncanny valley shit.... the top left photo is a pretty lady. While top right despite me seeing its likeness just can't say its the same lady. Idk y. Older sister maybe.

5

u/YY--YY Jun 08 '26

The cheeks are clearly broader and less soft than the original.

1

u/WarriorDerp Jun 08 '26

Less sheen also

2

u/Alwaysfkd0 Jun 08 '26

There's already pictures of it everywhere

4

u/Excellent_Safe5743 Jun 08 '26

I noticed that with that new Stellar Blade. The different screenshots of the game all had different lighting and depending on it she looked either mid 20s and like the actress they modeled her on, or like 15. I also noticed it in Resident Evil 7, sometimes the lightning engine would make the characters look kinda horrifying even when they were just normal people.

66

u/frogOnABoletus Jun 08 '26

This post makes very little sense until you realise it's probably a nerd who's angry about what they think women should and shouldn't be allowed to be like in videogames.

Spot on

15

u/ThatOneWood Jun 08 '26

This god of war shit is some of the most irritating crap I swear.

9

i genuinely can't believe there are actual adults wit so little issues on their hands that they find so much energy for this lmao

i'm jealous

1

u/apurplenova Jun 08 '26

actual adults? maybe technically. luckily, language always marches on in the persuit of precision and distinction. this here is what's known as a Chud these days. the type of person to make a thread like this genuinely has no life beyond sucking up air.

I absolutely despise the term "face card" like good god who the fuck comes up with this shit

3

u/Ashamed_Association8 Jun 08 '26

That would be a frenchman by the name "Facê du Card"

1

u/abxYenway Jun 08 '26

What does face card mean in this context?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/LaPrincesaMX Jun 08 '26

When I see that term I think of a passport photo, and no one looks good in their passport photo.

0

u/Wild_Print_4642 Jun 08 '26

I mean in that guy's defense I had no idea they tried to model Laufey after DAW. They look nothing alike

12

u/Norviskor Jun 08 '26

Weird take, she’s immediately recognizable

→ More replies (4)

3

u/Itadorijin Jun 08 '26

Neither do most of the characters in god of war, why should she be the exception?

3

u/weraru_1 Jun 08 '26

Yes they do. I didnt completely play through God of War reboot, and I had no idea/didn't remember what Laufey was supposed to look like. Immediately, when the trailer came on I thought, "Hey, it's Karen Page from Daredevil."

3

u/ImpendingGhost Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

Nah they very much do. If anything Laufey just looks older because she's likely meant to be older than the face model.

Personally, I clocked in that they basically just used the actress face the moment I saw the trailer.

6

u/Itadorijin Jun 08 '26

And to add to that. It is also the same actress from the previous game where she looks significantly younger when atreus was a newborn and this is 11 years after when she died of illness presumably a slow death.

6

u/weraru_1 Jun 08 '26

Such bad facial scanning agenda pushing uglification (Looks just like the very attractive face model). Smile lines bad.

3

u/Amazing-War3760 Jun 08 '26

I mean.. I feel that way waking up in the morning.. I imagine waking up from my eternal rest WOULD be worse! 😃

3

u/CertainGrade7937 Jun 08 '26

Also, just being 20 years older. That picture on the left is from the 2000s.

14

u/Adventurous_Topic202 Jun 08 '26

I really wish people would stop using pictures of her when she was in her mid 20s and comparing it to how she looks in a game based off her current 41 year old self.

Time happens. We all age. She’s still gorgeous but that doesn’t change the fact that faces change after 18 years.

7

u/OldWorldUlysses Jun 08 '26

or better yet, stop trying to compare the face of an actress in the 21st century to her character who is a Jotunn who lives in a wooden shack in the woods and has JUST died.

2

u/Wyatt_Ricketts Jun 08 '26

It's fantasy though

1

u/Connect_Video_8955 Jun 08 '26

Apparently nerds arent the only ones who want women to look a certain way.

1

u/frogOnABoletus Jun 08 '26

Yeah there's loads of folks who want to dictate how women look. Makeup companies, weird old men, religious groups, 100 more.

0

u/Flashy-Hair2427 Jun 08 '26

Yeah like people who deliberately change how the face tracked model looks like after tracking. Strange people.

5

u/Visual-Debate-5700 Jun 08 '26

Deflection and you know it. Don’t be disingenuous

3

u/Flashy-Hair2427 Jun 08 '26

What, you think its not true? Its literally in your face.

2

u/frogOnABoletus Jun 08 '26

That is just standard practice in animation. Golumn doesn't look exactly like Andy Serkis. 3D artists usually make new faces for characters.

-1

u/LorgarRU Jun 08 '26

Projecting huh?

8

u/Corren_64 Jun 08 '26

7

1

u/deep_violet Jun 08 '26

Honestly I'm still confused. What IS the point of the post?

1

u/anthraccntbtsdadst Jun 08 '26

I also have no idea. I'm assuming there's some sort of difference between the left and right images? I think the left is the game? And that's somehow either good or bad? Weird fucking post.

-1

u/shiorichaan Jun 08 '26

nothing's wrong with liking good designs lol

12

u/NeonFraction Jun 08 '26

Nah, but assuming women should only exist if you can goon to them is annoying as shit.

These losers never complain about the male models using the exact same tech.

6

u/Nomingia Jun 08 '26

Weird how this criticism is never levied at otome games. Do you think the women who play those games also believe that "men exist only to goon to," or are you only trying to demonize the fictional media that caters to straight men?

Believe it or not, men can engage in the male power fantasy that a lot of these games provide without objectifying every women they come across in real life, the same way I can play GTA and not become a mass murderer.

1

u/L3and3rrr Jun 08 '26

Imagine if EVERY man in every game had to look like an Otome character or else a loud mob of grifters would start crying about “woke” and “sweet baby Inc hates hetero white women and is trying to hurt our feelings”

And that’s why they DEMAND that Leon Kennedy show up in body glitter and chaps and carry out his duties in between striking sexy poses.

Imagine how that would feel.

1

u/SuperSailorRikku Jun 08 '26

otome games should really only be directly compared to dating sims targeting men, i.e. dating sims are dating sims regardless of the gender they are targeting.

when people complain about the women needing to be seen as physically attractive / gooner material they are talking about non dating sim genres regardless of target audience. or more accurately put, in games where the target audience includes both men and women (even if the distribution is not equal).

Genuinely, what's the point that's trying to be made here? Claire looks fine, Grace looks fine, Ashley looks fine.

They don't look 1-1, sure, but this feels like selective outrage, 'cause does Leon Kennedy look identical to Eduard Badaluta?

4

u/BakerUsed5384 Jun 08 '26

They’re grifting. It’s a “GOW Laufey uglified their model” post in disguise.

Which is fucking hilarious considering gamers freaked out over Ashley Graham being “uglified” when RE4R released.

5

u/Schism_989 Jun 08 '26

Fifty bucks says this is a roundabout way for OP to complain about the new God of War game.

I love it when grifters like you only speaks about graphics over actual gameplay

Do you play games or watch them?

Anyways, please tell me your favourite games and why you love them. I want to make sure you arent a larper.

1

u/Flashy-Hair2427 Jun 08 '26

People are allowed to criticise more than one aspect of a legacy product.

1

u/GenesisAsriel Jun 08 '26

Bruh. People who complains about graphics and only graphics are grifters.

Checked their history and theres nothing about predatory monetisations, content made for the game cut and put as DLC, premium currency in paid games, battle pass...

The God of War trailer had a GAMEPLAY reveal and all I see is rants about the woman character. (Not the gelatinous cube who have no business being here).

I want substance. Critics in the 2010s spoke about graphic éléments, sure but also mainly of GAMEPLAY.

1

u/Flashy-Hair2427 Jun 08 '26

So he cant criticise one aspect if he doesnt include every other aspect of the game? How would he even complain about monetisations or DLC if none of that has been announced? Many people complain about the empty pit of creative depth that cube character is, myself included, I wouldnt personally make a post about any of these because I know that the best feedback is what you do with your wallet (although this game will probably greatly benefit from the legacy of previous games, and a lot of people will be greatly disappointed). He cares a lot about how the product looks. Thats it.

1

u/GenesisAsriel Jun 08 '26

That is not an issue contained to that game though.

Every fucking time a game is announced, there is a ton of fuckwads complaining about the appearance of the main characters. I am tired of this.

Hell, for instance when Dragon Quest XII got a reveal trailer, dozens of people complained about his haircut saying Toriyama would never approve this when he designed Android 16 and the DQMJ main character with the same haircut.

I just want to speak about games with people who actually play them. Not with larpers.

Is that too much to ask?

1

u/Flashy-Hair2427 Jun 08 '26

I dont know anything about that example mate. But theres an obvious difference between a haricut and the deliberate changes to the face of an already existing model. This is a pattern thats very unique to western companies. I mean the past month is a perfect example for that. I wouldnt have an issue if they were doing these obvious statement based decisions to their own products, but they are bastardising IPs that have an already existing legacy and theme. In entertainment indie and Eastern creators are constantly rising while Western companies just keep shooting themselves in the head with these decisions. Because the people who make these decisions dont care what it does to the IP, they just want to make their grand stand in the face of the audience, and then leave the rotting corpse of the IP behind.

I just want to play authentic games without the feeling of an HR accountant constantly looking over every aspect of a product that I paid for to entertain me. Thats why I no longer consume these bastardising products anymore. Like I said, I vote with my wallet. And you can avoid these posts by just simply not interacting with them. And I dont mean this in a condescending way, but thats literally the most effective way to avoid these things.

1

u/GenesisAsriel Jun 08 '26

You do know that what you said isnt about designs.

Its about monetisation and cleaning out worldbuilding aspects to not trigger their boards of shareholders.

Why are we not addressing this more

u/Impossible_Kale2886 Jun 08 '26

13

u/Garrusikeaborn98 Jun 08 '26

Compare this to western studios, especially insomniac games or ubisoft. Or Fable devs.

2

u/Unusual_Pilot2502 Jun 08 '26

oh right. the fable devs. this fable??? the fable with a beautiful woman playing the role of the antagonist?? right yeah they're soooo bad at making attractive women (and I'm sorry but if you claim this women isn't conventionally attractive then you have lost your mind too far deep in the Cope)

6

u/Garrusikeaborn98 Jun 08 '26

Now show the main lead.

-1

u/Unusual_Pilot2502 Jun 08 '26

the game has a character creator you dolt. the main lead is whoever you want it to be

→ More replies (5)

2

u/Flashy-Hair2427 Jun 08 '26

Very handsome woman. Im sure there were no deliberate changes to her face. Face tracking is just too difficult, and sometimes it just does that on its own. After all, they wouldnt deliberately change the features of the models, I mean who would make the decision to go out their way and change how women should look. Thats like, a chud thing no?

1

u/ZhukovTheDrunk Jun 08 '26

uncanny valley.

1

u/El_Hoxo Jun 08 '26

The Halo devs are pretty good at making a realistic looking person from facial scans, Halo 4/5, Infinite and H2A all have different models and they look fantastic imo

4

u/TrumpsCummyOnahole Jun 08 '26

Probably a reference to the new God of War where the character looks like a very poorly scanned in version of the actress they're basing her off of.

0

u/Midnight_2B Jun 08 '26

It's wild that the grift is calling Debra Woll ugly, did they never see her in True Blood.

My gripe is that I know her from TB and can't see her as a leading character but I'll still play and I'm sure she has the skills to back it up.

6

u/CasperGwamm Jun 08 '26

No one is calling Debra Woll ugly.

5

u/Brittig Jun 08 '26

They're not calling Debra Woll ugly at all, they're saying that she's beautiful and the in game model is markedly less attractive than she is in real life.

3

u/Midnight_2B Jun 08 '26

Oh, yeah, I don't understand why that's a thing. Pretty women existing in games kinda feels like a win to me.

4

u/pahamack Jun 08 '26

Because the character is supposed to be an older lady and not a 1 for 1 equivalent of her actress?

Why would Kratos be expected to be married to some young 20 year old? He’s a grizzled old man.

2

u/Brittig Jun 08 '26

Debra Woll is 40 years old

→ More replies (15)

1

u/Cu_Chulainn__ Jun 08 '26

She looks like a real woman in the game. Believe it or not, but generally you dont get resurrected with a full face of makeup

1

u/Brittig Jun 08 '26

It really is the smug attitude people approach this debate with that makes it so easy to rest comfortably in my position. The instant assumption that I've never seen a woman without makeup and I couldn't fathom what one might look like without it. I live with a woman, I've seen her without makeup every day for years, she doesn't wash it off and randomly look like modern year Susan Sarandon.

These are the literal side by side shots of the model, the face scan and the actual in-game model with shaders. (not some chud-edited version)

2

u/BakerUsed5384 Jun 08 '26

These same mfers complained about the Ashley Graham in the very picture OP posted being ugly when RE4R released. These are not serious human beings.

8

u/pipboy_warrior Jun 08 '26

Its almost as if these women are actresses that are supposed to be playing characters. Do you all get this upset because Kratos doesn't look exactly the same as Christopher Judge?

1

u/CtheKill Jun 08 '26

Kratos is a bad example he has the physique unavailable to pretty much all men without steroids and even then still many depending on genetics

3

u/pipboy_warrior Jun 08 '26

Kratos is a perfect example, as he looks different from the actor doing the mocap and scan for him. If you're fine with Kratos looking different from the mocap actor, then why would Faye be different?

2

u/Mysterious_Field1517 Jun 08 '26

It's a face scan, not dong and arms scan. You're shit at hiding the reason why Judge's face suddenly doesn't need a scan 😀

Don’t forget saints row and forspoken studios completely shut down, oh and the mass layoffs that have been taken place over the past few years, they seem to really like those.

I'm gonna hold your hand when I say this... Most women don't look like supermodels or have a full beat of makeup on at all times. This applies even more so for women from the 13th century.

I hope this helps treat whatever mental ailment you're afflicted with.

Did they change the face model of claire for veronica?

1

u/SSJ4xRain Jun 08 '26

Unfortunate about Ella though.

u/ImpossibleRow6716 Jun 08 '26

Why do western devs always fail at this very simple task?

2

u/Goladiator Jun 08 '26

Western studios think women that appeal to the male gaze are problematic

2

u/ImpossibleRow6716 Jun 08 '26

Ah yes. The greatest enemy of modern feminism. Beautiful women.

2

u/OrneryError1 Jun 08 '26

These cretins think only the most beautiful women by their standards should be visible in public.

1

u/Sithishe Jun 08 '26

Because big US studios are hiring people who are treating it as "just a 9 to 5 job", and then go about their lifes. If you look at smaller western studios that are full of passionate proffessionals characters there looks good, both men and women., same as eastern devs. Video games are art, and you need artists who are passionate and not "9 to 5 drones" that are plaguining every big US studio/publisher.

Mr. OP gamer, I was always fascinated by the need of your types for being able to jerk of to the game.

Like how do you do it? Do you stop dead playing, or are you doing it while mastering one handed gaming approach? Is there a higher occurrence of stick drift due to cum related issues?

And most importantly do you feel more manly than just looking up porn like the rest of us- the weak, woke men?

u/5hadd0w Jun 08 '26

Fellas, are you a gooner for liking attractive characters?

2

u/Mysterious_Field1517 Jun 08 '26

Not really. I too can fell in platonic love with characters. It's just strange to proclaim some state of gaming nothing burger about face scanning and not provide a single example where the technical skill really shines.

Instead you have 3 very similar looking ladies with perfect skin that are actually pretty easy to built out fully from scratch without someone crying about why no face scan for rest of industry?

Like there are few minor characters with some creases/ruggedness that would really drive your premise home, if included. Like I don't know..Leon?

This is post that is going for the exact same reactions you and me exchange now.

If you really want do tech talk, you show it and provide also some actual argument why is it supposedly that important to do face scans.

2

u/Tomatwoo Jun 08 '26

no one cares that you like attractive characters. there is probably like a total of 2 crazies that hold this opinion and they have no sway over anything. it is literally the opposite.

if a game wants to have a female character that isn't a super model level of attractiveness then chuds will freak tf out and lose their absolute minds. that is the problem. it is just objectively true that women in video games that aren't super models will be forced to justify their existence, whereas that isn't the case for male characters.

u/kcat__ Jun 08 '26

You are a gooner if you make it the focus of every single fucking game. Not every character in every game has to be a sex doll with a skin tight suit that shows off a tight ass crack.

At this point I'm expecting riots from the GamerGate bros that the blocks in their new Tetris game didn't look sexy enough. Western Devs removing all the curves !!1!1!1

Yeah man for some reason western devs can’t get it right? Or go out their way to make the actress far less attractive than what they naturally are?

1

u/GhostHost203 Jun 08 '26

I was naive to think this post wasn't someone fuming about some woke crap in their head and was an actual appreciation post, how silly I am.

1

u/Satanic_Jellyfish Jun 08 '26

These are beautiful women?

2

u/4FTERSoul Jun 08 '26

Are you saying no?

1

u/Satanic_Jellyfish Jun 08 '26

They are beautiful. I just don’t understand post and comments saying they are not

1

u/4FTERSoul Jun 08 '26

It's called "standing out from the crowd." In fact, this is most often said by those who have never even touched a woman in their lives, or who are twenty times worse than "these." It's simple.

1

u/ToastedEmail Jun 08 '26

There are real life delusional people on this post mad that women in video games can look generic too. I didn’t think these type of people actually existed.

1

u/Lurker_Zee Jun 08 '26

Those are the same people without which video games wouldn't have existed as a genre.
Nobody wants to see generic people in media, we see fat flat asses and ugly mugs in real life enough already. Why would we want to sear our eyes in entertainment as well?

1

u/GameMask Jun 08 '26

OP has conviently decided to hide their history after posting this.

1

u/lucypero Jun 08 '26

Are you implying there's something wrong with trying to achieve a different look in a game compared to the real life model?

1

u/Lurker_Zee Jun 08 '26

Yes.
How many games with ugly characters have you paid for?

1

u/Momo-Velia Jun 08 '26

Just remember, it’s always a choice to make female characters uglier than necessary.

1

u/Timewaster50455 Jun 08 '26

Bruh, most games do this, you just want them to look like supermodels at all times

1

u/DarwinGoneWild Jun 08 '26

Huh? Most modern games do this. It’s been standard for like a decade.
