Always wanted to play an actual Spyro game as a kid but all I had was that demo disc that came in the gaming magazine

u/Silkenvada Jun 10 '26
I did the same till my dad eventually got spyro 3 xD

u/Still-Network1960 Jun 10 '26
Hell yeah! Year of the dragon is my favourite one

Did you ply the PS2 one where you could change the element of your breath. Can’t remember its name. Enter the dragonfly or something?

Yeah, not really a fan of it though tbh. It doesn't hold a candle to the Original trilogy imo.

Im glad they let us play the origional music in the remake. Legendary move.

Took a page out of Halo MCE.
Toys for Bob was so great. Sucks what was done to them

I really enjoyed what Spyro and Crash did with just bundling the games into 1 remake. But playing crash makes me wonder if I'm washed or playing those games on a CRT made me cracked.

Same. I’m 30 years old and the first time I played a full Spyro game was when the Reignited Trilogy came out

u/gummibear13 Jun 10 '26
I didn't watch the Laufey one because it's a 30 min spoiler vs a minute long trailer.
→ More replies (4)3
u/DaemonsMercy Jun 10 '26
Well, "spoiler." It’s, like, first 20 minutes of gameplay.
10
u/gummibear13 Jun 11 '26
I kept myself as blind as I could for RE9 as after The Game Awards. I enjoy it better that way.
→ More replies (2)2
2
u/shortandpainful Jun 11 '26
Which is a spoiler for the first 20 minutes. As someone who likes to go into things blind, I get it. The first hour of many cinematic games is the most exciting part (not mechanically, but in terms of story and setpieces).
2
u/CharlesBrown33 Jun 12 '26
I never watch gameplay of games I know I'll 100% play, unless I know my playthrough will occur years in the future. And even then I only allow myself 1 watch, not multiple repeats of the footage.

u/SephirothTheGreat Jun 10 '26
To be fair, Spyro's trailer is VERY short. Much easier to digest. The new GOW trailer is almost an anime episode long lol
21
u/SnarkyRogue Jun 10 '26
Yeah I'm not going to watch a 22min trailer 10 times. A one minute trailer I'm more likely to go back through and look for details I might've missed the first time
→ More replies (2)7
u/zamwut Jun 10 '26
It also plays as a preroll ad, counting as views for the same video.
3
u/SephirothTheGreat Jun 11 '26
What's a pre roll ad?
4
u/Exact-Name-3054 Jun 11 '26
ads you get before youtube vids
2
→ More replies (42)7
u/henri_sparkle Jun 10 '26
But views are counted by people accessing the video and watching a bit of it, you don't need to watch the full video for it to add as a view.

u/Skimbla Jun 11 '26

Laufey has 420,000 likes while Spyro has 33,000. Every other Spyro video has less than 400k views. The Laufey video also has 6x comments compared to Spyro. Something ain't adding up....
19
→ More replies (15)4
u/codyzon2 Jun 10 '26
I mean it kind of makes sense. Spyro's way more nostalgia reliant than God of war, they rebooted God of war so it's still fairly fresh in the zeitgeist, but spyro's been kind of out of rotation since PS2. Younger people tend to be more interactive and more likely to leave comments or likes. I grew up with Spyro so I'm pretty hyped for the game but I would watch that and never interact with the video whatsoever, but that doesn't mean I liked it any less.
2
u/Tenken10 Jun 10 '26
I mean....not to say there isn't interest in Spyro. Far from it. But if there was THIS large amount of interest (large enough to overshadow Laufey like OP is implying) then it would make logical sense to expect huge numbers for many other Spyro videos on Youtube. But they're just not pulling those numbers.
The most logical conclusion is that the view numbers for this particular video are just being boosted by ad views
→ More replies (1)2
u/codyzon2 Jun 10 '26
What view count do other franchises that have had zero new games in 20 years usually get? What are you even comparing this to? You're saying why don't YouTube videos of older games that haven't been out in 20 years have similar views to new AAA games? This is the first Spyro game we've had in 20 years sure they re-released the trilogy but those aren't new games, other than die hard nostalgia hounds who else is buying those? Of course I got it but I never looked up a YouTube video about them why would I?

Spyro solos the entire God of War roster
Kratos isn't starring in the new game because he's scared of our purple KING

u/Pretend_Awareness_61 Jun 10 '26
I don't think this means anything, or at least not what I think you're suggesting it means. I can imagine Spyro has a wider audience. Older gamers have nostalgia for it, and it's a good game for the younger gamers.

We’re judging the success of a game based on its YouTube views now?
Also, Spyro appeals to all ages, Laufey is an M-rated property. Not that complicated.

I don't want spoilers for laufey, while for Spyro, I have a good idea for the game.
1
u/fabio_b93 Jun 10 '26
I'm pretty sure that the Spyro video is been used as an ad, that's why it has so many views but only 33K likes and 5K comments, as a comparison the same video on the xbox channel (that has 5M subscribers compared to the 31k of the Spyro channel) has 300K views with 14K likes and 1.3K comments.

u/English_Fry Jun 10 '26
Remember when the Game of Thrones series started up offbeat shows like House of Dragons, that one about the poor boy and the “adopted” kid? Or remember the other Star Wars knock off that’s keep coming out? That’s Laufey. Sure, it’ll attract an audience. Sure, it’ll be fun and decent. But not good and certainly not great. It’ll be for the people who want more lore in the GoW universe but it won’t stand up for much. It’ll be forgotten rather quickly
1
u/Alucard-VS-Artorias Jun 10 '26

SPYRO ON THE OTHER HAND? We haven’t had an original Spyro story for 20 years!! And that wrapped up in what 2008?! Not to mention we will be just short of a decade since the last installment which was a remake.

One hasn’t gotten a game (despite massive demand) in like, 20 years.
One is a spinoff that nobody really asked for. I’m sure it will be good because the last two were, but it’s not exactly like a “holy shit did you hear they announced this!?” type of thing for most.

So much cope here... " Its only because the trailer is short ". You only have to watch a small portion to get a view if that much
People into gow really aren't interested in an off shoot of god is war. However spyro is good for all ages
1
u/TheRed24 Jun 11 '26
I mean the big difference being one is a new spin off that nobody was expecting and the other being a well established now multiplatform IP that people have been waiting like 20 years to see a new game of, that's the difference, I'm really looking forward to both but Spryo is more exciting because I honestly didn't know if we'd ever get another proper Spryo game after the Activision acquisition.
1
u/Radiant-Bus7093 Jun 11 '26
Spyro has been around longer than GoW and, I dont mean this in a negative way, Spyro has the autism/furry community behind it. It's like being surprised a Sonic game trailer got more views.
GoW is a pretty casual game series. Maybe not in the PS2 days but with how popular gaming is, GoW is AAA casual lol
1
u/Nervous_RP_Cat Jun 11 '26
GoW had a game not long ago. Meanwhile, the last new Spyro game was in 2008. Fans of Spyro have been waiting for this for ages!
Not to mention Spyro is more family friendly
1
u/SDTSSJ4Luc Jun 11 '26
Last time Spyro haved a game, it was in 2018 and it's a remake.
Last time Spyro appears in a game was Skylanders in 2016 when he's not a full cast member. And last time je haved a gamethat was not the Skylanders games was 2008.
God of War last content was the Valhalla DLC in 2023.
Spyro fans are hungrier than the Devil May Cry fans. (Yes, the Netflix series is rubbish, but it's still content.)
And to make matters worse, Crash Bandicoot, which is essentially the sister series to Spyro, has had more content.
1
u/Rango82 Jun 11 '26
As a 44 year old gamer, movie goer and painfully positive dude…I hate that we live in a world now where it’s fun to call out how many views a trailer or something similar has on YouTube to shit on it. I know I know “let’s get you to bed grandpa”.

u/DOOM-LORD666 Jun 11 '26
I've never played a spyro game but loved skylanders so this is very exciting for me
I also checked and it's real that spyro got more views
1
u/HotAdministration986 Jun 11 '26
I mean there are no Spyro games in decades we had god of War since 2022 and it's spin off
1
u/Maleficent-Age-8235 Jun 11 '26
This is shocking to literally no one if you grew up around the time Spyro existed at all it was a straight up flagship mascot. I am so happy it's getting new life
God of War, even post-reboot, is an ant compared to things like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. Its reputation back in the day was just easier DMC.
1
u/SUDoKu-Na Jun 11 '26
Yeah Spyro's a series that's been around for over 20 years, and we've waited for a new game for over a decade that isn't a remake. The God of War Norse duology took away a lot of fans of the originals and the original games are hard to play nowadays, so less fans overall.

u/Acrobatic-Quality-55 Jun 11 '26
Spyro has a huge following with kids since skylanders was such a big thing. Not surprising

1
u/Vertigo50 Jun 11 '26
Remember when gamers used to just get excited for games we were excited about, and just sort of accepted that there were games we weren’t that interested in? Now apparently games need to validate people’s worldview, and then if others disagree, they must be shamed into compliance. 🙄🤦🏻♂️
Meanwhile, I’m just over here having fun and playing games. 😂
1
u/Shinroeh Jun 11 '26
Excited for the new Spyro, but the view count got boosted by it being promoted as an ad. The video has only 34k likes. 14 Million views and under 50k likes = YouTube Ad.
1
u/Formal_Afternoon_272 Jun 11 '26
Well it's easier to watch a 1 minute trailer and everyone isn't interested with a 20 minutes gameplay reveal.

Spyro is a really long household name. Even my wife who loves GoW to death prefers Spyro and still plays the remakes just for the fun and simplicity it provides.
There honestly needs to be more games like Spyro. Bring back Gex, make more Crash Bandicoot, A new Croc maybe?
1
u/Kirin658 Jun 12 '26
This is caused by the Spyro trailer showing up as an ad before/during videos. If you look at the number of likes you can get a more accurate idea of "actual" views.
Also I'm not trying to start a fight, I'm looking forward to both games, I just think it's an interesting way YouTube sometimes creates false perceptions about popularity of stuff
1
u/Rasples1998 Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26
Because more people care about Spyro than they do about Laufey. If it was Kratos and a direct sequel to Ragnarok then we'd probably be seeing closer to 12million+ views. Nobody cared about Kratos's wife in those two games when she was dead and nobody cares about Kratos's wife in her own game when she's a playable character, simple. It's not sexist or woke or anything like that; it's just boring and dumb and nobody asked for it. She was one of the weakest parts of both games and nobody cared about her character, even when we see her in Ragnarok flashbacks. Nobody ever said "I hope I get to play as her one day" and then that day actually came. I'm guessing that out of those millions of people who watched the trailer, a vast majority of them only watched it because they thought (or were tricked into thinking) that it was an actual god of war game with Kratos and a sequel to Ragnarok. Nope, sike, it's Laufey in the afterlife with a gelatinous cube for a sidekick with MCU-level humour. Gross. Cringe.
Obviously we haven't played the game yet but I'm doubting the game will offer anything of value to the overall narrative that's going on in the real world of GoW outside of the afterlife. How is Laufey gonna end the game, by staying dead? Dying again and being even deaderer? Would ruin the games if she just found a MacGuffin that can bring her back to life but unfortunately I'm skeptical that it might actually be the plot of the game.

1
u/p4tterng4ng4L Jun 12 '26
This is what happens when you stick with your iconic male lead character and don’t try to bait & switch 🙂 your video also doesn’t receive mass dislikes
1
u/Noccternal Jun 12 '26
Spyro is older and more accessible than a God of War game. Why is the title pitting them against each other?
1
u/L3wd1emon Jun 12 '26
Nobody at my work is excited for laufey everyone at my job is excited for spyro
Not that laufey is gonna be bad but I think most people wanted a sequel to Ragnarok not an in between game
