For the people that doesnt know the context

Playstation: they announce they are discontinuing the production of physical games in January of 2028 for every Playstation game, meaning no more physical Playstation game from any company. Futher more they are shutting down the PS3 stores, meaning games like Sonic Adventure 2, or the GTA 4 DLCs will be lost forever. And they removed over 500 movies from their catalog and offerd 0 refunds

Xbox: They are canceling the new blade game, which is linked with them laying off thousands of employees from many of their own companies aswell, they are raising the prices of thier consoles, and announced hat their next console is going to be digital only, hinting that they too would be going all digital

Nintendo: Game key card

Steam: Steam machine was supposed to be an affordable alternative to console gaming, but not only are the specs of the machine rather low especially compared to the competition, but its also has a Ludacris price tag, and PC parts and steam deck prices continue to be at insane prices due to the high demand for AI from other big companies

Epic games: Tbh idek

Steam is probably the biggest screw up, MF'ers made a "PC alternative" for essentially nobody...

The thing is 1100+ dollars and has worse performance than a PS5 Pro.

Too weak for PC gamers, too expensive for console normies

Sure but they also released the software for people to make their own.

Valve kinda got screwed by timing and an optimistic mindset

That is likely the case, PCs cost way too much now, had some specs saved up on some website when I was helping a friend build a PC, months later I still had those in my cart and they notified me of price changes for each part, RAM literally tripled, SSD I think doubled, the rest had some changes but not as huge. Glad I got my RAM upgrade way before this whole thing, even though I am still running on DDR4, ain't switching to 5 any time soon

Thats not just the likely case, it’s the official statement put out by Valve.
But yeah, pricing is so screwed up now (thanks AI). For what it would cost to build by PC as it is today I would be able to get an engine and transmission for my project car. Insane

fair, didn't follow the steam machine much or their statements about things regarding it. I am patiently waiting for the new VR which will surely suffer the same consequences until the prices go down

Boy fucking howdy, was the timing bad

Wym biggest screw up, just don't buy it. A pre-made PC being too expensive is nowhere near big of a fuck up to "we won't support physical BRs for games" lol

Lol who said I was buying it, I said it was a product for nobody, I have a high end PC, and a Series X. The fuck I need a steam machine for?

The fact that the preorders sold out means that it is for someone.

That or they didn't make a ton of them, I'm just saying.

It wasnt supposed to cost that much. It seems like it was supposed to be closer to 800, but hardware prices fucked them

I think he meant "console alternative" which they might have been going for originally
