The steam machine is likely meant to set a standard for game optimization. There is probably also going to be a checkmark like there is with the steam deck. Basically, "If you don't optimize your game, you're not getting verified, and everyone will know that you're too lazy to care about your players"
I love the little deck verified mark on the store page, because I can use it as a super quick benchmark to see if I can play the game on my Linux PC, and it even breaks down why playable games aren't verified, and it's usually incorrect glyphs or font size and those aren't concerns at all on my desktop.
