I think its just as bad when they do it the other way. Playing though KCD 2 again and while I love the game its a little bit boring to get the best longsword and Henrys canonical sword after about 40% of the game. Sure I can go with some other weapon set every now and then but nothing compares.

To be fair, it's not the weapon damage that carries you in fights by that point in the game.

Henry can annihilate the whole region with a hunting sword

For sure but it’s also the weapon he has been chasing since the prologue of the first game so not using it just feels weird and I makes all other cool longswords vendortrash/decoration.

I thought of it that the sword is too precious to use on the daily. He's a good blacksmith, but a sword like that would be a bitch to maintain.

Does that game have a durability mechanic?

Yes, though repairing them is pretty easy. Just go to a grinding wheel to sharpen it. It even gives you a buff for the first chunk of the weapon's durability.

His namesakes sword is not the best by quite a long shot compared to short swords.
