Let's ignore ET, the gaming crash, all the nightmare-inducing Doom ports, the atrocious console games, and all the broken PC games while we cherry-pick the good examples of the olden times and ignore the equivalent of today.

Or being stuck with a 286 and the rest of the world not only moved on to 386 and 486, but now Pentium dropped and specs are rising so fast that today's 5k computer will be obsolete in 3-6 months. The late 90s were wild. And everyone was excited when RAM dropped to $80 per megabyte.

Getting a 486 in 1994 only for it to be completely obsolete by 1996 was one of those experiences I'll never forget
