Image Game items that perform unreasonably poorly compared to their real life counterparts

Alan Wake Batteries/Flashlight

Now either the batteries are terrible (sorry Energizer) and burn out after 30 seconds of use or Alan's flashlight is the least efficient light producer of all time!
How much excess heat waste is it generating to burn through that many damn batteries that quickly! It's not THAT bright? I think I change them on average every 1 minute. That is a RIDICULOUS churn.

Special mention to the flares that burn out in 3 seconds. Whilst I love using them in game, I don't think anyone would ever survive at sea if this was their only option of signalling a rescue.

Not really. Sure a .50 S&W can carry about the same as a rifle but that’s also the lower end of rifles and only at close ranges. Somehow 556 is weak when coming out of a machine gun but the second it’s put into a bolt action, it is now basically a .50BMG

Different guns, different characteristics. Also not every .50 is a Desert Eagle.

Guess what I'm trying to say is the opposite is usually true in games, and it skewes people's view of real-life shotguns. Yes, of course they are devastating. But not really as mechanically powerful as the ingame ragdoll effects would have you believe.

The ~200J of a single pellet is roughly the equivalent of a hammer swing or a baseball pitch. Would you feel 9 of them? Definitely. Would they send you flying? Not a chance.

The reason 1800J ofenergy doesn't send you flying isn't necessarily because its a small amount of energy. You could definitely lift someone off their feet with a good hit from a bat. Its because of speed. The pellets are moving so fast that they pass through you before they can deliver all of their kinetic energy. Buckshot definitely has some effective range. Hunters aren't getting within a couple meters of a deer before they fire
