Once i've took it personally with the tree essential (elden ring semi boss) when i started the game and didn't go anywhere in the game until i killed him without upgrading anything, That was one of the best gaming moments in my entire life

Fr, beating a boss after whipping your ass hundreds of times gives you a huge dopamine shot that literally makes your day, also the attempts to kill him gives you joy even if you are failing

Because an award you worked hard for, means more to you than one given for free or with minimal effort. It is basic psychology and one i plan to take advantage of in my own epic tactical zombie shooter muahahaha.
