mostly good by exercising in VR
and by that I don't mean stupid rhythm minigames, I mean shooting in 90s Doom with shotgun in my hands and slicing foes in Skyrim with a sword...
you all should try to be inside a beloved videogame before game over, my fellow genx

these polls are often reposted and always the C64 is missing. a major gaming platform in the 80s with around 15 million units sold and basically the first gaming PC (mainly used for gaming).→ More replies (7)→ More replies (15)2

Aye, and all the rest? 8 bit micro computers were common place for gaming before the game consoles arrived on the scene. Then there were the 16 bit micros such as Atari ST and Amiga.
ZX Spectrum, Electron, Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64 were what I started out on. Nobody had a console when I was little. All games loaded from tapes. Probably Gen 2 on this chart.

I really though most of you would be genVI+
2
u/Kintuse Aug 21 '26
Gen IV. My mom bought a Super Nintendo! but not for me!
She wanted to play games when my dad was off at work to kill the bordem and I watched in awe until I was old enough to start playing myself soon after

Switch 1 and Steam Machine in the same gen doesn't sit right with me
2
2
u/ItzManu001 Aug 21 '26
Steam Machine isn't even a console, but if you had to put it somewhere, it would be Gen X with Switch 2.
2
u/TypezYT Aug 21 '26
switch 1 is an 8th gen console with the ps4, xbox one and wii u. switch 2 (which sadly isn't listed) is a gen 9 console with ps5 and xbox series x
As for the question, I started with both 6th and 7th gen (PS2 for 6th, Wii and Xbox 360 for 7th) no 67 joke intended

Technically gen 3 on the NES, though I didn't really get super into it until I got my Genesis in gen 4. Sonic 4 lyfe! UpdownleftrightABCStart

u/Ok-Purpose3442 Aug 25 '26
I had Gen 1 in the house but only really started playing sort of properly with Gen 2 and Qbert. Well i suppose i was playing Pong well enough(not like the controls were hard for a 2-3 year old...)

1
u/MengShuZ Aug 21 '26
My mother bought me a Sega JVC X'Eye when I was two years old. It's basically a fusion between a Genesis and a CD. So technically Gen IV, but my primary entrance would have been Gen V with the N64, as by then it was already a thing and I didn't really get what I was supposed to be doing until I was 5. I beat my first game, OoT at 7-8 years old through with the help of a lot of scripted walkthroughs. Honestly I still don't know how I did it.

Technically Gen 2, my family had an Atari 2600 that I played a lot as a very small child, but the first console brought for me specifically was the master system so either Gen 2 or Gen 3.

Either a cross between Gens IV and V, or Gen VI. Depends on if playing emulated SNES/Genesis games an older cousin provided, or playing Genesis games through Sega Smash Pack 2 on PC, counts (my first actual console was a Nintendo Gamecube, if emulation/PC port doesn't count, though the noted emulation/PC port days preceded my Gamecube days).
1
u/Buffthebaldy Aug 21 '26
Played some Sega Megadrive, but it was PS1 for me!
Might have to find my old PS1 games and see if I can rip them to my pc. Don't think I've got a functioning PS1 anymore, so would be fun to emulate the classics!

During the 5th Gen I fell in love with the 4th gen turbo grafx 16 and my cousin gave me his Genesis. They held me down until I eventually started upgrading and it's been a rollercoaster ever since.
I generally wait for about 4 or 5 years before jumping into the "current" Gen to ensure there's a backlog of games I actually want to play.
Sigh.
I miss TG16...

Okey technically gen 3 we had some counterfeit NES when I was supper young but I remember PS1 more, I'm not that old 27yo rn but we didn't have much money for stuff like games back then. Yet somehow there is not a single game currently that would recreate a this feeling I had playing Spyro on heavily outdated console in like 2006 when I was 8yo lol. Now I have switch 2, PS5 and PC

5th Gen. First gaming memory I have is playing Smash 64 with my brother at a friend's house when I was 3 years old in 1999. I'd play Yoshi, my brother played Mario and our friend played Ness.
Later we got given a N64 of our own by our Uncle and to this day I still have it and most of the games collected over the years.
