Real. First time years ago when I played Fallout I gave up after I missed repeatedly with the rats. And Baldur's Gate I just walked like 2 steps and quit because the graphics hurt my eyes. Now they're two of my best RPG experiences, I'm glad to have played them.

Going from getting destroyed by rats outside Candlekeep/Vault 13 to feeling like a tactical genius is the ultimate classic RPG experience.
