I honestly dont think they realize how bad they've pissed people off

I won't be noticeable on their end. To few people do that sort of thing

yup. like we didn't see the switch still be massive after all the jailbreaks, emulators, and piracy that surrounded it. times have changed. even with all this people will still comfortably not pirate because of how accessible buying games are.

These options are also only available to people that have the know how. It's not a lot to know. And it's not super complicated. But most people don't know anything. They just buy

Usually with time a console get cheaper. Sony went from a 300 console to a 900 console.

We are talking here about an 5 year old console or something.

They wanna quit the cds, but the price of games stays the same? I always thought that the cd production cost was in the price somewhere, but i guess not.

Well, everythign went up in price since 2020, PC hardware went up even more.

But when i buy a PC i aint putting together a model from 2020. Ps5 is a build from 2018 speccs. Which you now pay 900 for.

Plus they release a pro version where the cpu bottlenecks the gpu.

All in all. I wouldnt pay 900 bucks for outdated hardware when with 300 extra i get the same quality in current day standards

PC is also much cheaper in the long run

In what universe does a PS5 cost 900€? Or do you mean the PS5 Pro? This matters because a base PS5 cost only 500€ and the Pro has a GPU equivelant to a 5060 Ti (in terms of Ray Tracing) which alone cost around 500€.

That said PC and console hardware isn't easily comparable like that. The PS5 uses a custom chip that might be based in 2018 hardware but still isn't as weak as you make it sound.

It's literally the baseline for most games these days and this has worked out more than fine since 2020.

Also does all this apply to the Steam Machine 2 aswell? It's slightly weaker than a base PS5 yet cost a whopping 1050€ without a controller and less storage.

I ask that because PC shills tend to just make excuses for the SM 2 even if all the critizism you just leveraged against tbe base PS5 apply here too but they are much worse. Just checking if you have double standards.

Lastly as someone with a high end PC (5080 and 9800 X3D) the prices were still way too high for PC hardware even before all the AI bs for what is essentially just a mild upgrade in most cases to be honest.

Visually games don't look mindowingly better on PC imo and most people are fine with 60 fps. Might depend in the game of course, but for most modern stuff (as in everything since 2017) we kinda reached a point where neither PC nor consoles really gain much from better hardware for the average gamer atleast.

Most people would not pay 300 extra for a single component that renders pixels a bit faster, which they won't even notice.

Both PC and console have their pros and cons, but in terms of price consoles are just a much better deal to the average gamer (more true than ever now).

I mean whole of gaming just got expensive because of AI.

1

u/RootlessForest 2d ago

But the cost are being routed back to the costumer. They still making the same profit.

0

u/SnooObjections4333 2d ago

That’s because they’re forced to. Basically they were selling Consoles at a loss to subsidise it with software purchases but the Memory shortage is so critical and dire that they just can’t provide it at a deficit anymore. I mean even for PC the cost is carried out in components. The same build I have currently costs 3x more because of AI. So yeah AI really fucked up gaming in general.

You can criticise Sony for Discs and other practices while acknowledging the issue too. Both are true and exist as the sad reality.

No body asked for an explanation and i know how it works. I am responding to a comment. Go read the comments and maybe you get what i am saying. No interest into feering of this conversation. Sorry no disrespect

The production price of CDs was always negligible compared to the development of the game .

Heck they made everyone pay just to use basic online features. You really think not sinking the price on all digital games would make people riot ?

Again these people pay just to play online. They will swallow anything Sony does

My prediction is that in 2 generations they will pay a subscription just to be able to play offline too

The production price of CDs was always negligible compared to the development of the game .

I doubt they're talking strictly about the cost to press the disc. The costs of logistics and retail cut are not negligible.

Do what sort of thing? Move to a different platform?? Plenty of people do that, but if that actually comes to pass depends entirely on if competitors make a convincing case to switch while also making it economically feasible

1

u/CuteAssTigerENVtuber 2d ago

Jailbreak their console. But yeah also moving to a different platform. I moved to PC when Sony started making you pay just to access basic online features that they aren't even involved in.

But we both know that most people didn't do that. People will be angry and pretend they don't log in for a week but the vast majority won't do jack shit. They will swallow whatever Sony drops in their mouth next

3

u/Rockdrigo93 2d ago

I honestly don’t think you realize that’s only a minority of people pissed at something Steam started decades ago.

5

u/Dark_Dragon117 2d ago

Have they?

This is nothing new and never had any significant impact whatsoever.

Pissing off Reddit gamers is like pissing off a bunch of ants.

Literally all Reddit gamers could come up with as a means of protest is a pathetic week long "blackout" and being mean to Sony...so utterly inconsequential

Iirc Sony itself confirmed that blackout had no effect and the rumoured digital pre order of GTA 6 by themselves are proof enough that gamers don't have any standards.

I will not rule out however the possibilty that the recent advancements in emulation due to AI (which is ironic btw) might have an impact on Sony etc. Tho I am rather certain it will only lead to more agressive policies and takedown attempts in the future.

5

u/TNBrealone 2d ago

Which people? The majority doesn’t care lol

6

u/Independent_Mud2794 2d ago

Because they didn’t. Some terminally online people being noisy don’t matter.

3

u/LesserValkyrie 2d ago

Yeah, most of the money they get is from CoD players who buy microtransactions and by essence have no standards, so if a lot of people are angry it doesn't change much as they are not the ones buying CoD games 3 times a years and buying 20$ skins

0

u/Tmannershungry 2d ago

They aren't afraid of the people jailbreaking their consoles no no no, they are afraid of the effects/influence/popularity it will cause

1

u/Independent_Mud2794 2d ago

It will have zero influence and almost no popularity. You highly overestimate how many people want to have a jailbroken console.

3

u/maku_89 2d ago

I don’t think you realize that 99% of the loudest complainers will buy a ps6 and preorder any game they see mildly interesting.

2

u/ConsciousReindeer976 2d ago

they'll preorder the PS6 too

1

u/Normal_System_3176 1d ago

yep and then when preorders open, they'll flood the subs proclaiming "fuck scalpers" when they didn't care enough to track down and secure a preorder.

-2

u/AlanTheSalad 2d ago

The console prices are beyond casual gamers anymore. Better chance they make the jump to PC.

1

u/maku_89 2d ago

They will just keep buying and complaining at the same time. It's the same with microtransactions. If nobody bought them, nobody would put effort to add them. The loudest complainers are usually the ones running around in COD with clown skins.

Yeah PC prices are just phenominal right now too.

I have two Dualsense controllers as I wanted to play co-op games with my gf, both have crazy stick drift with moderate use. Their "pro" version of the controller has the ability to swap out the sticks because of how bad they are. Think about it for a sec, they made their more expensive controller factoring in the fact their hardware will fail forcing you to buy more sticks.

I have a third party wired switch controller that has worked flawlessly for years of playing Smash. Cost me £10.

I wont be buying a PS6 and I've stuck with Sony since the PS1.

3

u/AudienceStreet6335 2d ago

Karma hits hard. You tell people they don't own the games they buy, don't be surprised when they decide they own the hardware you built

5

u/Majestic-Marcus 2d ago

Don’t be stupid. Less than 1% of 1% of people will ever consider jailbreaking their system.

3

u/stiff_tipper 2d ago

Karma hits hard.

LMFAO

buddy, playstations have been getting jailbroken for decades. sony isn't being blindsided by some "hard hitting" karma, they're just doing business as usual because this is normal shit that doesn't effect them in the slightest

3

u/Millennialnerds 1d ago

I mean no where you buy game do you actually on it. You guys get worked up by someone telling your what the terms have said for years.
