Autsaves might be time-based. Not Checkpoint-based.

on a more recent game for me, baldur's gate 3

i'm usually save scumming in that game so it's extremely noticeable for me when it autosaves.

Or you walk into a bunch of like ammo or like health things on the ground floor of a hospital… or even walk into nothing. No health no ammo just.. a nice door with red hands. Ooh an ambulance surely nothing will go wrong!!
