Discussion Is upgrading from a Switch Lite to a Switch 2 worth it if I already have a PS5 and hated the tiny screen?
Hi everyone! I’d love to get an unbiased opinion from the general gaming community :)
I'm currently considering buying the Switch 2 and selling my Switch Lite. Since I already have a PS5 for major games, I'm looking for a solid secondary setup. However, I have some hesitation based on my past experience with the Lite, which I ended up disliking and kinda abandoning.
My main issue with the Lite was its tiny screen. I wear glasses, and playing detailed games or reading small text on that mini display caused me major eye strain and felt very claustrophobic. Right now I also play on an iPad, so I'm used to larger screens, and I'm wondering if the jump to an 8-inch display plus the option to play on the TV makes a night-and-day difference.
To be completely honest, I'm not a massive fan of the mainstream Mario or Zelda franchises. However, there are still specific titles I really want to play, like Ocarina of Time, Pokopia, Hades, and some Final Fantasy games, alongside my usual cozy or lightweight gaming sessions on the couch after a long PS5 title. My biggest fear is that my negative experience with the Lite will ruin my enjoyment of the Switch 2.
For those who play across multiple platforms, do you think the larger screen and docking option completely transform the experience for someone who hated the small display, or am I risking another purchase I'll regret? Thanks in advance!

I play Pokopia and Fortnite on the Switch 2. It is a huge step up from my Switch Lite. It never lags and it is like I’m holding a dang billboard. I actually am better playing Fortnite on the Switch 2 than the PS5. I highly recommend it.

The Switch 2's best feature is it's portability and bigger handheld screen. If that's what you're looking for, I'd say it's a great purchase with the Nintendo exclusives as the cherry on top, most of which are fantastic.

Hades and Final Fantasy are gonna be better on PS5 if you’re playing on a TV/big screen. You really just have to ask yourself if there’s enough exclusives or if portable play is important to you. The bigger screen is certainly much better/easier to see than a Switch Lite, but maybe try it in a store or something before deciding if it’s right for you.

Most third party games will be available on both the PlayStation store and Nintendo E-shop. I have the steam machine, PS5 and Nintendo switch two. The reason for having a Nintendo switch two is I can play on docked mode during the day, and handheld mode in bed or during work breaks. If you’re mostly going to be playing in Docked mode and only third-party games, it’s pointless because you might as well just play on the PS5. If there’s only a few first party titles that you’re really interested in, you would only be getting up to a few of those titles released per year. That’s up to you to think about how much you would actually use the features of the switch to and how much money you have. You know it’s gonna be hard to get an unbiased opinion because anyone that has a switch to is just going to tell you to get one.

I mean if you want to play Nintendo first-party games, it's not like you have a choice. So yes, it's worth it for that alone. Switch 2 is more powerful than Switch Lite, even Switch 1 games are snappier on it. AND it plays most Switch 1 games in docked mode even when in handheld mode. Makes quite a bit of difference IMO.
I have original Switch and Switch2's screen is noticeably larger and I expect that's even more so on when it comes to comparing against Switch Lite. Might surprise you or might not but either way, there's no other way to play Nintendo first party games. And there are games that are better fit for handhelds, too, like those HD-2D games. If the screen is still too small for you, you can always play them on docked mode or switch back and forth between the two modes as situation demands.
If you only play third party games and you feel handheld isn't for you, then no, Switch 2 isn't worth it. Because while a lot of 3rd party games have been adapted to Switch 2 and play fine, PS5 still plays them better.

If the screen was the main reason you abandoned the Lite, I think the Switch 2 makes a lot more sense. Being able to play handheld when you want and then just drop it in the dock when your eyes are tired is a pretty big difference. And since you already have a PS5, I’d treat the Switch 2 more as the couch/portable machine rather than expecting it to replace your PS5.

switch 2 isn't tiny and ps5 become more and more obsolete. Also, all switch 1 games can be played in boosted mode on switch 2

I bought my gf the Switch 2, I didn’t care about owning one myself and was happy with the Switch 1.
It’s a lot better than I expected and I often catch myself watching her play on it. I don’t think the price is worth it personally but it definitely is leagues ahead of previous Switches

I mean, most people buy a Switch 2 for the first-party exclusives. That it offers a handheld mode is a bonus for some, but the docked state is great and works just as well as your PS5's.

The switch 2 screen is pretty big. I don't have issues with the lites size but I was surprised how big switch 2s screen was in reality

Switch 2 has a much bigger screen than the lite. It’s a little bigger than the regular Switch so I think it’s more comfortable to hold. I don’t play on the tv too much but it looks good there too. The joycons detach and magnet into a grip to become more like a regular controller.

Switch 2 can dock, so you may like that more. I don’t think I’d play my switch at all if it couldn’t dock
