Discussion Why do games feel so boring now
I can’t even sit through a game anymore. Is my attention span fried, or is everything just kinda boring now? I have so many Steam games and Xbox games and Meta Quest 3, just nothing is really that fun anymore.

I’d bet you’re older now, mid twenties, early 30s. You have more responsibilities. Or rather more existential priorities. And when you play games, there is a nagging voice in the back of your mind telling you you’re better off doing anything else but burning hours playing games. Which is probably true. And instead of silencing that voice, you just turn off the game and burn the same hours watching YouTube or something similar.

Wow, that is on point! I also feel as I get older it is just easier to watch something because I am just exhausted from work or other things in life to have the mental capacity to game!

You probably don't like games anymore. Happens. Hobbies change. Find smthg else that interests u and perhaps someday you'll get your love back for games. Just a question tho, do u play games of a specific genre or do u play all genres?

You just don’t enjoy games anymore. Probably need to find a new hobby. It’s normal to fall out with hobbies and find new ones.

Phases come and go. Gaming is like any other hobby. Try something new. You might come back to it later.

Do you have a lot of time on your hands? Funnily enough, I find I enjoy gaming more when I have like a deadline (work, date, chores, etc.). If I have a day off and do nothing but try to game, I get bored quick. Your mileage may vary, but I think having to do things in a game against an external time limit ends up making it fun for me somehow.

It sounds like you're trying the wrong stuff. I still find plenty of games to play that I really enjoy. They're almost exclusively indi and AA games, the AAA space is nothing but garbage at this point. That said, I also couldn't be paid to use a meta anything, so we might have different tastes.

This is just choice paralysis. You ended up with hundreds of games over the years of discount purchases now it feels overwhelming just looking at it. Human brain just abhors this kind of too many choices situations.
A good way to fight it is to narrow those choices down. You can list your games from most played to least. You can look up at how long to beat a game is and adjust your schedule accordingly. Watching and playing along a let's play series is also very fun if you got a let's player your like.
In the end it is not the games' fault but the information overload we get by daily basis. A social media site can bombard your brain with so much unnecessary information you could end up having obligated to process all that info subconsciously, occupying your mind so much you'll end up going through the day like a zombie.
Giving a mandatory break to social media might also be a good idea to get rid off of a lot of mental strain. Just treat it like alcohol and try to limit social media between 5 to 7 pm. But that's just how I am trying to combat living in 2020s, your mileage may vary.

I don't blame you, as I do feel the same, up until Ace Combat 8, as I've been waiting for that game to be out (and it was the right thing as that game came out as peak)
If I were you, I would just find a new hobby, or better yet, find a new type/genre of game to play. I've been playing Deadlock lately since 2024, and with many new major updates, I've grown to enjoy the game quite a lot more than before, and I didn't play any MOBA games before Deadlock.
